Great video, very informative. My plane is in the avionics shop right now getting a dual G5 system to eliminate vacuum failure problems as well as electrical system failure. It's a relatively inexpensive insurance policy for hard IFR and or night flying

I am doing a similar installation in my Cherokee 6 - GTX-345, 430W, and Flightstream 210. I spoke with the folks at Garmin technical support regarding this configuration. They told me the Flightstream 210 ahrs would be used in this configuration. The bluetooth interface and ahrs in the GTX-345 would be disabled. The person told me the advantage of the 210 ahrs is, as you showed in your video, you can reset it if it is off using Garmin Pilot. They told me if the GTX-345 ahrs was off, it would have to be corrected by the avionics shop. I don't know who is correct, your avionics person or the Garmin technical support rep regarding the two ahrs units. I noticed you did not install an OAT sensor into the GTX-345. I have been thinking about doing that but I have not done so at this point. Thank you for producing this video.

Great video. You're right about the 480. I wish they hadn't discontinued it - a far superior unit.

Thank you. I have warmed up to the GNS530 especially with the FS210 is a very capable combo.

My cellular iPad has built-in GPS. Makes the Stratus unnecessary in an emergency situation if you have some kind of standby attitude like a G5 (which apparently also has a built-in GPS??).

Very informative and useful. I will be doing a similar installation on my A36. I have G530W + G796 + iPad Foreflight (almost identical to yours) my question is, if we install GTX-345 do I need to install Flight Stream 210 as well? I thought 345 was builtin Flight Stream?? Thank you. Tony
@BonanzaBart6 жыл бұрын
Tony Varol Unfortunately GTX345 does not include wireless flight plan transfer capability to/from GNS530 so if you want it you need FS210.

Informative video. Have similar setup in my F33A but have my 796 mounted on my yoke. I noticed your 796 is mounted off your radio stack. I really like your setup. Who makes the mount are you using?
@BonanzaBart5 жыл бұрын
ARKON Satellite Radio Mount with Drill Base for Sirius XM from Amazon is the mount I used. Lightweight and compact. Works great.

Do you have GPSS roll steering for auto pilot? Just wondering if you have and your thoughts.... I'm considering GDC-31 for my 530/430 King 150 setup
@BonanzaBart7 жыл бұрын
Hello Jose, I do NOT have a GPSS. I have the good old KFC200 which, IMHO, is one of the best autopilots from the "vintage" area. Very smooth and built like a tank. I do not find lack of GPSS a big deal. It makes sense for me to be in NAV or APPCH mode when the GPS is driving the autopilot and it is natural for me to switch to HDG mode if I want to control the autopilot. Moving the CRS during course change is no big deal as I get alerts from GNS530 and also annunciator light. To me, the way this works now is logical and intuitive.

Thanks for posting. Very informative and useful. Question: If you had a complete electrical failure which you refer to you, wouldn't you then lose power to your 210 so you wouldn't have your AHRS and Map functions available on your yoke mounted iPad....or am I missing something?
@BonanzaBart6 жыл бұрын
iveywin Yes of course the FS210 would be dead but that’s why I have the Stratus 2S mounted on the glare shield. It has built-in battery and has own AHRS. This way I have a completely independent backup system with own power. The Stratus 2S is getting charged all the time so it’s always fully charged and ready.

Thank you very, very much for your post! I am struggling with an almost identical situation and have been strongly considering the 345 with my 530W. Did you even consider the L3 NGT-9000? If so, what took it out of contention?
@BonanzaBart7 жыл бұрын
I did not consider the L3 to be honest as I wanted to standardize on Garmin. In addition, I like having physical buttons better vs touch capability and the display on the transponder.
@almostthor7 жыл бұрын
Makes sense. I hadn't considered the FS210 in this context so that plus the Stratus and 345 is indeed a very compelling redundancy solution that I will have to check out. Enjoy your new capabilities and fly safe.

