Hi guys, yeah, I'm also curious on compare FR 955 vs Epix 2. That's why I haven't go for Epix 2 yet and waited for new FR 955 :). For me, functionality is the most important and comfort on the wrist as I'm used to track my sleep and wear it during my sleep. That's why I would prefer a bit more FR955 but I'm looking forward to seeing your compare. Thanks

An AMOLED version for an extra $100 would have been the winner (for me). Hard to decide between the lighter/cheaper 955 or the better screen of the Epix.
@StephenAndrichuk
@StephenAndrichuk 2 жыл бұрын
$100 for Amoled would be a no brainer, but in reality the Epix is double the price. I cancelled my Epix order (which had been on hold for 30 days due to no stock) for the 955 (only took 1 day to process). I saw a picture someone took of their epix screen while on their wrist an hour after my 955 arrived and I was honestly slightly disappointed with my purchase, but for double the price, I couldn't justify it. Guess it just depends if you have money to spare. The 955 is surprisingly light though.
@pmfahey
@pmfahey 2 жыл бұрын
Given that you need to wear the watch 24/7 to fully take advantage of the new training/recovery metrics, the lighter 955 may make more sense...even with a lower quality screen.

Really interested how maps perform on drag. There have been reports where dragging the map to the right would trigger the watch to jump out of map mode into the navigational items of the watch. If this is true, I hope it could be fixed with a soon to come update cause a bug like this would be annoying mid run

17:35 - this is rather worrying...the Venu 2 that uses the same sensor is perfect for steady runs and really close for intervals so I wonder if the format of the 955 and the way it sits on the wrist isn't getting in the way of the accuracy...That's one of the reasons I sent back the Epix and went for the V2 as I couldn't do without the great screen (after many Garmin watches since the 201 up to the 935). It's great to no longer have to bother about using a chest strap.

It's a shame they never made running power native to the wrist and / or did it via updated firmware to allow Fenix 6 and above get similar also, Apple Watch on WatchOS 9 have announced running power / interval / create own workouts / alerts so it's a shame Garmin haven't. Although would be nice to see them work with Stryd to allow pairing of their third party sensor utilise the native part instead of just hrm pro or pod. The daily readiness / hrv status is probably only thing I like on this over what my fenix 6 sapphire does.

Interesting review! After several weeks of using my 955 I noticed that even if the barometric pressure decrease, watchface barometer trend arrow does not change... For example, this morning (08/50) pressure was 1009.4 mbar. After about 5 hours (13/55) pressure decreased to 1005.2 mbar but barometer trend arrow is still flat... The barometer plot is set to 6-Hour option. Does anyone know how much amount of pressure is needed and in how much time for make the arrow change direction? Any info would be appreciated )

@@etbrown94 exactly it’s a different segment than the forerunner. Harmon has too many segments and a product mess. But what you can see thanks to polar and others, ist that they push the 400 dollar sweetspot with multisport now and a lot of features. Sure they will update „higher“ devices but looking at their pricing I would be really angry if I spent hundreds more for slightly more features. Battery and maps are the only outstanding features for a far higher price throughout the different segments

Can I Use a Screen Protector With a Garmin Solar Watch? as it will reduce the solar intensity received by the Power Glass lens.

how would you assess the indoor visibility and at "off angle" of the 955 Solar vs 945. is the 955 Solar hard to see without backlight indoors compared with the 945 (due to the extra layer of the solar glass and touch screen -- there are have been many pictures of this being an issue with the Fenix 7 Solar Sapphire ). thanks for sharing any insights.
@pmfahey
@pmfahey 2 жыл бұрын
Derek, we have the same concern. The 955 bezel is so wide it seems a waste *not* to have the solar ring, but I’d hesitate to do it at the expense of too much clarity…especially since the recovery and readiness features require 24/7 use.
@derekfong987
@derekfong987 2 жыл бұрын
@@pmfahey i'm hoping RunTesters can comment and/or some photos will start appearing on the web. from what i understand, even the touch screen layer reduces visibility. the images from Chase the Summit's review (non-Solar) seem to suggest the non-Solar version is just fine. i'm not so sure as i squint at videos of the solar version. FWIW, the bezel on this watch is the same "width" as the 945LTE, and less than the 945. but i wouldn't mind making use of the solar ring and the extra days/hours added, but if it dramatically affects visibility, i'll save $100 and stick with the wider bezel.
