On July 2013 George Harvey and Garage Magazine invited ballet dancers Sergei Polunin and Kristina Shapran to create and unrehearsed improvisation to Satie's Gnossienne No1.

This is beautiful and you wouldnt know it was not choreographed or rehearsed. You dont see a lot of Shapran in it but thats not really something that is a problem as watching my Sergei is totally the best thing ever. One of the other posts some man made is saying she is far to thin or words to that effect, but she isn't a big girl anyway, and compared to some of the dancers you see are a whole lot more anorexic looking that her, plus, he wouldnt want to do wonderful lifts like that with anyone who is much bigger than that!!!

The rotation on one leg around his own axis (12:08) - the left leg must be parallel to the floor, but he has barely raised it!.. The music of Erik Satie on slow shots, made by modern digital camera, may do a graceful and lyrical dance from an elephant awkward movements!

I wonder when performing a party, where the costume of the hero demands a nude torso - Le Corsaire, Spartacus, Le Spectre de la Rose, etc., - how does Sergey come out on the stage with his tattoos? Does the theater allow him to decorate his body in such a way? The contracts do not prescribe such things?

torjimon Maybe he covers them with make-up? They all wear stage make-up anyway. But yeah, it'd be a lot of work for each performance...

xAnicsi It is impossible to hide by make-up. Especially in a couple dance - in the performance of the PA-Dede - when the female-partner touches him with her body and dress - does not make sense! Make-up will be erased! Still, it is a problem of the contract. Somehow it must be fixed in the contract.

Funny you say that, considering I work in dance and theatre with costumes and make-up :) There is special make-up you can use that is sweat and water resistant and does not come off easily, even upon touch, avoiding smudging and tarnishing the clothes. But hey, what do I know.

***** I make every effort "to focus on the performance". But there are scenery, costumes, set design - all these things are to create the overall harmony. And all kinds of disharmony - the tattoos - may prevent me from enjoing. In my opinion, it is very irresponsible of a dancer to paint himself like that.

I love him, the female dancer looked like a skeleton and gave me the creeps. Kept thinking her body mass wasn't large enough to sustain any type of performance or athletic activity.

Yes I do know that. Again, so what? What an artist does with his creation is up to the artist. It is judged by the watcher. It's limiting to impose opinions on art. You think it's ugly it's wrong etc. I am not saying YOU are wrong to have limits on your boundary of acceptable, but the thing you're seeing is edited by such impositions. He is a human who is creating a piece of art. End of story. Your view is obstructed. Your whole comment was not "this is art, this is creation, this is awesome". It was an opinion which blocked your vision of the whole. I don't see anything except movement, and beauty and I'm thinking about long after I stop watching. Try it, it's awesome.
