Lucky you! I’ve gotten lazy with the Japanese beetles but I’m certainly grabbing them when I can. They are the worst!!

They are tasty plants apparently! Between the deer and the rabbits it feels like a losing battle but it can be done! I spray them every two weeks usually but this year with all the rain it’s been weekly 🥲. Good luck! They are pretty resilient, hopefully they have enough energy in that bulb to keep them going!

Yes! They fall right off the leaves when you go to get them… I do this also. Someone mentioned using 4 o’clock too as a sacrificial plant… they eat it and die. Will be testing this out next year! Wish there was a better (easier) way to manage them!

Yes, just deadhead the flowers when they’re done blooming and leave the rest of the plant to die back naturally and feed the bulb for next year. 😊

They actually get cut back to ground like normal asiatic lilies in fall or spring. I haven't done mine yet, so thanks for reminding me ;-)

Nope I leave them in the ground. They are hardy… I just cut the stems back to the ground in the fall when all is dying back.

Old… let’s just say I haven’t purchased in at least 3 years because of the red lily beetle hunting I do on the amount I have already. So they are all upwards of 4 years old 😊

Hi there! Happy to help! First, what type of lily did you purchase? Asiatic lilies? (Or tree lilies or daylilies or martagon lilies etc…..)

Thank you! I ordered some oriental and species lilies that are coming as bulbs. I don’t really know the difference between oriental and species, but I’m not really worried about the bulbs. I ordered some daylilies, and they are the ones that will be shipped as bare root. Those are the ones I’m worried about. Maybe they don’t start as bulbs. I have some daylilies, but I bought them as plants, so I don’t know how they are usually shipped. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Ok so yeah, the bulbs will be easy…. You’ll bury them approx 6”. Bareroot daylilies are pretty easy also. That’s how all of them come unless you buy potted from a nursery. Depending how soon after shipping you receive them, you can soak them if they look dried too much… (soak for 6 hours or overnight if they look like they need it). If they look full and fine, plant them so their roots are buried but leave the leaves out. You should be able to tell where they get buried too but if they come and you get lost, send me a picture to guidinggreenthumbs@gmail.com, I mark the photo where to bury them too. Just water them well and keep them watered. If you’re headed into fall/winter you may not see growth before they go dormant. If you’re in a warmer zone you’ll see new green growth from the middle of the plant and the cut leaves will brown and die back. (Totally normal!). Milky spore is a beneficial nematode that attacks the grubs in the soil. It’s a powder (or you can purchase granules) but it needs to be watered in really well and remain a bit moist until it’s worked into the soil/grass and absorbed as well. You can purchase at any nursery center. It’s a Blue and White Bag with “Milky Spore” on it. May come in a box also if you get a smaller amount. 😊

I have no idea how they choose gardens to feature, but none that I’ve ever seen in the paper magazine or on their KZfaq channel are as beautiful as yours.

You def know what you’re talking about. Would make perfect sense to have a sacrificial plant but I have found one they like more than the lily plant itself. Would love to know if there is one!

I have had most of these lilies for years (8+) and never have to water. Unless they are newly planted, or moved from one area to another... I would not water them unless there is a 2 week or more extended drought period. If yours are newer, then I would only water when needed from the soil down (not flower or leaves) Maybe once a week at most and thats if there was no rain. They are pretty tough bulbs!

Hi! You can definitely plant it now if it is a potted lily... keep it watered in dry spells and leave the foliage until it naturally dies back. When it dies back naturally, you can cut the stem to about 3-4" above the ground (so you can locate it in the spring!)

Asiatic lilies are hardy in your zone. Best if overwintered in the ground so I would replant them. 😊

Like I am talking massive holes from the animals And my husband has to fix that whole entire section That is the onlyyyyyyy reason why I dug it up. He can not do nothing to that spot till next weekend. So what do I do Is it gonna die now I have it laying out on my porch . No I can not plant it any where Else my yard is super duper small and I have no room I planted 35 tulips 15 hyacinth I have so many gladiolus and I also have 8 more of those types of lilies coming in the mail .. I do not know what to do now .. will it die if I keep it out of the ground how do I store It ? If I put it in the ground after he is fixing that spot how to I replant ?

@@cassandrarudolph1307 You can cut the leaves and stem off and try to store the bulbs in a cold (37-45° preferably) dry dark area in peat or wood shavings until spring but there is a chance mold could set in with the length of our winter…. A root cellar is perfect if you have one but you’d have to frequently check them. You can plant them in ground as long as the ground isn’t frozen. You may lose blooms for next year but they can tolerate a lot…and rebound nicely. As long as the bulb is firm it will grow. If you’re land isn’t available do you have someone who can plant them in their garden for you until spring?

Try Liquid Fence deer and Rabbit repellent! If you spray consistently (especially after rainfall) it will help!
