Tracy, your gardens are absolutely stunning. You are such a pro at maintaining hydrangeas, roses and so many perennials and annuals. I have learned so much from you. I recently bought a David Austin climbing rose named Bathsheba. Beautiful apricot color with a petal count of 170! I am going to re-watch your "How to care for roses and clematis video for your expert tips. Thank you for being such an inspiration...

Thank you ADK! We got rain but it was not enough to wet the mulch. 🌧 We need more rain….our grass is definitely “burning” from all the early heat/sun…roses and clematis are most beautiful at this time of the year…I wished I had more space for more. Happy gardening 💚🙏💚

Tracy, if my gardens were as gorgeous as yours are, I'd spend most of my time outside among the flowers, without actually living out there... lol! I'm drawn to the cool soft colors, pinks, purples, whites, apricot, soft yellows, and all shades of green. Actually, I don't think there is a bad or ugly color in the garden. Your DA rose looks more like Desdemona or Windermere. I couldn't find Rose Marie on their website. Your Sarah Elizabeth clematis is absolutely beautiful! Isn't running out to save plants in the middle of a storm the mark of a gardener? 😅 Had to get out to stake a newly planted tree in the middle of a windstorm + icy rain a few months ago. I read that some swaying is good for young trees but the trunk was near parallel to the ground. Despite staking we still needed to replant it afterwards because it was leaning so far. Think it was 60-70km/hr wind at the time. The neighbour's semi-mature tree is now leaning halfway over the sidewalk. Thinking it might snap in the winter once we get a big load of snow. Hope no one will get hurt ☹️ On a more cheery note, thanks for another beautiful video Tracy! ❤️
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I was worried that day watching the garden from the house. I was literally watching the vines swaying in the wind and telling myself to get the garden clips ready if things get worse. 🤣 One of our Limelight on the east side of the back garden almost got uprooted too! It is now leaning away from the fence. I’m afraid of disturbing the roots as it is about to bloom…will have to wait until next spring to anchor it back in place. Some of our neighbours were not so lucky and had trees and/or branches falling down on their car. Happy gardening

Beautiful gardens. Thank you for the full view of your garden. It is so helpful to get an idea of the overall garden design. I just purchased 9 BoBo hydrangeas and last year I added a quick fire. I am trying to train it into a standard but so hard to trim off flowers blooming on the sides. Also added a Pinky winky in a container. I have so many Limelights and they bloom amazing in our heat but so excited to add other varieties. I am also trying to root some cuttings. I have some in garden soil mixed with perlite and some just perlite. I hope at least one or two take off.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Garden soil with perlite or sand is most suitable to root hydrangea cuttings…you will definitely get 100% success. Rooting them in garden soil works but not as close to the soil perlite mixture. Your collection of hydrangeas is great. Pinky Winky is one I do not have and love as well. Happy gardening 💚🙏💚

Your garden is lush and gorgeous! Like you I keep my patio furniture until it's no longer functional! I don't need the next new thing to be happy. I still have my teak furniture from my Mom that had it for probably 12 years, herself! I'll continue using and taking care of it until there's no use anymore. Love the roses but cannot bring myself to pay for David Austin roses! I do however have a couple of old David Austin's that are no longer under patent! I've found so many beautiful roses that way, so much cheaper. I'm just diving into heirloom and antique roses due to that. You certainly have a very "green thumb"! Thank you

Thank you 🙏…DA roses are very pricey and always sell out. Since the pandemics, they have gotten more popular and so one rarely sees DA roses on the shelf…nurseries says that you can only get them by special order. I sometimes see other roses go on sale but never DA roses. I agree with the outdoor furniture - we will definitely continue to use them until they break apart. Thank you again & Happy gardening 💚🙏💚

Good morning Tracy! I’m watching and learning more every time! I can’t believe how lush and beautiful your gardens are! Again, stunning!! Inspirational to say the least! You mention the soil in one chat. Btw I have been gardening/learning for 30+ years but never learnt as much as I have on utube and someone like you!! So thank u thank u thank u!! Could you do a video on soil preparation or improving? I’ve added sheep manure every year and triple mix this year (& other years) but feeling like the soil is lacking but don’t know what? And mulch too at times. I have hot areas that are “dry dirt” mainly under trees! Suggestions? And bugs are happier then ever but learning from you on preventative measures. Thanks so much.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bobbie, I too have problems with soils being suitable for the pests….😊. I planted an English daisy, a perennial lobelia and a few other plants that were eaten by the pests in the soil. If you have been watching some of the other videos you may know that I’m most fond of using the least fertilizer in the garden as possible. I know that roses and clematis (especially roses) tend to do better with a lot of food and/or fertilizers so I don’t have too many choices other than giving them rose food. I know while growing up my parents usually give their roses a lot of liquids that they saved aside after cleaning fish and stuff like that to their roses and thus they didn’t need to feed their roses with fertilizers. This sounds good but is not practical for me so I think feeding rose food to them is most suitable for my life style. I’m so flattered by a seasonal gardener like yourself…when you say you learned for me. 💚💚💚 Thank you so much Bobbie! 🙏 I usually save aside used coffee grounds and give to my plants…which serves as a source of nitrogen. I’m a coffee and tea drinker and saving so this makes perfect sense for me. Every 2-3 years I add about 2-3” of leaf compost on top in the spring. That is pretty much everything that I do for the garden. Hope that helps. Happy gardening Bobbie! 💚🙏💚

Everything looks so beautiful Tracy! I love the onxy and pearls penstamon. I haven't been able to find it in my local nurseries yet, but I do have some of the midnight masquerade, that has similar dark foliage, but different color blooms. I also love the quick fire hydrangea. I have one and it grows quickly! Yay for the return of that DA rose. I lost a couple this year. I've decided to stop replacing roses after this year (at least I'll try lol) I have a terrible time keeping them happy. I also have a hard time with clamatis. They always seem to get that wilt in my garden. Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden with us. P.S. I also can't stop growing allysum from seed! So easy and they are so pretty!!

