Nice, I've been planning my lift for a year. I have everything just need to find a location and build the lift itself. I had the same trolly as yours and I decided to use your last ones and actually just ordered them. Thanks 😊

I learned from Unistut that their trolleys are designed for overhead cable and tray hangers for cable management where adjustability is necessary but they are not designed for use in this way involving frequent up and down use under tension. The trolley you finally ended up with is Part # P2950 in case someone wants specifics. I cannot get Unistrut products here in Thailand so I need to use C-channel or some other profile or fabricated material.

It would be very helpful with a link to the wheels 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the vid. How much did you end up milling off the bottom of the trolley?

If you look at the heavy duty trolley upside down you can see inside the wheels between the center structure and the wheel is a spacer / bearing that is about 1/8 or 3/16 below the height of the center structure. I milled down to that but was probably a bit more than needed. Another option would be to grind some of the bolt head down and mill less off the trolley.

Yeah, I was wondering that from the 1st vid I seen using the unistrut system. I plan on using angle iron in the corners of the elevator shaft and roller blade wheels or something, 2 on each corner of the cage (1 in each axis X and Y) as I will not be limited to it being up against a wall on only 1 side. I should not have any load on the wheels juts to keep the cage from digging in the walls of the shaft and keep it centered.

Sounds like a solid design for sure. When you say each corner - are you planning on all four corners? If so then certainly don’t think load will be an issue. When building like mine on just two rails you do end up will load on the trolleys from the lever effect of weight on the platform pulling away from wall even though supported from winch vertically. Be curious to see your build as sounds promising for sure. Good luck!

@@Joemx82 yeah all 4 corners will have rails and rollers, winch will be mounted in the middle of the top of the rails with triple up lines on pulleys to the cage. on the downstairs side the elevator will be enclosed in a closet basically. ill for sure do a vid when its in construction and done. im welding up a 3/4" top 4X8 welding table now.

@@Texas_Radical I'd love to see how this worked for you. Can you send me a video or photos? I'm trying to use nylon wheels from heavy duty casters to quiet and smooth the ride.

@@kellyjosephcourtreporter8822 yeah when i get it done ill post vids. im really thinking rollerblade wheels. (there should be no load on the wheels, they will just act as a guide) the way im thinking about doing it is a L channel on each corner going up and down and a wheel on each side of each corner top and bottom with a adjuster to tighten it so there is no slack for the cage to bounce around in the shaft. then a small winch with a triple pulley on top and bottom to reduce the working load. I may also have to shim the L channel due to nothing is square in this house, right now I am insulating the garage and just finished drywall on the last room upstairs.

@@Texas_Radical I hope to see a video of your build. I have a similar plan in mind for my garage attic space. I have a stairwell leading up to the attic that I would like to convert into an elevator shaft, using the plans that you have in mind. I would try to engineer a motor and pulley system that attaches to all four corners of the elevator platform via cable to uniformly lift it. And I would have the whole lifting system held up by the 4 corner posts so that no weight bearing is placed on the walls or ceiling joists of my garage (basically a cage within a cage). I think the challenge I would have is deciding what size components I would need to safely lift 500 to 750 pounds (e.g. winch HP, cable and pulley sizes, bolts and screws, for example).

Those are them on Amazon but you can google 1 5/8 heavy duty trolly wheels and might find a better deal. I recall paying around that price though.
