I am amazed that people complain about what you spend on plants. Some spend more than that for a dinner and concert or game tickets. Which is entertainment for one night. These plants will give you beauty and joy for a whole season. Go for it Laura!!! Do what brings you and your family joy.

Agreed. Not to mention, she has to have business expenses to put on her taxes each year, otherwise she would be paying a crap load every tax season. Whenever they have something spendy I just think wow that'll be a great tax write-off LOL.

Great video...for the people commenting on how much the costs is of your plants, this is a gardening channel folks...it would be quite boring if Laura came on and only planted a few plants because of cost....enjoy the flowers and don't stress it.

They have a huge property to fill up. They make their living from doing this. It wouldn’t really work to do things on a scale like my yard. I have almost no yard. And I could not support myself doing videos of it.

Exactly. I just spent a fortune, to me, on a punnet of blueberries because I enjoy them. Blueberries are expensive here in Australia and especially now it's coming into winter. My reasoning was I don't drink or gamble or eat out so I'm quite comfortable buying something I enjoy. All that to say buy what you can afford and makes you happy. I don't know if we can buy supertunias here. I have seen some Proven Winners plants at Bunnings but not many.

@@loissaedder2214 Same here. I love fresh pears. No one around here sells them. I spent a fortune, to me, on 5' tall pear trees. Like you I don't do those other things and I don't like to shop. I will enjoy them and I totally agree with you. And I will have a huge blue berry crop if the birds don't get them.

I loved you pointed out your hole in your shirt. Buying plants trumps buying cloths! A sign of a true gardener. I have friends who do not understand my spending on plants vs their spending on cloths, fake nails, fake lashes and more. We all have what makes us happy. Plants make me happy. I was thrilled one Christmas when I got rocks as my present. Yes, a pallet of landscape rocks thrilled me more than a rock on my hand. lol.

Give me a break people! This is a garden channel! She works for proven winners so basically every video is a commercial for proven winners (and Espoma) she gets all those products at proven winners and Espoma expense. Of course the average consumer wouldn’t plant 85 Superbena. Stop watching instead of complaining and judging! I have got more joy from these videos for years! Since way before Benjamin was born! I can’t imagine a start to my day without a video and coffee! I now enjoy dig plant water repeat and Janey posts on Saturday too! I don’t watch the news! Enjoy happy videos instead 👏🏼💜👍🏻🌺💐🤞🌹🩵

I'd be more interested in finding a plant native to Oregon that may be a worthwhile replacement for boxwood. Or find a, evergreen, small-leaved plant in the trades that would be a good hedging material that has the look and performance of boxwood without blight or the maintenance needs of their pruning schedule.

OKAY! About dumping on that slope - Think Hugelkultur! Build a commercial strength stone retaining wall with pre-cast blocks, Maybe 3 feet tall to begin. Allow your debris to fall as far down as possible, hopefully down into the crevice between the wall & the slope. As the Hugelkultur backfill begins to get taller than the wall, add a few more layers of retaining wall blocks. Through the years, instead of letting the wall get immensely tall, allow a terrace to form & begin another wall higher up. You will have deep, rich organic soil to plant into, terraced areas to make paths through, & have different elevations for viewing the countryside. It could become quite a magical area.

I think boxwood hedges in the cut flower garden area make sense and would be beautiful. The layout of that area feels like a more formal English garden and the hedges would add to that. Regardless, seeing how your face lit up as you talked about it is a perfect reason to do it.

Laura and Aaron, we used your potting table video to make a table this year. It was fairly easy. We added two wheels, so we could pick it up with handles and move it easily. We used it in our garage to harden off plants, moving them outside each day on the table. We ended up adding two more wheels and thought that made it much easier to move, as the table is heavy. Since we have to turn a corner to get to the table to shade in our back yard, it was a little difficult moving it. In hindsight, we should have added two heavy duty wheels that pivot. We may change to the pivoting wheels next year. I grew enough seeds this year in my basement to completely cover a 4 x 10 table! Yea! Lots of plants for the garden this year. A great cost savings!

I don't have a garden 'budget' either. You wouldn't believe how many people go for walks to include my garden. I even have one on the outside of my fence along the public path that leads to schools. I made it longer as I discovered that no one was wrecking it. A couple of kids have picked a few flowers but not enough to notice. I LOVE that high school boys walking home in groups talk to each other about the garden, too. They don't even know I'm there. So sweet. Covid restrictions brought the importance of this garden home to me. I never felt isolated. I could chat to all the people that came along about happy things.

In the Netherlands, I treat Tulips like a reverse Dahlia. After spring I cut them back and I dig up the bulbs. Clean them and let them dry and they go into the dark basement until I need them in October to be planted again. When I store the bulbs I grab my Dahlia tubers and get those started. After the Dahlias are done I cut back, dig them up and they go into storage in the basement and I grab the tulip bulbs to be planted. And the cycle goes on and on. At some point the tulip bulbs are in fact done but I've always learned to dig them up each year and the can go for multiple years.