Hi Flight - I'm local (KGEZ) and wanted to hear your thoughts on doing a Mooney M20J with Pristine Aircraft. I have watched your videos over the past year and appreciate all the work making them.

Hey Pete. I am happy with what I've got. Certainly they have to make money so you pay for the convenience of someone doing project management. I think Matt is an honest businessman. Good luck! If you want to chat more, swing by Metro sometime.

Very informative video. If you have a GTX345 and FC210, do both connect to your iPad with Bluetooth? If so, Can your iPad be connected to both at once, or just one at a time? Reason I ask is weather and traffic to the iPad come from the GTX345 but flight plan uploading and downloading are between the FC210, so how does all that work? PS, would have been fine without any music, don't mind the sound of your avionics cooling fan.
@BonanzaBart6 жыл бұрын
Marty Mitchell You can connect to both simultaneously but you shouldn’t and why would you anyway? I have BT disabled on GTX345 and only connect to FS210. The weather and traffic flows from GTX345 to FS210 via hardwired connection.
@MartyMitchell926606 жыл бұрын
I agree. In talking with my avionics shop, he explained the same. I believe your standby Stratus 2s connects to your iPad via wifi, but bluetooth is used for your connection to FlightStream. Do you have to take care that they aren't both connected as the same time? Once you have an emergency in IMC, how do you plan to calibrate the Stratus 2's AHRS? How will you know when to press CALIBRATE?
@BonanzaBart6 жыл бұрын
Good question. The safest way to do this is to connect iPad to Stratus 2S during pre-flight check (run-up) so the AHARS info comes from Stratus 2S. That way, if the electrical systems takes a dump, you will not have to do anything. Just keep on trucking. Now, my experience with Stratus 2S is that once you calibrate it, you typically do not have to recalibrate it every flight. Keep in mind that I have my 2S mounted on top of glareshield and I do not move it so calibration is not required. It is also wired up to USB plug so it is always charged up 100%.
@MartyMitchell926606 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good plan. Hope it works. Might be good to test that. Calibrate your Foreflight to your Stratus 2S, then to your FlightStream 210, fly your plane, then while in flight, disconnect iPad's BlueTooth, switch over to Stratus 2S Wifi, and check calibration. My guess is it will be off (from practice flights with mine). Let me know what you discover.

What are you using to run power to your stratus and iPad? We currently fly a TB10. We love it but would love to own an a36 one day. You have a beautiful plane
@BonanzaBart6 жыл бұрын
I use a cigarette power adapter with two USB outputs: one goes to iPad and 2nd one goes to Stratus. I owned TB20 and have some time in TB10 - these are nice planes!

I watched your TB20 videos, it was a very nice plane! Enjoy your channel, hope you continue to make videos. That is a great looking bonanza.

If I have a 430W and Garmin 330es for ADSB Out, can I install 210 and use it same time I'm using stratus if I don't have the 345? I would use bluetooth for FS and then wifi for Stratus so both can connect same time? I don't want to have to disconnect foreflight from Stratus ADSB traffic in to be able to use flightstream 210.
@BonanzaBart3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do this. I have Stratus 2S and verified that what you propose is easily doable.
@JourneywithJLew3 жыл бұрын
Someone said foreflight can update 430w through your phone now and don’t need to install flightstream to upload plans to 430w?
@grillingwithwoos Жыл бұрын
I have a similar setup on my Mooney except I have dual GI275 with a 530W and same transponder as you. Been tossing the idea of upgrading to a 650 or 750 for the sole purpose of having the ability to load airways but watching your video, it’s really making it hard to justify if the flight stream works like you demonstrated. Can you give an update after using it for a few years? Any issues with it?
@BonanzaBart Жыл бұрын
If you are like me where you do most of your flight planning/changes on the ForeFlight, this GNS530W/FS210 combo is just as capable as the 750 (which I also use). I have not seen any issues with my set-up in 6 years of operation.

So how did you figure out the degrees of yaw correction to put into the 345's AHRS?

Beech service manual. The panel is canted 8 degrees towards pilot.
