In today's video we get shot at by subsonic rounds to see what it sounds like. We used a high fidelity mic and recorder to capture the audio perfectly for you :)

My father was on a hill top in Vietnam in 68-69. He said they heard this incredible sound right over their heads. Come to find out the Battleship New Jersey was firing those 16 inch shells at something and the shells were going about 50 foot over the top of the hill or mountain they were on. I couldn’t imagine what that was like.

One of my favorite discoveries when I started shooting suppressed .22 a lot was learning that the sound of a real-life ricochet is EXTREMELY similar to the classic sound heard in many Hollywood westerns and videogames. That "peh-twooooon" noise is basically real, though normally you probably wouldn't hear it over the muzzle report (as the shooter). Also, just discovering how loud bullet impacts are against even soft stuff like dirt was fun. Most trees result in extremely loud impacts when shot suppressed.
@trainknut
@trainknut 7 ай бұрын
@@1lovesoni A lot of old stock footage was just recorded straight from the real life thing - most of the "train sounds" stock footage for example is just some guy standing next to a train track with a microphone. Same thing with ricochets/bullet impacts/gunshots... they pretty much did well, this, they just sent a guy out there with a microphone to record them shooting real guns. It was only really in the 80s and 90s when they started synthesizing and creating artificial sounds in studios, or re-using old stock footage from completely different guns(using a 357 magnum recording for an M16 for example) that you got these hilariously out of place sounding guns in entertainment. It wouldn't be until the late 2000s that Hollywood and the games industry as a whole would start to shift back to recording real life audio for their sound tracks, prior to around 2008, movies that used real sounds were kind of the exception, and videogames with real sounds basically just, didn't exist... With the exception of Brothers in Arms and maybe a few of the Call of Duty games.(that I know of)

I know this is a very specific bias, but hearing someone say "repeat" on the radio sets my teeth on edge and heightens my anxiety. I am an artilleryman. In artillery, the word "repeat" means "whatever you just shot, shoot the exact same thing again without checking for safety or verification." If we did not copy what someone said, we always always use "say again." It is so ingrained into us that we say it in face-to-face conversations and when dealing with civilians.

The fact that subs, unsuppressed and you hear the muzzle report before the bullet passing by, and how noticeable the delay between muzzle report and bullet passing by changed with distance, much more noticable than the delay between hearing a supersonic bullet passing by and then the muzzle report changing over such relatively short distances in range. All around this video was one of your best, informative, and very entertaining.

It was shotgun deer season, and "Hunters" in an adjacent field were lobbing slugs at deer on a hilltop. The farm was a couple hundred yards beyond that hilltop. Piss your pants scary. Had a very similar experience my first time deer hunting. My brother shot a doe and the slug hit the tree I was standing at about a foot above my head. I had wood splinters in my hair. Remington copper solids kinda have a sound similar to a cat purring as they fly toward you. I'm assuming it was from the slug tumbling after impact and probably smacking into some twigs coming through the woods.

That face Mike makes with the unsuppressed 45 as he gets lower reminds me of the first time I got to go with jtac’s on the impact area while they were working with A-10’s. Feeling that 30mm impacting close by was one of the most badass things I got to take part in. Thanks for making these videos, and answering every question my inner child ever had about shit exactly like this.

I am an Iraqi War vet. I have watched several AK rounds whizz by my eyes directly! Honestly, every hair stood up on my body as I pushed the pedal of my very slow 5Ton through the floor. Just watching the air turbulence and the sound pass by my eyes by a just a few inches, still fills my thoughts while watching this. In war you know the sound. Just being in the streets of America and hearing these sounds would make you pause, trying to figure it out! Great episode! Things everyone should know so you can react faster!

So if I understand you correctly, you didn't see the round but rather the turbulence left behind? I realize wt the point you're not looking at your watch and maybe your perception of time could change, but about how long would that turbulence hang in the air. Just curious as a former LEO involved in a few close calls myself. And thank you for your service the this nation, sir.

@@bradparker9664 yes Sir! Time does slow down!!! I was also hit with several IED’s and the same thing happened. Time distorted! I did not see the rounds, but it was like you see a military jet cross in front of you. It leaves the same distorted trail as a bullet if the plane is just crossing the speed of sound! That’s the best I can describe it???

@@rajgill7576agreed but also to op....tell me you've never actually used a 2A item IRL without actually saying it! A .22 is tinnitus in the flesh! It's ok, just go buy some pellet plinker's and you'll be so good at handling recoil, a real 2a item will be a total breeze if you can get the "artillery hold" down on a pellet plinker! Plus, they don't look like copies of firearms, like airsoft.

Depends on what purpose you’re planning on using your rifle for. If it’s a general fighting rifle, stick to your intermediate cartridges (5.56,.300BLK,7.62x39). They make for lighter rifles with more ammo capacity. I wouldn’t really recommend getting into a DMR build as a general purpose rifle. They’re big and pretty unwieldy, not lending themselves well to shorter combat ranges. As for 6.5 creedmore… it’s a great target round, but if you shoot anything within 500 ft, it’s going right through. Its excellent capabilities and range are often also it’s downfall. That being said, it’s your money, but what makes you happy, and train train train.
