Not now. Inability to use device's memory is a dealbreaker for me. 405m has 128gb.

Somebody has made Drastic usable on the RG35XX through garlicOS so hopefully we will see it included in later builds of 2.0 as well. I am so excited to see where this will go!

I think I might stick with Gamma OS on my 405M, but when it comes out for the 35XX I'll get that updated to 2.0, as long as the cat theme is still compatible

Thanks for showing how it's done. Can't wait for it on my 35xx. I don't really see the point on the 405 v or m as the point of those systems is getting DC/saturn/N64 and some PS2/GC games running. For me I'm sticking with gamma for my 405v.

I agree but as garlicos gets better that might change for me, I like having quick easy access to my games.

Yeah the dual boot makes this a no-brainer. At least when Garlic has matured into beta or further. Only issue is, that Garlic is strict about the directory structure so you would have to put your roms in that library folder and then add them from there in Daijishõ afterwards.

Hello, where did you get these b,a,y,x buttons on rg405? I see you changed the original buttons. Why do you changed them, because of scrape issue?

I'm going to stick with Daijisho. I enjoy the ability to launch a game using any core or standalone emulator I want, plus the other million things Daijisho allows me to do and use. Daijisho also has a "resume last game played" widget, along with a "random game" widget which is amazing if you have a large collection and want to try something new. That is one sweet looking RP2+ by the way. I'm not a fan of the color red but I like how that looks.

How do u do dual boot? And wth is this linited crap on stock os in the rg405v ? I really trying to enjoy this device but this is getting complicated. I have all the system roms i want to play and their bios files but i cant get systems like sega cd to work.

The zip copy action to the sd card in your instructions is redundant and actually slows the process. Extracting to sd has to read the zip file from sd card to memory then writes extracted contents from memory to sd. It would be quicker to extract from your desktop directly to the destination folder.

Nice informative video,. I wonder if it will be possible for you to make a video tutorial on installing Garlic 2.0 on the RG35XX Plus. I cant find anyone that has done one for it.

I'm glad you liked it. It's coming I'm just waiting for black seraphs next update. It should be soon but right now the stock OS is still the best option. -Aish

@retrohandhelds: I don't know why you came to the conclusion that Garlic will cap out at PSX. It might be so at the moment and it is the case on the RG35XX but in the end this is Linux and Black Seraph might as well include the ability to use standalone Linux emulators and higher RetroArch cores in future updates. Pretty sure big things are going to happen here, especially since it's open source. However, as you stated multiple times in the video, this is only the first freakin' alpha for now and despite being hyped as f*ck for the initial Garlic 2.0 announcement, I will gladly wait a few months for it to get into shape before I bother with it on my 405M. Especially since folder names might spin around and I don't wanna reconfigure everything on the Gamma/Daijishõ side a thousand times along the way. But: When this become somewhat nice and stable, I'd definitely use that as my main OS even if I miss out on my systems, apps, features and other QoL things that Gamma offers over this one. I love simplicity when it comes to these retro handhelds. The Miyoo Mini is still untouched with Onion OS. It's the greatest handheld OS ever imho and if anything might come close, it'll be Garlic.

That came straight from black seraph, he currently has no plans for stand alone emulators so while it's possible don't expect it unless things change. But yes the idea of a Linux build from this is very exciting, oh and if you want to know more Black Seraph will be on the podcast Monday 😁 -Aish

I cannot get it to boot into garlic os with my rg405v, unless the function key is another button, and not the one in the top middle of the keypad. edit: yeah its not the function key lol, its the button in the top left side of the device, pfff. edit1: ok so the middle button in the keypad area is in fact the function key, for some reason the image I found online that indicated the controls stated the function key was on the top left lol. If you're having trouble with your rg405v, hold the power button, once you hear the fan THEN hold down the function button (middle button) and it'll boot up most likely, took me a few tries. Thanks joey retro handhelds, sorry his video was better (for rg405v users) due to the fact he is using a rg405v to showcase the install process

If it's a new SD card just format it once and set it as portable storage, that should fix the issue.

