We built a loft/mezzanine for storage in part of our shop. When bringing stuff up to it, we started to find that many items were too bulky and/or heavy to safely carry up the steep folding stairs/ladder.
A while back we took a free old garage door opener from Craigslist, thinking that some future project would be able to use it. This was that project. The GDO didn't come with the control buttons or framing for hanging it or attaching to a door, so it is perfect for this project.
