Nice job! I found it easier to use barn door tracks and dollys. After a while I got tired of the cable making for a bumpy ride, so I cut it off and instead used a section of automotive tow strap. That makes the ride much smoother. Cheers, Thomas

Nice work. I'm planning a 6' wide by 5' deep lift with the carriage made from Unistrut and their fittings. I've got a 40 x 80 steel building and in the back I built a 12 x 40 x 10 high storage mezzanine. The frame of the structure is made of 8x8s so weight shouldn't be a problem. I'll look into the Zoro 20' strut especially since I have 18' walls. Thanks!

Your safety device is known by safety professionals as an SRL (Self-Retracting Lifeline). They come in varying lengths and are intended to pay out and retract the line as you move up and down at normal speed. When you attempt to pay out the line quickly (as would happen in a fall), the line locks up preventing the fall. The type you have has a shock-absorbing component installed at the hook end of the line. This is designed to tear out in response to a fall and lessen the arresting forces. You do not need this component as the SRL will lock up before a fall speed that would result in significant arresting force is generated. Additionally, the shock absorbing component adds an additional 3' of potential fall length as it deploys.

Nice work and i like the safety feature fall arrest but i think the fault arrest its meant to slow the fall meaning if its 3 feet or 5 feet you need to have a fall above that limit so i'm not sure if it help if the fail is below that distance of course the steel cable will be hard to fail so we neec more info from someone with more expertise in how the fall arrest works also does any one has built one with the cable on one corner i need to build one for a wheel chair lift with front and back clear for loading and unloading from about 4 or 5 feet high acces to a house

Good comments - my understanding from my research is that there are two types of fall arrests (I think it was A and B) where one catches slowly without a sudden jerk but it takes 3-5’ to catch. The other version, that I went with it, is relatively immediate but with a hard stop / jerk. I tested it by hand in that pulling slowly it releases but if you pull quick to mimic a fall it catches instantly - probably 6-13” or so from sudden pull

could use a rail for a pole barn door 12 lengths and quiet rubber wheels, with mounting brackets already attatched

Drop a link - be curious to check that out. The load on the wheels is not insignificant so would just want to be confident in wheel choice. I have an updated video with new wheels I used as these failed and I went with a much heavier duty version. They are relatively quiet and still going strong.

How far apart did you place the lag screws in the strut channel? Thanks

I did about every three feet and seems plenty. I have another video where I’ve upgraded the wheels - that was the only necessary revision I’ve had to make
