‘One little step at a time’ is right!! This time of year is daunting with everything that needs attention now!!! I was watching another channel and thought of you, the host commented she was really pleased with a combination and would be repeating it. It was Penstemon - Dark Towers, Nepeta - Cats Pajamas? and beautiful Iris in a soft, soft lilac…think it was ‘squill’ What a beautiful combo, the Iris just shone in front of the Penstemon!! And so did the Nepeta!! So as I was watching this video I noticed you don’t have many darker leaved plants so it might be something you want to look into?

I do have Penstemon over in the Rose Alley, it is a native one. I need to look up the Dark Towers, that sounds interesting. I find the Cat's Pajamas to be a stellar performer and love it. You are so right, some darker foliage would be a fantastic addition. Thank you for the suggestion!

OK Pam, I looked for the iris tour with names but couldn't find. I just want to know if the blue iris is called Mariposa Wizard. I have to get those!!!! I just got my nepeta seeds to plant and then plant in around my rose urns bed. I thought I was being original but I picked up that idea from you, thank you for the inspo❤. I have the regular white clover in the pathway to the Bespoke Greenhouse and I just mowed it down with a reel mower. It did little to nothing last year but this year it is taking off. I plan on mowing it regularly and hope it behaves. So the microclover is supposed to have smaller leaves but be just as vigorous. Lets hope it isn't too vigorous!

Pam what a great start in your garden! Those clematis are SO incredible. I think I have the same one but it isn't near as large as yours. Can I ask what direction the clematis face? I have buds on my two Eden roses. I bought Eden and Pretty in Pink Eden and I just can't wait to see them take off. I accidentally killed my Eden rose by moving it in Fall and not protecting it better so this is my newly planted one and well you just can't have one Eden so I bought the second in a different colour. I now want the red Eden. I also found Generous Gardener for $19.99 at my local grocery store! They are $70 at the Garden Centers. Score! Have a wonderful day!
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse

These clematis face East and get about 3 to maybe 4 hours of sun as the tall conifers of the woods across the street block the sun until 11 am or so. I have Pretty in Pink in the Rose Alley but it has been a slow grower. Your Eden may come back from the root if you give it a shot. Wow, I will have to check when our grocery store has plants out front, 19.99 is a great score.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse I thought the DA rose was a great deal too. It isn't in the DA pot (who really cares) but it has the tag and they had hundreds of older varieties. I also picked up Alchemist Rose which is a once blooming DA rose also. Last year I got "Mary" rose and it is a shrub rose that blooms prolifically and I mean non stop all summer long, very disease resistant and a pretty dark pink. I always try to check grocery store, not all have them but if they do its a win!

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse my Josephine clematis faces south with mulch and other plants at base and is doing better than the older two that I planted on north side of fence. I had mentioned before that the problem may be a nearby young oak.

So many look similar but I do know I haven't ever bought that one. I always get this one confused with Nelly Moser which I had too along with the Bees Jubilee. @@FlowerPatchFarmhouse I wasn't 100% positive. But they do resemble each other a lot. I think the pink chiffon might be a little more purplish. @@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Idaho's state flower is the Syringa, specifically the Philadelphus Lewisii (for Meriwether Lewis). It's a mock orange and smells deliciously tropical. I miss the smells from all the flowers in Hawaii. I keep the ones I have inside in the winter. Some names you probably wouldn't even know....like the pua kenikeni. A shrub that the flowers start out white and change to yellow and then orange but not necessarily all at the same time. So pretty. If you want a new shrub, the Syringa probably would do well there.

