I was taught by my grandpa that you plant what you need, plant to feed the animals and nature and if you want to be blessed with a good crop, plant so you can bless others and you will be blessed. It has always worked out to be true.

For the last 2+ years, I've had a HUGE problem with pickleworms, so much so that out of over 100 squash plants year before last, I managed to get only about 10 quarts of squash in the freezer, only a handful of cukes, and precisely ONE Charentais cantaloupe. THIS YEAR, I rigged up a trellis/cover system for the cukes and cantaloupe and will cover them up at night when the pickleworm moth is active...cover just before dusk, uncover at sunrise. THIS IS WAR! :)

A handheld bug zapper actually works quite well on flying insect populations, even outdoors, if you can spend some time hunting every day (night). It helps reduce the numbers.

Danny, I so enjoy watching our channel the last month. My friend and I enjoy gardening. She has a horticcultre degree but my garden always produced so much more. One day she just could not stand it and asked the question, "Why and How?" Then I was free to share my faith with her. For I went to a christian conference over 20 years ago and heard a lady share with the women how she had lost over 100 pounds by offering a portion of her food to the Lord as a tithe or gift. I decided to offer the first of my harvest to a single mom, widow, or the elderly in my neighborhood as a rememberance to the Lord who had blessed my efforts. So I plant expecting to share with family neighbors, chickens, bugs, birds, bees and am constantly blessed with a large harvest garden in my back city yard. May the Lord bless you and wanda as you bless others. GT in South Louisiana.

What a wonderful reminder. We often get lost in the need to be self-sufficient and focus on the self and forget to also care for our neighbors and be stewards of the earth as God made and call us to be. My uncle in California cooks food from his small garden to share with the homeless. Hearing your story and his made me add another goal to help others, so thank you! May God bless you with a bountiful harvest!

Thank you so much Danny and Wanda for sharing your journey. Me and my husband have been married for 25 years and have loved gardening together and canning. God has really pressed hard on me the past 3 years to up our game. Ordered a nice greenhouse a few weeks ago so we could extend our growing season. Arrival scheduled for today! Much prayers for you and your wife, and everyone who is doing there best in this world. Feeling encouraged in eastern Kentucky.

Folks here in Idaho don't understand about yellow squash. I wasn't able to garden last year so thought I would get my squash at farmers market. They were the size of bats! Finally one lady said she would pick e "small" ones each week.

Beautiful video! I just love you guys and your wonderful farm. I’ve learned so much and I appreciate you taking the time to share your wisdom which is enormous. I’m growing more squash this year because of videos like this. Mind you, I’m living in a three-story Trinity row house in Center City Philadelphia. That’s a challenge! But I’ve got a beautiful sunny third floor deck and a woodland style first floor patio (about the size of a postage stamp) I’ve been preparing for crops. It’s fun trying even if I am not entirely successful. By the way I have beautiful fruit trees on the third floor deck. You’ll laugh when you consider they told me last year, when I put in these little saplings, that these new trees would not bear fruit for at least 3 to 4 years, and particularly the peaches. But both peach trees are bearing fruit after just one year after and I think a couple of apple trees will soon follow. Where am I putting them all? Anywhere I can! There’s just enough room for me to sit in my little chair and occasionally use an exercise bike up there. I’m so glad I began to garden in earnest last year with the goal of some kind of sustainability, because this year with the quarantine situation has been so challenging. My garden has saved my sanity because I can spend literally days out there without running out of things to do. This is going to be a banner year for my two victory Gardens. Looking forward to more great videos from you both. God bless!

We are losing our seed plants because we have not been able to get them into the ground due to so much rain. We built two another garden area this year. Now we will have 3 gardens, it is so discouraging when the ground is just to soggy to get the garden amended and turned over. We did manage to get the newest garden tilled and amended yesterday, but we still need to add the wood chips in before we begin planting. Your squash is beautiful!!