Plant only what you love and are excited about. Anything giving you problems, or you don't like it, move it or give it away. Neighbours/family are usually great at taking plants that don't work for you. Buy trees/perennials in the fall when they are discounted. Buy super petunias where you will only need 1 to fill a pot. Put a perennial in your pot to plant later in the ground and fill in with annuals. There are so many ways to stretch your dollar in gardening. Don't forget this is a business for Laura and Aaron. It's created to teach people how to garden and it definitely does that. My gardens have never looked better! I take all the tips I get from Garden Answer and apply them to my garden. Laura planting a lot is a business cost of doing business. It's like buying seed for a farmer.

I recommend for the person who asked about the beautifully designed hand truck you guys use, that she search online "barrel hand truck dolly", "fairbanks barrel hand truck dolly", "drum truck dolly", "low-profile steel drum caddy", and "wine barrel dolly". But, oh boy, there's even some NICE ones that are battery operated and cost as much as my little car did LOL

The repotting video of the big maple tree came at the perfect time last week because my husband got me a couple of massive, Jurassic-looking Boston Ferns for Mother’s Day last weekend and I knew I had the perfect tall, black, footed planters for them, but I had a couple of Heuchera in them that were loving life on our porch and had to be relocated from the big pots to some matching, smaller pots on the porch. I knew exactly what I had to do to depot and repot in those massive planters because of your video, Laura. Thank you! It actually made the job enjoyable for me and my husband. (No arguing over how to do it at all this time. 😂) I’m so happy with the result. Could not have worked out better. 👌🏼

Ok-can I even say what a chuckle it gave me when you said you had a hole in your shirt under your arm🤣🤣🤣! And as everyone has mentioned, money goes into what you enjoy. I had horses for 25 years and every spare cent went into the care for them and into the barn. Do what you enjoy, and turn a deaf ear to the basement dwellers.

Your encouragement to pull things that aren’t working and do the garden things that make you happy just for happiness sake has made all the difference in my garden. Trust your gut and garden intuition. You’ve got a wealth of knowledge and experience! I’m also quite sure the nay sayers will come around ❤

I remember the video that showed how Aaron built the greenhouse tables. The video was so well done that i firmly believed that I could handle the process. Sadly, i haven't but if i was inspired and confident enough, anyone would be! Its one of the things i love about GA videos...most of what they do is something that can be done on a smaller scale as well. It is always a learning experience to view GA videos and I often start my day with all the good feels 🤗☺️🌿🌻🍅🌼🌰🥔🌷🌱❤

Although you can grow tulips from either bulbs or seeds, bulbs produce flowering plants faster. A tulip bulb produces a plant that will usually bloom the following year. Tulip seeds take only a few months to germinate, but it can be several years before the plant bears flowers. - according to the Google
@Daimon-ls6no
@Daimon-ls6no 14 күн бұрын
It's probably also because most tulips varieties are really hybridised and so the flowers probably don't produce any good seed or maybe seed of the parent plants

Laura the trick to rid your hands from garlic is to wash your hands and while still wet rub your hands on stainless steel & rinse again (I do it on my kitchen basin, but also have a flat soap shaped piece that is handy). Repeat if still smelly... although it is seldom necessary to repeat. But it must be stainless steel, not aluminium or zinc.

I think a stone wall in the cut flower area would remind you of those British gardens you see and the walk up to the flower shed would be so dreamy with the flowers falling over the edge of the walls. All your space is amazing. It will be fun to see what you end up with. Be happy.

Can't get enough of your channel. We live in horse country and a word of warning - those with horses don't worry about the money. Our neighbor came over to see my plantings and I asked how the horses were. "Oh, another quarter million this year." LOL He currently has 8 horses and spent around $50,000 for vet service alone in 2023. I assume you'll be boarding so you'll need one full-time and one part-time worker. There's food, trailers, saddles, grooming equipment, etc. Horse shoes are very expensive - a checkup every few weeks is required and new shoes are frequent. Are they beautiful creatures? Absolutely, my granddaughter learned to ride but I'm glad I have a neighbor who is willing to throw money down the "horse pit".

Ya'll are so entertaining to watch! Love your videos & content. New editing style makes it even better! My favorite is when Laura said, "I did it because I wanted to!" It's also ok not to do something because you don't want to. Haters gonna hate. Fans will always fan. IMO, when making decisions - ask for expert opinions, do your own research, check your morals, then do whatever you like and never look back - next! Continue to keep it real - out here in plain sight! That's why GA is a hit! Kudos :D

I agree with others that a very low boxwood hedge in the cut flower garden would look great! Alternatively, relocating your rose garden in a formal, circular layout elsewhere- you have plenty of space for a formal rosegarden that can double for cut roses. Then you have more room for dahlias, lisianthus etc in the current cut flower garden 😊
