Really good explanation of the sensors and how they're installed! I already figured out most of this while trying to troubleshoot my garage door opener having this problem last winter. But in my case, the orange and green lights on the two sensors were always lit. Apparently, it got cold enough to cause one of the sensors to malfunction anyway, because without touching anything, it just started working properly again a couple days later. Now, the problem re-appeared and again, the sensors appear to be working (can block one and watch the green light go out, etc.) -- but the opener thinks they're always reporting obstructions. I replaced one side and had the same issue, so will replace the other sensor tomorrow and hoping that fixes it. (At this point, if it doesn't? I'm thinking the opener itself has something wrong on its internal circuit board!)

Hi Aaron - Great tips on testing the sensors first - We just happened to have a non-direct lightning strike in our front yard which took out some electronics (i.e. the GFCI outlet for the door opener). Door now exhibiting bad sensor symptoms and codes - Both sensors have no lights - Will check replacements ahead of time and if not the problem (can return them) may be time for a control board - Anyway thanks for the tips !!

Finally after months I fixed my garage door with your help. Testing the sensors helped me figure out the problem. Thanks for the great video. I ordered the same sensors and for some reason the manufacturer color coated the wires backwards. I realised that when i was testing them out.

Dude, great heads up on plugging them in first before all the wiring. Sounds simple and a complete no brainer but I would have 100% ran all the wiring and has them all set up before I went to try them. Luckily I’m pretty sure this is my issue but either way would potentially have saved me a massive headache. Good lookin’ out.

Thanks for this video. You say that 5-6" is standard placement above the ground. I noticed that when my car wheels straddles the beam (beam is between front set of wheels and back set of wheels), there is a possibility that at that point, garage door could come down if my wife uses her remote in the other car (we share the same garage door). It is okay to mount the sensors higher, especially if there are no pets or children at the home? I'm more worried about accidental damage to the car.

Good job but I have a question , my sensors are not working and don’t have a light on them I checked the wire and used a tester for the electricity and there is no power. What would I do in this situation?

I did the replacement, but part of the garage door is rubbing against the back part of the clips. It looks like as the garage door goes down, it shifts slightly and the bolt that holds the cable at the bottom of the door rubs against the 2 flat part of the clips. The original mount was using one screw to hold the bracket to the rail. I can't mount it to the wall because the clip is not long enough. I have it temporarily on top of a can near the door. Any thoughts?

Aaron, I replaced both of my sensors today. Initial issue was receiving sensor would not light up. Now neither have a light on. Totally baffled by this. Can you lend some advice?

I bought new sensors, connected them directly to the back of the motor(both white wires to white input, and both black strip to black input), but neither sensor lights up. I have decided to send the sensors back in hopes that they are bad sensors, but what else could the issue be, bad control board? My garage door started malfunctioning after a lightning storm, the green receiving sensor went out, but the transmitting sensor stayed on. Seems weird that I didn't get any signal(light on) out of the new sensors by directly connecting them, even though my old transmitting sensor still lit up...

I just replaced my sensors. Lined then so that both lights are steady on. But the moment the door goes up, the green light starts flashing, and therefore won't go down. Any ideas?

Aaron, is the wiring different than connecting speaker wire? It normally would be white to white and black to black, but it almost looks like you went white to black and white to black. Did I see that correctly?

My Receiving Eye stopped working. It was a faulty capacitor in the C1 position on the motherboard (10V 470 uF). I soldered in a new capacitor and it worked great. Did that in Jan.2018, and the capacitor failed again today ☹️

Thanks for your video. I have my sensors lights solid but still Garage does not close. It rewinds back when tried to close. Also, when closing, the Chamberlain motor does not flash, it is solid . Tried to test the sensors, as the way you connected with system and it is closing properly. But when i placed them back in the Garage door positions, it rewinds while closing. Any suggestions please.

I ran my wires down behind the drywall into a outlet box then got a blank cover and put a 1/2 in hole in it then wired the sensors and stuffed the extra wire into the box. much cleaner looking but that is me.

One sensor has solid green light, but other sensor has no light at all. The sensors are properly aligned. I've traced wires back to motor and it appears to be no breaks. Do you think it's the sensor that isn't showing any light (orange color LED) the issue?

Tested sensors as you said & neither light turned on. The old set had only the amber light on & the green light no longer was working. Any suggestion?

Why are the sensor's mounted so low? The light will catch the tire/wheel, but does not sense the body overhangs on each end of the vehicle. Suv's and PU's have long overhangs.
