JDM B20B Install Part 2 - 1990 Civic DX EF Hatchback

Here it is! Finished up completely and ready to rock and roll!! It was a major PITA but I have finished it and can drive the hell out of it now!
Jdm Alliance out of Houston, Texas sent me another longblock free of charge. I changed the valve steam seals and swapped that head to the block that was already in my car. I bought a head gasket set off of eBay for $40 and so far I haven't had any problems with it. I did however purchase some ARP head studs in case the gasket fails and I need to replace it. Those head studs are re-usable and the best you can get.
I rolled the fenders and had to change my old leaking gas tank and wanted to include a little bit of footage of that in the video.
The car feels fantastic! It is very strong and louder than my old tired b18a. It doesn't burn any oil and doesn't lip a drop of anything. I've had great luck so far and even beat the hell out of it last weekend at the track! I'm loving it and I'm hoping it lasts for a while!

I notice you collect all model of EF. They look really clean I admire them all. I have civic wagon, crx for now and hoping to get ef hatch as well. That's why I can relate to you. Your video is awesome. Thanks for posting coz I really enjoy watching them.

I really like how you hit on the key things to look out for in your vids. Like fuel psi and running lean along with pointing out that the parts are matched between b20 and b18. If these videos had been around back in 2000 when i did my first swap I wouldn't have spent 3 months trying to find out which parts worked best and banging my head against a wall. Your vids rock man keep it up.

Your video transitions and fades with music are great, can't wait for more videos. All your music picks were on point as well. Must feel great to do all that work and turn the key and starts on the first try lol. That NEVER happened with my brothers on the 68 Chevelle.

Thank you for replying Jon I appreciate it. My buddy and I are debating on using the existing distributor from stock b20 and use converting harness to odb0. I'm not if not so sure of that idea.He swap my friend b20 on his eg hatch and that what he use. My thoughts wereEvery part must come from 90-91 integra donor (ecu, distributor, injectors etc..) This b20 is a replacement from a b16 crx. Thank you!

Noel Nemedez It'll be easier if you do use all the parts from a 90-91 Integra. You can try to wire up that distributor as it might work and since you already have it.

I can't wait to see bro. By the way what type of axle did you use on your b20? I might change my whole setup on my crx. When I have my b16 there It has a poor breaking distance. I literally have to pump the the brake pedal. I believed it's 90-93 integra. I might need to update my master Cylinder to ex like yours. There's big difference after comparison. Thanks!

Noel Nemedez I'm using a hybrid setup because it came that way. I use a 90-93 DA passenger axle, and I'm using a 94-01 Integra intermediate shaft which is a male fitting and that required me to use a 94-01 Integra driver side axle. It sounds like you may need to pay some attention to your brake setup. It's you've already changed pads/rotors and the master cylinder isn't leaking you may have a booster vacuum leak.

I stumble into your video and I enjoy them all coz it's very in portative Convince me to purchase my 1st b20b which I will slap onto my 90 crx. I have question on the pulley. Can I use b16 pulley? Would it work? I replace the timing belt since the motor is out. I'm confuse on which odb on year of acura integra. From my understanding90-91 is odb0 and 92-93 is odb1 need your thoughts on thatPlease. It has been a while since I've been to this game. Thank you!

I do not remember if it fits, but if it does then you can. I'm almost positive that it fits perfectly fine though. Youll need to get appropriate sized belt though. Youre correct on the OBD years.

Not too hard. You'll need the vtec conversion kit which feeds the oil to the head. If you want to be able to rev up to 8000 then you'll need to do some work to your block also, but you can leave it alone. My friend with the y49 Crx has a b20v and he has a stock block. He only takes it up to 7400 rpms though.

You will need the 90-93 Integra axles when doing a B series swap into an EF. ABS or NON-ABS, it doesn't matter, both will work.

jon if u don't mind me asking, what size wheels and tires do u run on your black ef track car, I want to run 205/50/15 on my ef hatch but I can't decide whether to go 15x7 or 15x8, great video btw thanks?

You're spot on, 205/50 on a 15x7 +35 offset. I rolled all of the fenders and have no issues rubbing even when going full speed into turns! The 15x8 will be a more difficult fit but can also be done.

When getting an ls manifold, which one do i get? will the sensors from the jdm b20b high rise intake manifold work on the ls mani, or am i better off getting a 90-93 ls manifold with all the sensors, etc. attached?

+Robert Schwartz All sensor are interchangeable between all manifolds. Yo pick whichever manifold you want.

Not anytime soon. I'd like to try and get 150-160 HP out of this engine before going boost. If I go boost it will automatically put me into Class B and I'm still trying to be a great driver in Class A with the lower HP. Plans of converting to OBD1, nicer header, some mild cams, and tuning and hoping to achieve that goal. We'll see how that goes! I just finished a Skunk2 Intake Manifold and Throttle Body the other day, I'm hoping that gets me a couple extra ponies!

I just got a new job at honda and I want to save up and get a nice car but I'm so stuck between getting another drift car or a ef sedan then b20b swapping it and putting some nice suspension under it wich would honestly be alot cheaper than a drift car.