I'm having similar results, just on a smaller scale. Trying to get closer to your size operation. I have much of a similar philosophy as you discussed at the end. And when someone asks why do you grow so much, the answer is simple; to eat, and because I can! Kind of a silly question. Thanks Danny and Wanda for taking the time to make videos and give us so much info. I try to do my part and let the adds play when I watch. I believe that is where y'all get revenue from the videos.

I love to make stuffed marrow (squash) when the courgettes grow to about 1 - 2 feet long! I use a ground meat + herbs and/or spices, etc. to make a force meat. Take off the end of marrow, take out seedy middle, (save seed!) stuff with mixed ground meat, put in covered crock, replace the end of marrow and bake in a medium oven for about an hour or so. When done, allow 10 minutes sitting time, then slice into portions. It's a tasty and good way of using LARGE courgettes! Yum!

Great share! Well said, I would never think why you need to grow so much, I know it takes a lot to feed a person. I don't think many people can fathom that much in their mindset. And that's ok. I think that you are so blessed to have the land to grow so much. And with that, you should grow as much as you can. God Bless ya! I cannot wait until the day when I too can grow in my own land someday. Watching homesteaders like you is what gives me the drive to keep going with the direction I'm headed. I may only be growing in containers/ giant mineral tubs with holes drilled in them, but they are good practice until I can get my hands really dirty in the soil. Ya'll keep me inspired. Today, I finally got around to getting my tomato seeds started. It has been unusually cold for this time of year. So I decided to hold back on my tomato starting until it grew warmer. Today was the first day that it was actually in the 80s over here in Texas. So I took my chance to get started. I even found some seeds from 2017 to grow my favorite cherry tomatoes gifted to me by my son. I hope I have a great crop this year and an even greater crop for ya'll this year! Congrats and good luck to ya! Take care!

Nice squash! So for the covered squash I’ve read that once it has blooms you can uncover during day for pollination and recover for night. The SVB Moth lays its eggs at night so that when to cover. I haven’t tried myself. Those plants flopped in no time. I agree over planting to allow for pests, damage, and disease. And those those tomato “Trees” !!!!!! Nice!!! Mine are growing like that too. I swear I remove bottom leaves almost every day. Have a Blessed Day!

We also have 20 wicking tubs and 4 raised beds 4'x8' x 24". We're putting out 4 plantings of sweet corn spaced every 2 weeks. Our favorite sweet corn is Ambrosia but like Honey and Cream also. We're really looking forward to this years garden and are praying for a bountiful year. Your Celebrity tomatoes look awesome 👌 Danny and Wanda, growing a few of those myself this year. Danny, we always plant peaches and cream corn. It is probably short and tasseled because of your temps. We put 13 13 13 in the soil when planting, (Arkansas) and when it gets knee high I side dress with 161616 or something similar, and it gets over 6ft before tasseling. It is the best corn ever, I hope you get some good ears.

Peaches and Cream is a Northern variety sweet corn that I grow in zone 4 Minnesota. It grows about 6-8 feet in my garden. I am guessing it likes my 15 hours of daylight. Just a guess. It is my best corn variety. I won't plant it until June 1st but will be harvesting mid July. I stagger plant.

Peaches and cream has a great flavor. We had the same problem with ours, tasseled early and some of the ears didn't form. We thought maybe it was due to lack of rain because we didn't water it with the rest of our gardens. Good luck!

Your garden is awesome, sure hope from Iowa my garden does well this year. We are just getting potatoes in the ground and onions. Been cold here...we need rain. Sure glad you have been blessed with rain. Stay well and prosperous.

I miss porch time, On The Porch. It was like sitting with my Great Grandfather years ago. He chewed tobacco and could spit way far into the the yard and would tell me stories about his life. I'm 65 but at the age of 7 it our Porch Time. Love and Best Wishes to You Both.

peaches and cream is the best in Michigan, it grows to 8 ft tall with huge ears. Very sweet and creamy.