Hello, can it be, the screen of RG35XX plus is bertter than 405M? The first one seems to be more colourful l, the other one seems to have a blue tint.

They both have the same resolution and I haven't noticed much of a difference in colors, but if you're on the stock android version for the 405m you'll have over sharpening and that hurts the image quality. -Aish

On stock os i cant get most of the emulators to work thats outside of the game mode. No sega cd, no 32x, turbographics 16, 3do amiga help.?

I just keep booting to the Android recovery page after installing the APK, doesn't seem to find init files on the SD card. Tried multiple SD cards. As much as I'd love to run GarlicOS on this device, this seems to need some more dev work.

Installation of bootloader was super easy. The "init" script need to be saved without any file-extension (just: init) and copied into the "boot" folder (which need to be created) of a fresh exFat formated SD card. Then extract one of the rootfs.7z files of your supported device with 7-zip in to the same boot folder on your SD card. Insert the card e.g. in your RG405M and press+hold power button for 1.5 sec, then press+hold the home button together with the power button, release both buttons when the anbernic logo pops up. the screen will get a bit dimmed with the bootlogo and GarlicOS 2.0 is running ..... I LOVE IT

@@waeggy123 yes I read the instructions. Doesn’t boot to garlic. Going to retry again later with a smaller SD card. I recall a similar issue with GammaOS and large SD cards.

If every step was done correctly holding the power button for a second then power+function should take you to garlic

@@retrohandhelds Would it matter if the bootloader is unlocked? I have tried a 16 gb card and a 256 gb card and neither work. I have done all the steps exactly and I was able to install Gamma without a hitch.

I like the idea but without dreamcast gamecube ps2 etc. i don't really see the point for my 405m Garlic is great though, garlic on my 35xx and GammaOS on the 405m

Not yet but the plan is to have it come to a lot of devices in the near future, and this is the first alpha so currently it's not better but very soon it should be.

Onion OS is by far superior to Garlic OS. But it is limited to the Miyoo Mini family. However, maybe the Onion devs can use this as a base to port Onion to all devices that are supported by Garlic 2.0

It's not a swap just a dual boot, if you don't hold down the buttons when turning it on you go right back to android. -Aish

Hey, nice to hear that Garlic OS now works for 405M. But for me it dosn´t work. I do all steps like in your video but when i start my device everytime i landed in the android recovery mode. I dont know what happend..Sorry for my bad english :)

No i had no partitions…i used the unbrick tool to recover the device and to get out of the bootloop.. i think maybe the sd card was broken. after sd card change it works. thank you

Well to be honest, I for example don't really care for anything above PSX on such a dedicated 4:3 retro handheld. And I love the simplicity of Onion and Garlic. That being said, there's not a single reason why other cores like for N64 or Dreamcast can't be ported in the future as well. Black Seraph just didn't include them on the RG35XX because it couldn't run them anyways. Also since this is Linux in the end, he might as well support standalone emulators at some point. Onion already does that. That way it could theoretically run everything that you know from emuDeck on the Steam Deck which is nothing but Linux too. Of course the Steam Deck is more powerful but as I said, everything that is possible on the Android side and has a Linux core or standalone emulator is totally possible in the future. Just give it time.

Daijisho ftw,,,, for the 405, I will use the unlocker for t618. GammaOS also no better aside from saturation issue on screen...and last i checkded no fan,,, i plan to add mods like rgb to the case and will use fans power,,, thats just me tho. even Anbernics own front end is better

Daijisho is awesome and for gamma there's also some performance improvements, and if you like CoDM you can use native controls. -Aish

I'm not a big fan of Daijisho, its interface is cluttered, confusing to navigate, and has most of the same problems as Emulationstation in that it puts the focus on ROM collecting rather than actually playing games.

@@ultrasquid579I thought it was just me, certain influencers seem to love this FE. I think it’s horrible, way too many options and the control interface for the FE is very unintuitive and cluttered. Always end up changing the list mode of my roms accidentally and having to use the screen to get into certain areas is frustrating. Adjustable option levels, cleaner look and easily configurable control buttons for daijosho would be very welcomed.
