8 жыл бұрын

I wanted to document the install of my high compression b20b (00 spec p75 head) into my 90 civic hatchback. Everything went very smoothly and there are only a few differences that I filmed. I could not find any info online about the oil pumps being the same but they are identical.
I bought the engine from JDM Alliance in Houston, TX. I paid $695 shipped and that included the $50 residential lift gate charge. Upon completion of the video I am waiting for the company to contact me again. The info I provided has been sent to the claims department and I'm hoping they take care of me without me having to further escalate the issue. I will make a 2nd part to this video once I have completed the install and have this car completely running.

+Jon Widmer yeah, I haven't been able to sell it yet, which worked out in this case as a back up. but I need to so I can have some cash to register the civic and have some extra cash and fix the studs. the previous owner had aluminum lug nuts and he stripped almost every stud on the front 2 wheels. I already upgraded the rotors, which is how I discovered the issues.

@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 6 жыл бұрын
It should connect on top of the intake manifold usually on the 2 cylinder runner, and that wiring goes to the same cluster of wiring where the alternator wires are. You should be able to pull off all of the wiring loom and you may see the cut wires there if that's what happened to them.

Wow that really sucks on 1st start! So in retrospect- Do you think it would have helped to rotate the assembly by hand a few cranks before you started it to know if something was off? Or do you think a visual inspection of the valve train before 1st start would have spotted it?
@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 8 жыл бұрын
It was a pain!! I've done many timing belts in the past and that seemed to be enough of rotating the valve train on this engine, unfortunately I did not visually inspect each valve to make sure they were opening/closing. It seemed to be fine when I was hand cranking it but when running it obviously had a problem. Lesson learned, and hopefully it helps others. I was sent an additional motor free of charge and I inspected each and every valve to make sure they opened/closed properly before pulling the head and installing that head on my old block. I changed the valve stem seals too so that was obvious since I had to work around all 16 valves. But never again on any motor will I not inspect all of the valves. It was a first time I've had a seized/stuck valve and hopefully the last!!

@GarageBuiltHondas
@GarageBuiltHondas 8 жыл бұрын
+Alejandro Marquez Not really, it's a pretty straightforward swap. You'll need to use the post mount off of your b18. The b20 one is different. The DA mount doesn't even fit so you'll figure that out easily when you get there. Everything else will bolt up. You'll probably need to swap the thermostat housing also like I did. I got my mounts used from honda-tech. Only paid $60 shipped. You can buy them brand new for $170. I'm using the Innovative Steel EF B swap mounts.

The motor I want to get is an auto b18b1 other than axles,cable transmission, and clutch/flywheel and flywheel bolts what else would I need to convert it to manual? I see that in your video you have a b20 which comes auto, so I wanted to see what steps you took for your swap, thank you and sorry if this is a noob question.

B20 comes manual too, theres no conversion as long as you have a manual transmission. Sounds like you have all the parts needed except maybe a starter, intermediate shaft, and mounts.

+Nathan Buttle Ok, just making sure you're in the US, otherwise I'm not really sure where other countries get their motors. Is $2000 within your budget? You can find a complete JDM b16a for around that much shipped from a lot of importers in the US. And that will include pretty much everything except for motor mounts. You will need some set of swap mounts and the least inexpensive are the Innovative Steel EF B cable mounts.

Because cleaner parts don't mean better. Mine were bought brand new less than a couple years ago when I did this swap over. I'm not trusting a crusty 15 year old timing belt or the related timing parts (tensioner/h2o pump/oil pump).

No prob! No harness, you'll use the existing harness from your car, then depending on which obd you go, you'll need a corresponding Ecu (obd1, obd2a, or obd2b) Integra LS ECU. Your car is already obd2a so that would probably be the easiest route. Then you can use a subharness to connect the Ecu to your car wiring harness and a distributor one also if needed. I believe all of the distributor harness are similar for obd 1 & 2 but cannot remember 100%.

To be fair though, I’ve definitely made that mistake before and not seen a problem. Just kind of depends on the situation.
