As a substitute for this week's SPORTCAST, Ex "The Anfield Wrap" editor and current "The Late Challenge" podcast host, Gareth Roberts, joins us for this week's episode
You may have seen Gareth rubbing shoulders with Liverpool's elite over the years, while still being one of most respected voices of the terraces.
Taking on a new challenge with his latest podcast, Gareth shares stories of old, as well as his plans for the future.

First time on the channel, fellow scouser and LFC fan. I must admit Robbo was a huge loss to TAW. I always looked forward to his GET INN and insights to the game. Also credit to Andy Grant fantastic skills of letting Robbo just talk. So many chime in and ruin the flow of the interview. Subbed mate.

Robbo and Maych have the best personalities and charisma around the club fan media imo. Educational establishments should be banging the door down to get Robbo inspiring young people.

Absolutely loved this whole interview. Robbo articulate, funny and endlessly interesting as always. And Andy showing what an intelligent interviewer he is, just letting the answers roll, but jumping in with great questions whenever the chance came up.

My first time coming across this Podcast and I have to say you were both brilliant, always enjoyed Gareth on LFCTV with the Press Box. So interesting to hear him talk about his past history and achievements, especially mentioning teachers who inspired him, best hour and 24 minutes I've spent in a long time, wishing you both continued success and happiness, especially where LFC is concerned 👌

Get yourself a pttls, dead easy to get, ALS do it in Granby, allows you to officially teach. only takes three months or six, i did it, helped a lot

Great podcast lads! I've really missed hearing Gareth's opinions on things so I'm buzzing to hear about The Late Challenge pod! Also if all else fails I just want to put out there that I'd pay a monthly subscription just to receive a 'GET IN!' voice note after every LFC win! (probably wouldn't involve much work considering how bad we are at the moment haha)

Had to laugh when Robbo mentioned he actually got a D for media studies.. I was very much the same although it was for Computing.. because I was so focused on footy at school and becoming a pro and didn't put as much effort in as I should despite enjoying the subject, madly the only reason I graduated was because the teacher lied and said I had done the work but failed to hand it in because she must've seen I was a decent kid. Fast forward and I've made a career in IT after failing to make it as a pro footballer. Seems I'm not alone with that kind of story 👊

whats true is that modern demands need a "document" whereas that only says the person has the mentality to study & remember HIOW to pass an exam, true Genius & creative people, dont DO that!

The Anfield Wrap is the best Liverpool podcast group in my opinion. Gareth is missed in regards to that. They have really good personalities I can listen to and respect. Neil is a talented host and that is a big difference. However, somehow we need to see more of them for free. Maybe a daily report or something along those lines. E.g. DR Sports has a ton of content and I think Liverpool would benefit from something similar.

I've pretty much stopped watching TAW because Robbo left. Didn't intend that it just happened that way. Really like Robbo. Buzzing the Late Challenge Podcast is now a thing.

one of the negatives of the merge between mainSCREAM media & social media foooty fanzine/podcasts etc is that too many of the latter copy the BS presentations & bling of the former and dont just give raw opinion or (true) news etc

I like Robbo and enjoyed him on TAW, but I don't get why all the TAW lads make out like Redmen TV didn't exist well before them. I get they might not like it, or think it's wool or 'less than' given they're SOS founders etc, but it's always put me off them talking as if LFC fan video/audio media didn't exist before them while emphasising 'from the heart of Liverpool', clearly as a juxtaposition with the rest.

When have I made out it didn't exist? I was publishing Well Red back then and I used to go on it. It was the first video channel. There wasn't a podcast from Liverpool.

@@thelatechallengepodcastNot trying to have a go at you (and I remember you coming on there). Personally, I don't see a significant difference between a podcast and Redmen's old main format where it was just Machin Jr/Sr+Pajak sitting on a sofa having a chat, it was essentially a podcast with a picture so they could be on KZfaq. Evidenced by the fact most major podcasts now publish video. I've listened to/watched enough TAW that I'm very familiar with the messaging. The beats I perceived were "the first/the original" and "we're real supporters because we're 'in the heart of Liverpool'". Perception is obviously subjective, but those were the differentiators I heard emphasised. Obviously, for a differentiator to be a differentiator, there has to be a juxtaposition with something. The implication is that other fan media are johnnies come lately, too wool, too "out of town"/don't go the game etc. Now, you can obviously say this was not the intended perception and/or that I'm misperceiving it. However, I've seen other people perceive it the same way, particularly, I've noticed, supporters living abroad who are already sensitive to perception of them because they can't go home and away. One could cogently argue that any sufficiently widespread misperception ought to be treated as a bug and messaging adjusted. And I'm being generous. I'm pretty sure I've heard explicit claims of "first" (not from you), presumably with the "podcast" implied as you explained, but not explicitly mentioned, *in video format*. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to explain where I'm coming from. Like I said, I always enjoyed listening to you, especially since I never got any whiff of arrogance from you (or Copey for that matter), you just came off as one of us who through hard work and dedication got to have a platform. (See how there's an implied juxtaposition there even though I've not said someone else comes off as a bit of a big-time charlie? ;)
