You wash you car every time you use your car?? Only 3 uses and you saved less time covering, plus you always have a bulky thing on the top of our car. I think a regular cover stored in the trunk (or roof) or a single triangular sheet than can be attached to the walls around the car that can also be stored in or near it (like waterproof box). Some builds are just quite cool and unique like this one.. I just wouldn't try to argue that they are better than other, simpler solutions. (other example being your small shelves)

Love the ingenuity, and I feel your pain as I park under a tree with many birds. My solution is similar to your bottle wash. I call it "bucket wash" and it takes me 10-12 minutes. Here is the procedure: 1) In kitchen sink, fill mop bucket of water with water and soap and large wash mitt or large sponge 2) fill mop second bucket with clean rinse water 3) Wash SUV starting from roof (gravity is your friend), then windows, then doors, then lower panels 4) Targetted rinse by dipping a large "Solo" drinking cup and spashing it on car in sections it in a horizontal mini dump from cup 5) dry with a large bath towel, flipping it after one side is soaked. Hang to dry. It's great in the winter to get off the road salt in Toronto in the winter (my outdoor tap is shut off in the winter to prevent freezing) bonus tip: I do it in the afternoon since its the warmest time of the day and water has time to melt and not freeze.

Does this really save time? It’s takes roughly 7 minutes of time every time you use your truck. It takes 20 minutes every time you wash your car. However, I assume you don’t wash your car after every time you use your truck. So let’s say you wash your truck once a week which for most people is the most they would wash their car, most do it a lot less = 20 minutes. But you use your truck 5 times a week = 7 minutes x 5 = 35 minutes at best… Still, fun video 😊

7 minutes each time, so 3 times storing and deploying and you could have just bottle washed it. Not sure on your frequency of bird droppings but I think the claim of time savings doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. Also doesn’t the chute collect droppings as well? Will you be factoring in cleaning it periodically as well? Great idea though! I love the concept and think it has merit. My guess is you’re getting less droppings in general, the reason being it is my hypothesis that birds drop on shiny surfaces not on dull ones unless they’re taking off in flight.

He lives in a pretty dry part of California, so they don't see a ton of rain. When it does rain though I can't imagine it's a breeze to pack up, not to mention the moisture being trapped in the roll. To be honest, this isn't a very elegant solution. It could get wet, plus it takes a significant amount of time to do up when you need to get somewhere quickly. It's better than nothing, but the best would be to build a small roof over the car attached to the hill by his house.

Man, I could care less if a bird shits on my car. It happens a lot in bird season in Southern Ontario. There is always a rainstorm coming within some days to wash it off. And that chute looks like it will be a problem with repeated use with dirt and grime and it not wanting to roll up on that spindle correctly anymore after it stretches, shrinks, expands etc.. And what if it does rain while tarp is on and then you need to roll it up? Is it prudent to roll it up when wet? Anyway, those are my thoughts. Another great video Van!

Also, with very few exceptions, I never lock my car doors! (f'n tired of replacing windows for nothing) If you have anything of value and you need 10 minuets of duck and cover, just stick it in an old McDonalds bag... there should be many to choose from. Dont spot wash bird shit. If you do inly use gentle water flow from a hose and not a nozzle. Rubbing bird shit in to your paint will cause big damage fast
