Bellular actually made a follow-up called "Addressing the elephant in the room", in which he failed to address the elephant in the room. What a shocker. If the first video made me angry, the follow-up bored me to tears. It was a painfully boring half an hour to sit through: rambly, meandering, lacking substance. About a third of it was him complaining about how bad the Rings of Power show was, as if that is relevant in any way. I'm glad I unsubscribed from him. He's just another Tim Pool or Yong Yea.

I feel that the worst part about journalism these days is that it feels like almost all of it is opinion peices. I am referring to journalism in all categories and fields. And if we do actually get something facts based, it ends up being almost propaganda because they are usually not impartial. Often, they are very biased, so the facts they don't agree with they won't put in the story. The news cycles these days sucks

This whole thing could end up being very interesting if it's a social experiment to see if utilizing Kotaku-style rage bait for engagement can be a net positive for a channel in spite of the backlash. That said, I feel like it's much more likely that he was "motivated" by his game's publisher or some other external source to try and shine a positive light on the absolute boil on the industry Kotaku and SBI (and others like them) have become.

While he defended a vision of the development studio that is not in the immediate maximization of profits but in the long term. I think we need to differentiate between an editorial (give your opinion without field research, interview, facts) and journalism. In a newspaper normally you have 1 editorial (or 2 if there is a guest) and everything else is journalistic articles. Interviews, film/book/video game reviews, field research.

You ever notice how all of the diehard anti-capitalists tend to be capitalists when it counts? Yeah, I noticed. They like to reap the benefits of it, but then blame capitalism when things don't go their way, or when they do something bad. Bellular can be mad, but Kotaku is in their situation because they weren't providing much if any value to anybody. Their reputation has been shit for years, which means that if they actually ever put out a decent article, few people would see it because the site reputation was so bad. Which means that revenue is low and because the staff need to get paid, the site would either need to correct itself to make more money, lay off workers to reduce how much needed to be paid, pay workers less/not at all, sell to somebody else, or shut down. If Bellular actually cared about Kotaku, the third and last options would be the worst. The second to last option just kicks the can down the road, and the second option sucks too. Really when you get down to it, the first option makes the most sense. Correction could go other ways, but while going to game guides is the most extreme, it could put the site in a much better position with gamers. Therefore if in the future, the site does put out more serious articles, they would be better off than they are now where few if anybody sees them. It's not a guarantee since so many people despite kotaku, so they have a lot of work to do if they want to amend their reputation in the eyes of gamers. But this should be far more desirable to Bellular over the other options. But I would not be surprised if the things said about him in the video and the comments were creating a conflict of interest. I also find it interesting that he wants to defend Kotaku but one of the things that has been really frustrating to gamers is that Kotaku and most of these other journalist outlets recently is how much they leave out of their articles. It's obvious they know what has really been going on, but they purposely leave out things like the SBI staff being racist/sexist, and trying to start a targeted harassment campaign. And just like them, Bellular himself is leaving out pretty much all of the important information for why Kotaku is in the situation they are in now. He acts like he just doesn't know, as if he is somebody on the outside looking in, but he should know better. The Journalism industry (not just for gaming) is rotten, and so incestuous it's practically got twelve toes. Bellular's lies of omission end up being quite representative of the industry at large. And it makes one wonder what Bellular was expecting. He wants people to trust Kotaku again, but in his own video defending them, he can't bring himself to tell the full truth. Which suggests he knows how inconvenient the truth would be in pleading his case.