It'll be a lot of fun still and economical to drive. And working at Honda!?! You'll have access to repairs/parts/service/advice right at your fingertips!

Just subscribed to your channel, AWESOME CONTENT!! I recently got an ef with a d15b v tech on it, which I need to put new rings and pistons on it cause its a little worn out. Since I saw this video, I'm now thinking of doing a b20 swap cause the parts for the d15b are kind of hard to find. Is this going to be to much trouble to do? I'm just wondering what I would need to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! If you have turned a decent amount of wrenches you should be ok. If you've only changed oil and wheels, it will be a lot more difficult.

My hatch is still obd0. The engine was a 99 spec therefore it was an obd2b but I am using all the 90-91 integra parts and ecu to keep it obd0.

Couple questions. You said you used an LS ecu, is that the pr4 from the 90-91 integra? Also what Distributor did you use, also from an integra or can you use the distributor from a CRX SI?

Hey Jon hate to Bug you again man, but i got another little question I Need help with from 1 B20B EF swap to Another.... You're running the Integra LS P75 ITM am I correct? That's what's I got setup up for my swap. My question is what throttle cable and bracket did you end up using? Stock Ef cable with special bracket or Integra Cable with the OEM P75 bracket? Im just having a hard time pin pointing the information. Thanks in advance man I appreciate your help immensely.

You'll use the harness that is already in your Si. You may have to add some sensors depending on what OBD you are going to be running. With the Y8 what OBD and ecu are you using?

Youve got a b20b non'vtec engine with a vtec valve cover? Do you just have it on because you like it or is there performance reasons behind it?

It's a B20B valve cover. The credit valve cover doesn't fit a non-vtec head and vice versa.

i know this is a old video but what mounts did you use for the swap i just bought a b20 swapped crx and the engine vibrates like crazy its annoying as hell but the thing is that when i push the clutch in it goes away the previous owner said that he used some ebay swap mounts but damn thats rough vibration any thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful

+ronnie cason you might have a really hard urethane in those mounts. I'm using Innovative 60a street mounts and it doesn't vibrate crazy at all. It's definitely more stiff but doesn't rattle the dash or anything. I have 3 sets of Hasport in my other cars and those are perfect too. 2 are B16's and one is a stock D15 in my wagon. All feel comfy enough for daily usage.

It doesn't matter. You can use the firewall one. You'll have to if your TB doesn't have it on there.

Nothing. Just bolted them up together. Most test pipes have the correct flange in them already.

+MatterOfPhysix EF mounts, DA rear T bracket, DA axles, DA cut and welded shift linkage or already made EF B swap linkage, ECU depending on OBD, Distributor depending on OBD, and either DA or DC intake manifold and throttle body.

No, it bolts in like stock. It can rub the hood in some cases though.

I had it in front of the radiator and reversed the pins on the plug to have it push instead of pull.

No, just an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Skunk2 half size. It uses the the 2 left oem mounting points. I've had issues where it doesn't clear the hood webbing properly and had to cut a little bit of it out so the radiator cap wasn't rubbing the hood. My friend had the same issue with the same radiator in his Crx. Not sure if this is a problem with the radiator all together.

+DjReckz With the Eg or Ek radiator in an EF I understand the fitment issue, but this skunk2 is made for the EF chassis so it "should" fit with no clearance issues, but it still did not clear the hood complete. 😞

+joethecollector It is the proper place to jack your car up. There is an added piece of metal on the subframe and the notch sticks down also. On many newer cars, there will be a small arrow in the plastic cover pointing you to that spot. And thanks man, still waiting to see some vids of your ride!

The map sensor wiring doesn't change. Your original map sensor on the firewall works. Or if you have a throttle body mounted one you can just plug thst in also.

Vin plate? Above the headlight? US models only have the VIN etched onto the firewall, and the 2 plaques, one on the dash, and the other on the driver door sill.

Eli Alvarado Do you have enough gas? Possible fuel pump failing, have you checked fuel pressure? Or if there is at least a steady stream shooting out of the FPR when the key is turned to the 2nd position and the fuel pump primes?

i have my distributor on my b20b fully retarded and cannot get anymore timing out of it without it gagging out. My question is even after I manually found TDC with a straw and 19m. and then Re-installed the distributor, still cannot get anymore timing. why is this?

the cams both line to UP, although the cam furthest from firewall is a tooth or so off. i ordered this motor and did not have the timing belt off at all..

That's a good question. I have never encountered this on my b18a or b20b in this car. Maybe the timing gun you are using is defective? I'm using the timing gun from harbor freight which also has the dial on the end of it to make sure you are setting to spec.

The knock sensor detects combustion chamber predetonation (or knock). You will not use it if running obd0 or using any of the LS ecu's from 90-01. If running a vtec head on a b20, then you will need it in there. On the b20's, it's an easy way to tell if the b20 is a high compression engine.

+Yo BrO yes, but depending on the ecu and obd you decide to use you may need some wiring harness adapters. It's a high comp b20.
