In this video I am going to share with you everything you need to know to get started on Garmin's Basecamp, the only tool you will need for your off road motorcycle adventures!
With this you can create and edit gps or gpx tracks (on road or off road) and export them to your gps device.
I've also made a video teaching you what apps to use in order to find and follow these GPX tracks on your mobile/android/iphone and use it on your bike:

Great tutorial! You do an excellent job explaining! Basecamp is the piece of software I was looking for to combine with Google My Maps and Wikiloc to plan my tracks. Many many thanks. Regards from Córdoba, Argentina. Javier

very helpful tutorial ! thanks a lot ! I've had issues tranferring gpx files (made on fatmap or downloaded from wikiloc) on my Garmin as it somehow damaged the device's software. Thanks to you, I now know i can just install my gpx directly on the basecamp to i can smoothly transfer it to the device. You are a life saver ! Many thanks & greetings from Morocco :)

Hello my friend. I am currently watching your videos from start to now. Came across your videos due to having the same bike, the trusty but heavy XT660R. I have used base camp for a few years now and I've hated it because I find it hard work. Hard work because I didn't understand how to use it, but this video has helped a lot, thank you. I have saved it to my favourites for reference in the future. Good luck with growing the channel. I find it interesting, informative and you are a genuine likable funny guy. Your Mrs is kinda cute too 😉. All the best fella. Take care.

Yeah Basecamp takes a while before it becomes really really easy to use. One thing I didnt mention is that right clicking on the map or something de-selects the tool you have previously selected. It saves some time ;) The XT is indeed a great bike, and for now I am keeping the 2, although it doesnt make much sense to have 2 bikes that are so similar. If you ever come to Portugal give me a shout ;)

Hi Diogo, great tutorial, thanks for sharing. A question if I may: how to export from Basecamp to a Garmin GPS a track and its embbeded waypoints? I've tried multiple options but haven't been able to succeed. When I'm navigating my GPS , I'd like to see on the GSP screen the waypoints to alert me that I shouldn't miss a point I've marked when creating the route (a fishing spot, a bridge, a water fall, a petrol station, . . . . ). Many thanks. Pedro

Excellent video. Interesting that you use tracks rather than routes, though. Same same but different. Routes are definitely a bit more troublesome to create in my experience but once mastered, you can convert it to a track. These will keep you smack bang on the paths, roads etc (as long as you are using a routable map) rather than going from one point directly to another in straight lines, regardless of the twists in the paths and roads.

Well i've been using basecamp for years now, and only recently I got a "routable map", so I never had the chance of using routes for off-road.. so I became very good using tracks. Because I have a lot of experience, I can make educated guesses on the difficulty of the track, presence of gates and human activity, swampy areas, sandy areas, etc etc just by looking at the map, so I feel that the tracks done "by hand" turn out to be much better (more interesting yet fail proof) than the ones auto-generated (that either feel too generic and easy, or sometimes a complete mess). But both ways work of course :D Thank you for watching and commenting!

Time saving tip: If you're using a routable map, you can create a 'route' much faster than a 'track'. Then convert the route to track after and delete the route, because routes suck offroad. It's a lot less clicking and the only thing you gotta do first, is click on the little car and set 'mountainbike' or 'dirtbike' as routing preference..

Hey, good tip! I think I tried that before and didnt work properly for me. Maybe the map wasn't updated or something. I will try your suggestion!

@@OFFroadOFFcourse New to Basecamp but I just tried it and it didn't work for me either. It sends you back out to the nearest road/highway/interstate and circles back to the exit point of the road you are riding now. It shouldn't be this hard but it is i guess.
@OFFroadOFFcourse
@OFFroadOFFcourse Жыл бұрын
@@mikebrowne4028 Yeah thats what happens to me...it forces you to add "waypoints" so close to eachother (to avoid getting re-routed to wrong places) that you might as well ignore the routing option altogether and just work with tracks (adding waypoints 1 by 1). At least its predictable :/

@@OFFroadOFFcourse Exactly. might as well do it manually even though it is much much more time consuming. Still learning though
