I was lucky enough to be sent a new lens. One that when it arrived I had no idea what it would be used for, or how powerful it is!
In this video we review a brand new Fujifilm prime lens, and tho not made by Fujifilm, it's definitely one of my favourite ever Fuji lenses. Although the lens is a bargain, it 100% competes with the best FujiFilm lenses available! I've used it solidly for three months now and it's fast becoming one of my favourite Fuji lenses. In my opinion, it's a must-have lens for all Fujifilm photographers, especially those who shoot low-light events.
Thanks for watching.

The focusing issue might be a combination of Fujifilm and Viltrox trying to figure things out between themselves. I've used the Sony version of this lens extensively on a Sony a6700 and can't recall any missed-focus frames. I love this lens!

Regarding a/f on the X-T5. Back in May I took some shots of somebody coming down a long steep zip wire. Fast moving. Taken on HS burst starting at about 300 yards out. I was using the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. The subject was spinning on the vertical wire and the Fuji kept head / eye focus very well. 85% in focus I'd say. Sure, not as accomplished as Sony or Canon yet very presentable.

I have this lens and everything you said is accurate, however, I did also pick up the Samyang 75mm 1.8 fuji, and honestly I don't know why I really picked up the Samyang for more personal use than the Viltrox75mm, I love them both but the size and portability is Samyang is just better. Maybe and hopefully Viltrox's next 75mm will be much smaller. Either way! Great video.

Would love to see Viltrox do an affordable 400mm or 500mm prime. If so, I'd combine it with my Fuji 70-300 on my X-T4. It'll also be great if it had similar autofocus to the 70-300 because it's been working awesome for my needs for both photo and video. I know the Fuji 200 F2 is amazing, but it's waaaay beyond my budget and I think it'll be the same with any telephoto prime they'd release... unfortunately:/

Thanks Gareth, As I'm new in my photography career and trying not to spend to much money , Ive just picked up an older XH1 and thought id spend more on some decent lenses like the Viltrox 75mm and 27mm. Any suggestions for a wide zoom around 10-24 or 10-18 for architecture? Also, do you suggest Lightroom or Capture One for editing Fujifilm ... I'm new to both programs.Thanks again👍

Dear Gareth, thank you for this insightful explanatory video. Very helpful. Thank you for inspiring us. I am new to Fuji and want a portrait lens, but can only afford one. I do not need video, but fast autofocus is as important as low light performance or the bokeh for me. What would be your pick between the Fuji 52mm f/1.2 (the new version), the Fuji 90mm f/2.0 or the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2? Many thanks 🙏 😊

@@GarethDanks Yep it's MF only. And I still use it professionally for concerts, there's just no alternative on Fuji (yet) although the Viltrox 75 does fill that role in smaller venues and when I have accreditation for the photo pit (which is most of the time, but the Samyang is cheap enough to stay)

@4Kandlez - With an APS-C sensor, you get a crop from the center of a shot taken with a 75mm lens at f1.2. That crop has the equivalent framing of a shot taken with a 112mm lens and the equivalent depth of field of a 112mm lens at f1.8.
@brownbear100
@brownbear100 10 ай бұрын
@@craigpatchett3508unless you move a couple of steps forward fo achieve exactly the same DoF with the f1.2 lens. Equivalency is just a nonsense as there is never true equivelancy, one parameter is always different. You could just as easily say that everything is different, DoF, light gathering, except the framr of view which is different because the thinking photographer has just adapted to the mount and moved to get exactly the same look.

@brownbear100
@brownbear100 10 ай бұрын
@@GarethDanksdoesn't sound like you have had the x-mount version of the Samyang to test. For starters it is indeed weather sealed! Build quality is great, has taking a good bashing on the x-t5. Obviously made to tight tolerances, even if less metal. And it is very sharp from centre to corner with next to no vignetting or distortion (full frame sweet spot). Compactness is certainly a selling point, but that is in addition to its IQ. I'm more than happy hiking or travelling with the 50-140 to get the best possible IQ and flexibility, and I've been taking the Samyang instead more and more, not because its lighter, but because its lighter AND holds its own against this lens for when I don't necessarily need the flexibility of a zoom. Bokeh is very similar to the 50-140, too, which is the only downside. IQ wise the 90 f2 still has it beaten, there's no substitute for the rendering or compression of that lens as far as primes for the x-mount go (18 1.4 pretty damn close though). But having the 90mm, which gives me roughly the same DoF as the 75 1.2, albeit with a different field of view, its easier for me to justify having both the 90 f2 and 75 1.8 than the 75 1.2. Because sometimes you want to slip a high quality tele into a pocket just in case. The lack of aperture ring is a fair complaint. But, at the same time not unusual either. Samyang's approach to allow you to programme the focus ring to change aperture is a decent hybrid option, and allows for absolutely step-free aperture chages with video. Not de-clicked but with stepped changes as is usually the case with x-mount, but completely step-less fluid aperture.changes as Samyang decouples the "aperture ring" from the camera when you flip the custom switch to mode 2. Dont know of any other lens for x-mount that manages this. The sharpness is comparable to the Viltrox. The question is really whether you need f1.2, the smoother bokeh and more metal in your lens.
