In this weeks video I’ll be working on the front gardens and planting a chaos garden in the back yard 🌺💐
Lots of flower planting! So much fun and so much beauty. I’ll also be doing some back yard clean up to prepare an area for the chaos garden.

My dad had a lawn service when I was growing up and he always dug the whole and put water in the bottom of the whole so it would soften up the dirt then plant and water from top to settle the dirt around the top. He always said if he put water in the bottom it would be easier for the roots spread into the new area

Hey Snowwhite, I loved to see that Mister Crow is a new visitor of your gourmet’s club! They are so very intelligent, I just love them to pieces. Guess I was one in my past life 😂 And sweet how you are doing the yardwork around the hibiscus in house shoes 😂 that’s how excited you were to get her into the soil? In German we call those shoes „Puschen“ by the way, cut out the c and give it a long uuuu and that’s how you pronounce it. I love that word, it sounds exactly as cozy as the shoes are 😃 I am still recovering from a little surgery, and my poor 11year old pup had one too.. 4 teeth had to be removed 😖 poor boy.. but I’ll be in my garden this weekend and will tie myself to a chair so I don’t think that „a little raking won’t do any harm“.. 😅

Yes Jodi, I have the same problem when I feed the birds, I also feed the squirrels. I have two families of squirrels one grey and other black with three mouths for each, making a total of six. Then add in numerous Sparrows, Wrens, Cardinals, Robins, Mourning Doves and the occasional Blue Jay or Starling. I was seeing Hummingbirds but alas, it's been awhile so they must not like all the traffic in our backyard. We surely are enjoying watching them.

I came back to this video because I just watched a short video of someone solving the squirrel and the bird feeder problem. It was hilarious and I wish I could share it with you but what they did was they had the feeders on a Shepard’s hook that they put a slinky over the pole going . So when the squirrel would try to climb the pole the slinky would take him back down. I hope you can find that video so you can have a laugh too!❤

I’m from Indiana and I have to say, summer arrived early with a vengeance!!! I do love summer but usually by August, I’m longing for cool, crisp Autumn weather! The older I get, the more I hate the humidity! I also have a small area in my backyard where I’ve recently sewn zinnia seeds. I’m getting ready to do wildflowers for the butterflies! I keep my bird feeders filled and my bird bath cleaned, especially in this heat. The birds are constantly getting drinks and taking baths. Our neighbor behind us puts out corn on the cob for the squirrels. I added a baffle to my bird feeder so they can’t get into it unless they jump off my house! 😂 I do love all of the flowers you’ve planted but I think the Lisianthus is my favorite! Too bad they aren’t perennials! 🙂 My new hibiscus is a Summerific Valentine’s Crush. It’s supposed to get bright red flowers. Fingers crossed!

Not weird that you have a pet cemetery. We have one too! They are buried out back by the Judy Tree as my husband calls it. It was a tree my mother gave me, she passed in 2020. Anyway 3 cats are buried around the tree. Cally who 20 yrs old and Kirby who had as Cally’s and died at 20 yrs old also. Sadly Calvin died at 2 yrs old from a snake bite is also buried there. 🐈🐈‍⬛😻🙀😽😿😸😺😾

Hey, Jodi, Good Morning from Baldwinsville New York. It is 9:09 am and its 82 degrees in my living room right now. I am trying to hold out on turning my central air on but today I think it will be early. Usually when its this muggy and warm I get breathless from the asthma I have so intend to stay indoors. By this weekend it is suppose to go down to the 80s. If its not humid then I'm good to go. My son and I will be going to camp Friday night. Its usually a few degrees cooler there. We have an out building that has an air conditioner and our camper has air so we should be good until Sunday when we go back home. We have a Mennonite veggie stand around the corner from our campgrounds and they were selling a hanging basket for 7.00. For around here that's cheap. They are usually 30.00. I cleaned her out, took the dead blossoms off and watered her good. She perked right up. A mixture of red ,white, and purple. So happy I rescued her. They have another one for 9.00 and they look like the striped peppermint candy, except purple. She's in bad shape too. I'm thinking of getting her. I will be low key for the next few days. Have a wonderful rest of the week and weekend . 😎😊🕊🐝🌷🌺🌼🏵

