Oh. They're bricking themselves. By now most countries left in the tournament (and Scotland for some reason) are paying off the cooks in the players hotel to slip something in Gareth's food. His meals probably consist of 50% multi-vitamins, supplements and healthy herbs by now. They're all terrified that he gets sick and has to skip a match.

Forgot the beautiful trick of getting the ball all the way up into an attacking position and then just slowly passing it back all the way to Pickford. Or if he's thinking really creative have a D shaped group at the back just passing the ball between each other for half the game, a great southgate trick is to have the players pause for a few seconds to lull the opposition into thinking something might actually happen, then go back to passing it between each other.

It is very good, as it suits Harry Kane’s skilful play style. Wingers making runs is very bad for him as his passing is atrocious. Instead, it lets Kane dribble past the defence, flick it up, and do the bicycle kick. And like he said, it confuses the opposition.

Remember, the second you go a goal down and the crowd starts roaring to encourage you for an immediate response, it's important not to let it affect your concentration or team's shape. Simply begin doing the same thing at the same speed with the same soporific amble as you did before the other team scored.

There was a time when England lost brilliantly. After all, we are a nation who are absolutely outstanding at coming second, in spectacular fashion, in any sport. Had they lost last night it would have been one of the most embarrassing losses in history your irony would be well placed if they beat Switzerland or any decent side. But the euros have changed their format so playing Slovakia getting two shots on target yes is cause for concern. And when are these glory days you speak of . Every last one of us expected England to reach the quarters and lose 2-0 or 2-1

Absolute genius. My favourite Southgate masterclass tactic is playing multiple number 10s and all in the middle of the pitch. Also using Kane not only as a striker but as a CDM, Winger and CB is absolutely beautiful.

I truly believe that Southgate likes to keep the England fans on edge and when a player finally scores it is the ultimate surprise 😅. I don't enjoy football but with someone who does. It's watching the disappointment to utter disbelief that gets me.

😄 Clever comedy transcends most divides. I've never seen a second of Gareth Southgate in my life, and wouldn't know him if I sat next to 'im. I did recognise his name as the longtime (?) England Coach. And I gathered from this send-up that he's judged as unpredictable, erratic and maybe even incompetent in his role. However, just heard that England got through to the Semis after a winning penalty against Switzerland. Maybe the players are completely ignoring Gareth's commands!

The interesting thing about the collapsing table due to an overburdened left wing was that, in the last game at least, it actually ended up seemingly more about (ball) height rather than (left-footed) width. Palmer appeared to be the only player capable of kicking the ball over the first line of defender's heads from set pieces. This is unlike Foden, Trippier or Saka... or right wing players like Walker or Alexander-Arnold. And it was from the right that started the move for Kane's winner. (I mean, the fact he used his actual natural left boot to deliver the cross seemed rather moot in the end.)