Since arborist wood chips several years ago I have Greatly improved the disturbed soil on this acreage. We now have worms! 🪱 I noticed we have the same bloom time if this vid was just taken and going back to your zoning videos that’s amazing because you’re Z8 and I’m 5. My clematis’Josephine’ is really being a show off in her first year with over 24 Huge blooms! I must have picked the perfect spot. I have two others and one grows sideways on the fence and the autumn white is starting over. I think too much root competition with nearby oak. Those roots suck all the moisture and nutrients. Love the shade don’t like the roots or leaves that hang all winter and shade the patio. Not sure what to do and may have to just contend with it because it takes too long for trees to grow. I am starting a Blaze Maple nearby that I propagated and then ran over🙄because it was dark and forgot about it, but maybe that and nearby maples will cast enough shade that we could take out the oak. The house will get zero sun in winter eventually if it stays. We have tins of oaks and this one just dropped nuts last year for the first time and I’m plucking trees out of the garden everywhere. There was a striking orange flower in pots-bulb?-in your front garden I couldn’t make out-nice color! We are getting TONS of rain this past week. I think about 5” so far and all last summer we had 3.5” severe drought. I hope it doesn’t dry up like that again as this has been the BEST spring ever! Although the peppers are wondering WTH is going on as they are lime green and need sun! Told them to talk to Mother Nature.😅 Oh, the ajuga! I don’t know where mine came from, but it is a tuff plant and will plow grass down totally. Yes to containing it!! Very pretty blue flowers and will try to keep it if I can contain it. Super ground cover along with a sedum-not yellow stonecrop that is hideously invasive all over the lawn-but another that is bigger and no weeds or grass grow through that either. So since we’ve improved the soil so it has topsoil now I’ve noticed some things getting aggressive. Poppies and a 10” high yellow flower that I think is a primrose?, but that thing never did much in 10 years and all of a sudden it’s doing the crazy creep😅. And Butterfly Weed orange is everywhere. What I’m thinking is if I have such plants I could afford to start dispersing them in the acreage outside of fenced area to see if I can beautify other areas without worrying if something eats it. I have a patch in the back near field that is nettles and CN thistles. I’ve whacked them back and wished I had covered it, but will need to deal with it. I had planned on getting rid of several large containers of collected seeds and will just try wide strips between cardboard/mulch strips. Maybe a paint on herbicide as it’s near a field I can’t organically grow there anyway. I have room to plant, but not protected. My hope is the deer and rabbits won’t mow the more aggressive plants, but I don’t know as I seen they nipped yucca leaves which I was shocked. I have been planting like crazy to get these needy seedlings in the ground as the rain forces me to keep the flats inside the GH and things are/were crowded as I gave several veg flats to a friend with church connections. He left and I was still wanting to get rid of more, but his truck was full 😂😂. I wonder if he’s still planting and distributing. Next year I’ve made note to back off on veg varieties as last year was tomatoes and this year peppers. I need to take note of how much we actually need to produce for preserving. Of course it’s all for reasoning of having more room for 🌺 😅. Sorry so chatty, just been lazy rainy days. It’s been nice to hear thunder that shakes the ground and odd as we haven’t had that for over a year. The Siberian irises I’ve noticed some are loaded and some are not and need to study why. My ‘Theresa Bugnet’ shrub rose is showing off nicely ahead of other roses. I wish I could post pics as this is the first peony blooms I am getting in over a decade!🎉. And the mystery is over if I had Canterbury Bells or Foxgloves-🎉First Ever Foxgloves in pink and yellow!🎉💃👏🏼💃👏🏼💃. First successful Napa cabbage and Bak Choi-like I said it has been the best spring ever. I do like that Latium, have to get some! It seems my idea of coral, pink and white seems to be purples and pinks so far. I crammed so many new taller snaps in between new flower area as many of the plants are biannual and my hopes are to have some color. If we have another warm winter the snaps may overwinter and then it will be crowded next year-fun! Yes, that cooler NW wind has cooled us off also. The heat will set in next week for sure. Lol, I have a ton of Gomphrena to get in yet. The winter sow I had great success with starting jugs in March and setting on east side of house then move to south once weather stabilizes. Well…I threw in old Amish Cockscomb (3 containers) and they all germinated like a carpet and the mystery seed I knew meant something in that tray in the GH I believe is Spilanthes And those are a carpet! Those seed were like dust and didn’t think much would develop 😄. It’s also called ‘toothache plant’ and wonder if the wildlife would like that 😂-maybe your gophers would😂. The hollyhock and poppies are starting to crowd some roses. This year the poppies are getting a haircut after blooming and thinning. Now that things are finally growing after years of work I will have to change up my game to thinning. I’m trying Cup & Saucer and another annual vine to fill in the gaps this year. The cats PJs I pulled out to more sun and this 2nd year it’s really doing well. It really is all about soil and location and when you get it right the plants reward. I’m concerned about mildew now with all this rain and cool temps and things crowding. Love the rain as I can do more gardening. We tweaked the drip and we were all set and it started raining 😄. Have to get a coral iris like you have, very nice! The Columbines are really having a great year and I finally seen a pink one among the native reds. Again, sorry for the long chat, but there was so much to talk about thru the tour and the wonderful surprises this spring! Everything looks lovely!
