Well done, mike. I think you just helped me make up my mind to include this in my upcoming avionics upgrade.

Thank you! Just upgraded to WAAS units with a Flight Stream 210 and wanted this exact rundown. :)

You’re welcome. Glad it could help.

Yep. As explained the 430 is my sandbox so to speak so we can preview the flight plan before sending to the primary nav 530 unit.

Nice work Mike. Just having mine put in my F33A. Also a Foreflight user so should save some time and make it easier to program the 530 with complex plans. I think you said the FlightStream 210 also has GPS. Maybe you meant your Garmin GNS430's GPS position is sent back down via the FlightStream 210? I'm also getting a Garmin 345 transponder, so will get traffic and weather to the iPad as well.

Marty Mitchell you are correct. After digging into the manual, it has its own GPS but when coupled to the 430 it draws GPS data from that unit. It works really good in flight. When you load an approach from the iPad to the panel it assigns waypoints to the approach. My Icarus unit then calls out the waypoints instead of the actual Fix identifier. Another reason to load and activate the approach from the 430. Your going to really like the upgrade. Just need to work the iPad into your Checklist flow.

Love my Flightstream with my GTX 345 and 530W. However the Bluetooth connection to my iPad mini and iPhone seems a bit fickle at times and I have to turn Bluetooth on and off to get the panel icon to show on the iPad. I have even had to delete from the 530 and re-pair the devices. I talked with Garmin and they seemed familiar with the glitch. Absolute magic when they are all talking, panel, iPad, iPhone. Frustrating when glitchy. Once the panel icon shows on the iPad you are gold...

Nice video. How come you have 2 transponders in your aircraft? Just wondering.
@rosspipelines16 жыл бұрын
vadermike777 i have two because when flying in class A airspace you are required to have a transponder. The second one is Insurance in case the primary fails. Most of the planes I know of have two.
@rosspipelines16 жыл бұрын
vadermike777 we often fly in class A and a transponder is required equipment. If you have a issue with one unit you can activate the standby and Not have to descend.

Is your panel 430/530 are the W ones or the regular 430/530 ? How do you connect the 2 units together ? What do I need to do that ?
@rosspipelines12 жыл бұрын
They are WAAS model units and they talk to each other because the two units are connected by a serial connection. Talk to your Avionics guy about making that connection. It has to also be enabled in the setup configuration menu.

Interesting. Why do you have a 430, 530 and an Avidyne? Any reason other than just multiple backups?
@rosspipelines15 жыл бұрын
California avi8tor the Avidyne runs my Onboard Radar and XM weather, the 430 is my sandbox unit and backup, the 530 is the main navigator and traffic display.

Nice video! Question, I was told if you changed the flightplan in foreflight, you could not update it. Is this true?
@rosspipelines12 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that you can change it but it may not load as expected. While in flight I change my flight plan on the 530 and it will send the new change back to the iPad. Unless they give you a really lengthy reroute I believe it best to stick with a reroute or new waypoint the traditional method.

If I have a 430W and Garmin 33es for ADSB Out, can I install 210 and use it same time I'm using stratus if I don't have the 345? I would use bluetooth for FS and then wifi for Stratus so both can connect same time?
@rosspipelines13 жыл бұрын
Jason Lewis I use the scout which is a WiFi unit for getting ADS-B in information and weather and traffic. My ForeFlight talks nicely with the 430W through Bluetooth.an update to ForeFlight now enables pilots to use their iPhone to upload plans to the panel. That was previously only something that could be fine with the iPad.

You can skip the flight stream 210 and upload flight plan to 430w through phone and foreflight?! If so that saves $1200 on my panel. Are you saying not to do FS?
@rosspipelines13 жыл бұрын
Jason Lewis you still need the FS210 to interface with the GNS units. Just mentioning that you can now use your phone to upload flight plans to the panel.