Thank you 🙏 so much! DA roses are my most favorite and are very popular in our area. They usually sell out and must be ordered directly from the nursery in autumn. I was thinking that if they don’t survive I may never be able to get my hands on one…unless I order directly from DA website. I did a video on what I use to reduce the chance of fungus killing the clematis vines. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbaDi7ecxpbVfZ8.html Hopefully you can find the product and give it a try on your clematis. Happy gardening!

We definitely had a very strange year so far…extreme cold/heat/snow….so sorry to hear you’ve lost some roses. Perhaps, you can try to plant them a few inches deeper than in the can and cover the base with with 4-6” plants f mulch or compost before the 1st frost…that was what I always did in my previous garden when I had roses that were not as hardy.

Thank you Iris RR! I started the garden back in fall of 2016. The home was a new built in a new subdivision so we practically started with builder’s “top soil”. How did you get rid of the Japanese 🪲 beetles that was consuming your roses? Can you make a video on how to get insects under control on roses thank you. Your garden is intoxicating with beauty!

Just absolutely gorgeous 😍 I really enjoy watching all that you share! Do you mind if I ask how many feet/(meters?) of planting space you have between your fence and your patio edge in your backyard garden? Everything is so wonderfully layered. Nothing looks too crowded out. It is just perfect. Thank you for your channel ❤️

Hi Tracey, It is about 5+ ft…but I think you need at least 6ft for better airflow. Happy gardening 💚🙏💚

Tracy, your yards are the most beautiful ones in Ontario, you are amazing gardener👍👍👍. I am also a fan of DA roses😍. Lastly, may I ask what is your recommendation of fertilizer for Bobo hydrangeas? Thanks again for your excellent video. Always love to see your garden.

Hi Elaine, Bobo hydrangeas don’t need fertilizers. All you need is a cup or two of leaf compost or composted manure every spring or so. Happy gardening Elaine. 💚🙏💚

Tracy your garden is beautiful. Responding late, but hoping if you see this and know the answer, you might be able to respond. I'm in N. CA, zone 9B. I can't grow things that require a hard frost (like peonies unfortunately) and always thought that was what set me apart from other zones perhaps.I have many hydrangeas and they do well. I just ordered the Limelight prime (large variety) and didnt realize it is zones 3-8. Do you know why? The zones still confuse me. Im in a coastal environment so we get cooler temps in the summer as well as fog. Yet inland 40 miles where it can be 100 during the summer is also zone 9B I believe. Anyway, I'll plant this and hope for the best, but just really curious why this hydrangea stopped at zone 8 (vs. 9). Any ideas? PS your garden furniture is perfect and love that hammock!

Hello there, The high intense heat in zones 8+ can can cause damage, poor health/growth to the plant and the plant may respond by not blooming as well. Since your climate is “cooler” you may get away with planting in your zone. Because your season is longer and the sun is more direct (and intense), I recommend you planting it in an area that gets only morning sun when the heat is not as intense…and don’t forget to water slow and deep to keep it happy. Happy gardening!

Everything is looking so beautiful. I put some sky scraper lilies in my garden this yr but a few of them have come up but no heads on them. Do you think I should pull them out this autumn and plant new ones.

No, they will bloom next year. The plants will mature and feed the bulbs to store nutrients for blooms next season. Hope that helps. Thanks 🙏 Brooke.

Love your garden!! I just planted my little quick fire about a month ago but there are blooms forming. I wonder why

Do you mean “no” blooms? There are a few reasons: 1) not getting enough sun…zones 6-8 you can get away with less sun but the blooms may be delayed 2) the plant was over fertilized; hydrangeas are not heavy feeders like roses and clematis; they tend to need very little food; you should feed hydrangeas by adding 1-2 cups of compost per plant in spring. If you have poor soil, you can add some fertilizer but I would add 1/2 of the recommended amount - less is always more 3) the plant buds may have been eaten by deers or 🐇. 4) the blooms may be delayed as the plant is trying to get rooted in. Hope this helps to eliminate possible reasons.

Hi,minimum I can say love your garden ❤ . I have a question if you would like to answer I love roses but for last two years bcz of back problem I can't take care of my flower beds can I put river rocks in the flower beds or no?
@TracysHomeGarden

Yes, river rocks will do. Some people put garden fabric underneath but I find that the fabric makes it more difficult for us to pull the weeds out. 💚

Edmonton - you may be able to plant them in containers and winterize them in an unheated garage. They may not do well in ground. Hopefully you can find a way to enjoy roses. 🤞🤞🤞

Hi Tracy, how do you water your plants do you have drip irrigation or do you hand water certain plants. The plants leafs look healthy and green. How often do you water your plants during the hot summer. Thank you.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kaido, During the hottest days of summer, I hand water the plants every 2-3 days….usually in the morning. I water each plant deep - to make sure they are hydrated. Drip systems don’t work well for us due to the deep thaw/freeze in our garden zone. In our previous garden, we had a drip system, and we set up two 2 gal/hr emitters per mature hydrangea and set it for 20-30 mins and run it twice-three times a week during the hottest part of summer. Our spring and fall are usually wet and mild so we usually run it once a week or none (depending on how much rain we get). Hope that helps.

Do you have any pollinators up there in Toronto? Down here in Windsor not one butterfly or bee, it’s very strange!

We have bees 🐝…but you are right about butterflies 🦋…not sure if I have seen any this season yet. We have weigelia, salvia, Penstemon…they all help to attract pollinators. Hope you can plant more of them to attract pollinators.
