I've owned several different devices for golf and this is by far the best of the bunch, a little pricey but worth the $$$. Garmin definitely has a winner with this product.

I have the garmin G80, which is the handheld GPS and launch monitor. $500, but we'll worth it. Garmin is really coming into its own with really top end golf equipment.

Great review. When you lase an object does it show on the hole overview? Let's say you lase at tree 150 yards away, will a "dot" or "marker" show on the hole overview to show where that point is? Many thanks

John Smith that would be cool, but don’t think so. What it is does do is give you a green view though. Later in this video I hit a pin on the course, and you can see what I mean.

Fantastic unit! I played yesterday and the functionality is awesome! The only thing that I see is the optical quality should be a higher resolution. Hoping that Garmin maybe has an upgrade in the near future.

I bought the Z80, and fully charged the screen wouldn't come on. I had to factory reset by holding all 3 buttons at once for 30 seconds. That worked for 1 week, then again being charged, black out with no display again. I returned it rather than play a constant game of factory resetting. Hopefully the z82 has fixed the buginess because it's the coolest rangefinder ever when it works. Built in GPS with 2D course layout is awesome. Was disappointed with them using micro usb technology instead of USB-C.

I feel like shot and score tracking would be a little cumbersome since you have to look into the viewfinder every time. Could you please comment on how that experience has been?

At 11:38 you laser the flag at 376 playing 378 w/ slope. However, the GPS says front of green is 381 and back of green is 398. Any idea what's going on? Have you been able to play a round with your Z82 since filming?

The TecTecTec is like a Honda Accord. Solid, gets the job done. The Garmin is like a Mercedes or maybe even a Rolls-Royce. If you want the top of the top this is the one. But you will pay for it too.

If you have the Garmin S70 Golf Watch and full set of CT10 Sensors do you really need the Garmin Z82? I think I would rather have the Bushnell Pro X3+ for my Range Finder along with my Garmin S70 Golf Watch/Sensors. I thought about going all Garmin S70 and Z82, but I think that would be doubling up too much with the app. I'd like to hear your thoughts or what anyone else thinks too. Thanks for the great content, keep up the great work.

Did you notice with the Z82 that when you move the unit slightly left or right when looking through the viewfinder that the screen becomes blurry, and loses focus very easily? It seems like anything but having your eye in the perfect location will cause the screen to lose focus. Almost like the viewing angle is extremely narrow. Makes it a bit less enjoyable to use than what I was hoping for.

No it doesn’t stay on the whole time...it auto dims / auto sleeps after set periods of time

I know this is old technology now but they were on sale so I bought one in April 2024 to try. Short story - I returned it the next day. This unit takes forever to lock on to the pin, often gets it wrong (locking onto the wrong thing) and has a screen that gets blurry if your eye isn't in exactly the right place. I'm a Garmin lover. I've spent thousands on their GPS units, golf watches and bike computers. But this device shouldn't be on the market any more.

You're digging these range finders huh? They are definitely handy out on the course. Ive always wondered if the watch would just be easier though, I'm so shaky with those things sometimes I have a hard time nailing the flag. Also I'm not good enough to put it within five yards... so there's that too

David Branch By far the Garman I reviewed is the best. But I will be reviewing a new one in a week or so time. It is a budget option. It does the basics well. We will also be giving that one away so make sure to comment on the video to enter to win.

You've got the Z82 and the S62, and you said you'd go with the Z82 over the watch. "It does everything the watch does and more," but does it? The watch tracks your shots and ask which clubs you used. After 5 rounds it recommends clubs. What do you think about that? Less important b/c you've been playing 30 years? Or was that feature inaccurate? I have a Z80. Want to get rid of it and am torn b/w the Z82 and the S62.

Great question. Both are fantastic. I would choose the z82 personally because I am more concerned with pinpoint accuracy. You only get that with a rangefinder. With the watch, it’s more of a 3 yard or so approximation. That said, if I was traveling more (like I used to before CoVid), the watch would be the more useful of the two. That’s because when playing new courses, that caddie feature would be awesome to have. It’s also so light weight and easy to travel with.

