This song was also released by Patti Smith, so this would be a cover of that song if I have my sequence correct. It was also done by Bruce Springsteen.

This was originally an unfinished song by Bruce Springsteen that was given to Patti Smith who finished it and it was her biggest hit (#13). They share songwriting credits. This version was good and pretty much a straight cover I feel. Bruce also have the long guitar solo when he plays it live, nowadays it's Nils Lofgren who does it and I prefer that a little more since I feel more is happening. You are likely to hear it when you see Bruce yourself. U2, Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith performed it together at the 25th anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Happy New Year!

I actually prefer this version to the versions by Bruce and Patti, but that's just personal taste, of course. Bruce's live version received a slightly higher score last year, let's see if Patti's version also makes it onto here...

Good job as always. I still like the Patti Smith version better but that could be because I heard it a lot more. Happy New Year my man. You became my favorite reactor when you did "Ghost Love Score " and you remain so today.

I actually didn't consider the length of that solo until you mentioned it. 🙂I think it could've been a bit shorter, but I also think it's fine as it is; at least to me, it doesn't feel like 90 seconds. Speaking of feel, I think the double-time switch helps, adding a bit more intensity. I also like that there's a solid ending instead of a fade-out (not sure what the original does).

Please have a listen to a 3 piece Aussie Band... COG, Aussie prog rock. (Aussie Tool) They are awesome live, the sound from a 3 piece is incredible. They did a cover of a 90 dance track from leftfield and Johnny rotten.. "Open Up" But any of their songs are pretty awesome, "Bird of Feather" "No other way" "Run" "My Enemy" "What if" then tracks from their EP are amazing. :"1011010' "Moshiach" Watch some of their live concerts and see what a 3 piece outfit can belt out....

Yeah, you’re pro’ly feeling from the comments the superlong solo was them amping/modernizing the original. That one -spoiler alert- Also great, chooses to fade out repeating the chorus. Here, the guitar solo was added. The piano reprise was added. And much better production. One of my fave covers in the last 10ish years. Original was iconic, this was a great homage. Love them… at the same time , both kind of belong in that comfortable 7 range. Which makes it still great.
