@ChrisCapoccia4 жыл бұрын
Definitely recommend the 530 for power meter users. I ride with hr monitor and powertap hub. Every ride the 530 is calculating Vo2max, lactate threshold, FTP, recovery time and maybe some other stats. For MTB, it does some calculations about grit, flow, jump distance and hang time. I've heard that the accuracy of the jump calculations is lackluster, but I haven't tried it out

@CanIHasThisName5 жыл бұрын
If you look at the chart, each jump also states how fast he was moving through the air. At 20mph you're going roughly at the speed of 29ft/s so yes, you'll cover that distance in a very short time.

@JayMarroquin4 жыл бұрын
I spoke to Garmin about this as well. When riding in dense areas off-road, you might lose the GPS signal. Even without the speed sensor, the unit will determine the speed without a GPS signal. It will just a average the speed based on distance traveled over time when the GPS signal is reaquired. The sensor however would log the exact detailed speed while out of GPS range so it would be more accurate.

I was about to buy the 130. But have concerns about the battery life. Now comes the 530 and I wonder if he would not be the better choice. To navigate I have used the Oregon 600 so far. I have a 130, how much battery life do you need?

@@ssc280 Well you just read 6 hours coupled with sensors and smartphone. That would not be enough for me. The battery will not get better over time.
@ssc2805 жыл бұрын
Rainer Decker I don’t have a ton of experience with the sensors
@CanIHasThisName5 жыл бұрын
I was also considering the 130 but the actual battery life is putting me off. So I'm inclined to buy the 530 because of the better battery life, built-in compass and overall better features. Especially since the runtime can be extended beyond 20 hours using battery saving features during a ride. Realistically, I don't need to be looking at the screen all the time, in fact i rarely do look at the screen when not navigating. The 530 isn't THAT much more expensive, especially given the amount of extra features and much better mapping capabilities. A compass is great when navigating trails and being able to plan routes in the device gives you more choice in terms of extending your ride beyond the original plans (or cutting it shorter when needed). What I haven't been able to determine is whether people reporting around 6 hours of batter life are using GPS+Glonnass/galileo, or just GPS. Because my experience with another device (Garmin Instinct) was that just GPS could get you 14+ hours of battery life easily, while turning on Glonass would cut more than half of that away.
@ssc2805 жыл бұрын
The 130 has a compass

@Des, where were you riding when it picked up the jump data you showed in Garmin connect? It looks like you averaged 19.6 ft / 6 m per jump with a longest of 31 ft / 9.3 m. That seems unlikely, do you think it's accurate?
@DesFit5 жыл бұрын
I'm still doing more testing on it before I can say whether or not it's accurate but here's some info on the jumps at Erie Singletrack. The first jump that you see in the intro, which is one of the shorter ones, is about 11 feet from tip to tip, but then add a bit more distance since you're landing on the back side of the jump. The longest two jumps on that same line are about 20-22 feet long from tip to tip, again, adding a bit more distance for landing on the back side. Then add the variable of if I did or did not overshoot the landing ;) I have more testing to do plus I have some additional questions for Garmin in regards to how this data is being collected and measured but I'll have all of that good stuff in the final review.
@eric30075 жыл бұрын
DesFit when you say tip to tip, you mean base to base of the table? Or were they doubles? Looking at that footage, it doesn’t look 11 feet long but video is always deceiving. Either way nice shredding. Never knew you were a good rider jumping and all! I first found you with Apple Watch reviews ;)

@DesFit If I have a garmin Fenix 6, which also has all of these metrics baked in, is the Edge 530 worth the purchase? I tend to mount my watch on the handlebars whilst using a chest strap hr monitor. Thinking of doing more structured workouts outside and only have a dumb trainer.
@DesFit2 жыл бұрын
You're correct - it's basically the same functions as your Fenix. It may just come down to convenience and usability having the additional device. For workouts though, the Edge would probably be easier to use due to the larger screen.
@pierreviljoen51832 жыл бұрын
@@DesFit Thanks for the reply, I made the purchase. Looking at your video now again, what mount do you use on your mtb, since the out front mount supplied will be used on my road bike and the small o-ring mount with the 530 can't fit on my shorter stem (even with the spacer). I don't want to mount it to the side and prefer the more "clean" look. Thanks again.

Sorry, missed your original comment. The ROC 12.0 is running a lot more in the background so this isn’t too surprising.
@CanIHasThisName5 жыл бұрын
@@DesFit No problem, I was almost certainly going to buy the unit anyways :) But to be honest the ROX 12 doesn't really have that much more going on that the 530 doesn't.
