This cactus propagation will work for Cereus and some other longish cactus. Good for root-stock and just fun.
Cereus is a genus of cacti including around 33 species of large columnar cacti from South America. The name is derived from Greek and Latin words meaning "wax", "torch" or "candle". The genus Cereus was one of the first cactus genera to be described; the circumscription varies depending on the authority. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Cereus
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Cactaceae
Rank: Genus
Higher classification: Cereeae

Thank you for your dedication to make this video - over 1 year time span! This is a very interesting method of rooting, I will definitely try it out. I would also love to see some videos on the cacti you graft on the rootstock.

Hello 3cl3cl1cI'm glad You like this video and thank You for letting me know that. This method of propagating cereus cactusis has better than other in that respect that less of them rot before sprouting the roots. Once I get cactus with longish white hair, I will thy grafting it on these root stocks and make a video. When I was in my early teens I purchased such grafted cactus but had to move (run away) because of little war ... so now I'm trying to recreate that cactus. Meanwhile I'm 71 years old (almost 72) with head of real (non-cactus) white hair :-) Cheers.

@@GardenSvideos I love your humour! Also in your videos. If you cannot find the white hair cactus please tell me, I have contacts all over the world. I would happily ask for you because I managed to get DHA adenium seeds from one of the sellers you recommended and they are happily growing here in cold Canada!

Hello 3cl3ct1cThank You very much for reply. I'm not sure what specifically you meant when You wrote that You love my humor but there are 2 videos here that I did purely as a joke.one of them is call:Flight of the applebeeand it is on: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZZ-ncWUs6iXfZ-U.htmlnd another is call: Can you imagine edible Adenium? - Parodyand is on: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rcWhlsWCmLLXioF0.htmls for my search for cactus with thorns modified into long white hair - Yes - I would very much appreciate if You can tell me who is selling seeds of such cactus. As for You living in Canada - wow - hopefully not very cold part of Canada (for Your Adeniums sake). If You would like / wouldn't mind writing me more about Your self I would be glad. Till now all I could imagine was from watching Your channel page (which does not have Your email address) and from that I could not guess that You live in Canada.I once flew over part of Canada (loooooooooooong time ago), flying from Europe to New York city. All I could see from little window of the airplane was trees, trees and more trees.

Hello my dear friend It's interesting unusual rooting method, you get wonderful roots! And your blooming bush is so beautiful, very nice color! )

Hello Elen! This method prevents most of the rot during propagation of Cereus cactus by cutting. As for 'blooming bush' - id doesn't mind to grow and bloom in medium size pot so it'll grow well on your balcony (in summer) and windowsill (in winter). It blooms readily but sets fruit (very pretty bright red miniature and apple shaped) very rarely. Each fruit has 3 seeds that rarely sprout. But it is very easily multiplied by cuttings. So if You know somebody who has it ... and if not than ask about it workers in Botanical garden/s. In english it is call dwarf Acerola, or dwarf Barbados cherry. The scientific (Latin) name is: Malpighia punicifolia Nana.

Those look like what some refer to as ‘night blooming cereus’... the blooms are huge and gorgeous ... I have these in the Sonoran desert... the blooms open at night usually kind of late, by around midnight... then by around 7am they start to die off... the flower is short lived, but magnificent... and for a good month or two, a large mature cereus will bloom every night with many blooms... often 10 to 15... even more on the very large and mature cereus ... this is one of my very favorite cacti

Wow - thank You for valuable info! I do have a cactus that has huge white flowers and closes morning and next night reopens but not so perfectly ... but it is not cereus but flattish climbing cactus. It blooms only around christian and usually with only 1 flower.

That is a good idea, but it would have to be made in late December (because it only blooms around Christmas) and I would have to have some sort of nite vision camera

What is the advantages to planting horizontally? I'm not following....because it seems one stalk out of each anyway

Hello Ivy Butterworth. I'm sorry that I'm replying to Your good question just now. If the cutting were to be planted with the cut downwards then there will be (even after drying the wound) bigger chance of cutting rotting.