Good morning, Jodi👋! I'm a bit late but was busy making a gf 3 ingredient cake, preparing some "soup mix in a jars" for me to pair with my chicken or turkey broth for a quick meal when I'm tired. Next up is jarring up my mint/rose petal "T"isane that I just finished dehydrating. I was gifted some mint and some rose petals. I love edible flowers. They can be dehydrated and used in the winter for "flavored" "T"s. Great hot or cold. Easy to use. Just add to brewing kettle or cup if ground to a powder. Add boiling water and let sit for 4-5 minutes on a heated surface to retain the heat ( if you like it hot). Can put sweetener in the cup with the powder or pieces to sweeten it. BTW a big black trash bag of mint takes time to prepare to dry. First the stalks with leaves need to be soaked for 30 minutes in a clean bin/tub or sink that has 1/2 c SALT & warm water. If necessary, use a heavy upside down plate on top. This is to kill any tiny bugs or hiding slugs. (Repeat until all leaves/stalks are cleaned and roll between thick towels after draining & refrigerate until ready to fill more trays.) Then the water has to be drained off and the leaves & stalks patted dry. Next, the leaves have to be separated individually and placed on dehydrator trays. Any green stalks or stems get put in a pot and water is added to top of pot ..mine is 3 quarts. So I add 1/4c sugar with the water. Sometimes I add a 1/2 thumb of ginger, too. Then I bring to a boil. Turn down heat to about a 3 or 4 for about an hour or so. When the essence has infused the water the stalks turn kind of grey. It's great to drink this hot or cold. So I jar up and cool, then refrigerate for drinking later. Some, I freeze in cubes for winter or for adding to recipes for flavoring. Great added to smoothie with the frozen fruit. Yes, you do what you like in your yard!!! EDIT: Jodi. I love your plant enthusiasm. Yes. You have joined the ranks of obsessive gardeners. New beautiful plants. 😂 So many great choices! Loved seeing them all. Donna Jean looks amazing!!! Uh...pet cemetery. Nope. Took fur cuttings, labeled and taped in plastic in memory book. Their bodies if died at vets were cremated in a joint cremation at their office. The other bodies were placed in a trash bag and sent to the dump for burial there, where they will nourish new growth. This is because my kids would have probably obsessed over them and refused to let anything be grown there or it be mowed over. Someday I hope they plant a tree that grows food over my body as has been done for many many centuries. Barrel planter looks good as well as the other pot. Chaos garden is good. Please do keep us updated. The hydrangea will love that area by the driveway. Saw that you got your plant supports up in that front section! Yay!. You've really gotten a lot done. I have been a little busy but not at home. A friend has a service where she trains service dogs (& breeds them). Full size poodles. Not the toy ones. She's been bringing her dogs in alternating so they get used to "urban" vs deep country or big city environments. We walk a bit. My max so far is 2 "blocks" about a quarter of a NYC block, maybe. But for the past 8 years I've been limited in my walking due to Dr orders of needing walking companion that won't leave me in the dust. Her dogs have alerted a few times on me letting me know to take a break before proceeding. It's been interesting. I'm learning, the dogs are learning & I'm getting a little more exercise. I've also been attending a prayer tent in a parking lot. This is where we offer prayer without judgement. We do ask a few questions to determine how or what to pray for the person but it has been enlightening. Some wish for anointing with oil from the holy land, some do not. Again, no judgement. Some wish for prayers for family or relationship or housing or finances to be straightened out. We never know what is being asked for. It's a reminder that we're all people. Hope your week is good, Jodi! 👋

I have a recommendation for you. It’s called a bulb digger or auger. It’s just like the one used on digging for fence post but you put them on a drill. It’s really nice to loosen up hard ground giving the roots an easier time of spending out.

Thank you. I already have both of those. Used the bulb digger a ton when I planted bulbs in the fall. The auger was a disappointment, didn’t want to go through all my soil

Jodi…..have you tried putting down a thick layer of newspaper or cardboard out in your back yard then cover it with soil. Then you can plant on top of it and the paper and cardboard keep the weeds away.

No. Can’t do anything like that until I get cleaned up. That will be a whole huge project and expense on its own.

Coastal Georgia so it gets crazy hot here 🔥 I pretty much just do a vegetable garden. The veggies are wilting in the heat, but the weeds are thriving 😜

Hey, Jodi! I've been thinking about your back yard - and I love the idea of Chaos Gardening, by the way - and I know what a pain it is to pull up weeds. I was wondering if it would work if you tilled up the area and then raked across to get the weeds out? In my mind, it is a great idea, but I don't know if it would work or if you'd want to even do it. Just a thought! I love your channel and I never miss an episode of your adventures! ~your friend, Kristi, from South Carolina~ P.S. it is way too hot to get outside for me! I just buy potted flowers and try to keep them watered!🦋🌸💮🏵🌹🥀🌺🌻🌼🌷

I love to watch you gardening & decluttering, cleaning. But you're so cute with your birds 🐦 & very protective of them. I'm glad you're feeding the squirrels & chipmunks 🐿 also. You just need to get a pole that's slippery so the squirrels & chipmunks 🐿 can't climb up. Have a nice bird feeder on top. We have baby birds in our little bird house & I think some in our big barrels with a hole enough for them to get in. We've been having baby birds here for several years now, sometimes twice a year. We love them! We have squirrels too, but so far, they stay away from our bird feeder. There's lots of trees around us. We don't have any. One next door is a walnut tree & they sure like it over there! I'm only doing plants in my pots, but not all doing great! It's in the 70's to 90's for a couple days. But the humidity is good. It doesn't get real hot till the end of July to August then. Over a 100 & we just stay inside. We're in Eastern Washington, TriCities, the desert 🏜, but much more with all the wineries we have around. So, thanks for sharing. I love your videos. You make me happy! Take care!♥️☺️🫂🐾🦋🦉🍄🌷🧩🧵🪡🧶🌹🐿🐦✨️

NC here..90 today… very hot and humid. I work for an AC company and we’ve been busy busy..I planted my first dahlias the other day. I think I planted 5 and so far only one has come up. I am excited to see what it looks like. I like. I like planting impatients. Here in NC mine come back year after year. This year i decided to plan perrenials in that area so Im pulling up the impatients that are starting to come up and plant those somewhere else. I love sitting outside and looking at my flowers, the birds and squirrels (we feed ours bread). Crows like bread too-We also have a pet cemetary. You're right, you have to do something with them. We've had so many pets pass-my husband had hunting dogs over the years and pets that we had-Nothing wrong with that at all.

Many people in Phoenix have stones rather than grass or big gardens in their yards. Unless you can afford a landscaper, no one is going to do yard work in 110 degrees. I spray my yard with a weed and grass preventative because I'm not doing any yard work either. But that means nothing will grow. Next fall, I'd like to start some plants in containers.