@@LetsPlayThru I am sorry sir but there is no way only a 3 yard accuracy can matter...Maybe the top 100 tour pro's are that good but no one else...and most weeks they are not that good. Answer honestly ...do you hit more than 9 greens in regulation?

Dave John it does matter to me. 3 yards in both directions of the pin is a 6 yard variable or 18 feet. That’s the difference between a 2 footer and a 20 footer for instance. I’m a 6 handicap and I can tell you from experience that it can shave 2+ strokes per round, and that’s the difference between winning a club tourney and finishing 3rd or 4th.

Lets Play Thru Golf Travel Show Thanks for the response. I bought the Z82, but as I was waiting for it to be brought up, I was playing with a Nikon Coolshot Pro Stabilized. Not only is that thing soooooo much faster than the Z82 in distance calculation, but I felt like the stabilization was at least 3x as effective. I've been using my Z82 but I keep thinking about that Nikon! I've got 90 days to fiddle with the Z82, but that Nikon despite having fewer feature did both core rangefinder features remarkably better.

rhitrix Nikon def makes some nice and very accurate rangefinders. Completely different category than the Z82 in terms of features though. In the end a product needs to work for you and your needs. If Nikon does that and it saves a few bucks that is great or if you want some extras like flag seeker, course maps, wind, scoring, etc the Garmin is the one.

I absolutely love it. It’s with me every single round. It’s 100% accurate. I’m fairly certain the reason it’s off slightly in this video is because I chose the wrong nine, (we have 3 nines at my club). Two have a starting hole that is similar in length. Would account for the discrepancy.

Distance was spot to the flag on but the map showed the wrong distance to the front and back of the green. That’s because I chose the wrong hole - user error.

12.05 mins Flag 376 yards. Front of Green 381. Back 398. So the flag is 5 yards short of the green???!!! I don't think its that accurate if that is correct!!

Robert Amantea it’s tough for sure. I’d say if you need the fitness features and want to track club performance data, then go s62. If you’re looking for more accuracy on distance and don’t need the other data, the z82 is the way to go.

Looks amazing EXCEPT it uses a rechargeable battery that is NOT replaceable. I checked with Garmin and when it gives out, and remember it only has a 1-year warranty, they will give you a refurbished one for another $210. I REALLY wanted this thing, but a $600 disposable rangefinder is crazy. If it had a replaceable battery, I'd already have one in my bag!

So that is for the view lighting and the electronics is with the nonreplaceable rechargeable battery. So two separate batteries. Doubt the electronics rechargeable will go bad for several years.

That was user error. Distance to the pin was correct. I chose the wrong 9, we have three at my club

Ok…just finished using this thing for a full round…I’d give it a C+. First, it’s slow. When you pull it out, the screen is off, so you need to click the button to get it to turn on…then, it is verrrrrry slow to lock onto the pin. No stabilization at this price is not a plus. The view through the viewfinder is pretty mediocre. I use a mirrorless camera (Cannon R5) that uses similar technology, and it’s 100x better than this. Not crisp despite the technology in it. It should be better. In the video when you thought you locked the pin at 376, you actually sited something else as the front of the green was 381, so unless the flag was off the green, that wasn’t a flag lock. For this price, I expected a lot more. Last but not least, the case is terrible. Not very user friendly when trying to use it on the course. It’s going back…next up the R1 and SL2…will test those this week…

Awful rangefinder because - usb charging needed, which is an absolute pain. The screen is colour, but of such poor quality you cannot see balls on the green. The pin locking is extremely shaky, and picking up the pin is very difficult. The GPS is sometimes uesless, as if you hit offline too close to another hole, it forgets which hole you are actually playing and switches to the hole it thinks you are closer to Then all you have is the very shaky distance e to pin, if it van pick up the flag, with no F,M,B..The good parts - you get front middle back and distances to hazards. I am getting rid of mine after about 2 months and going back to Bushnell. Rubbish product.
