After six month of flying with panel upgrade I decided to go one step further and add the Garmin G5 ADI with the Gad 13 and GTP 59 OAT probe.
My Turn and Bank indicator failed and instead of over hauling it I opt for the G5 ADI upgrade.

Love Garmin just purchased two of these for my Cessna 150 little pricey but you get what you paid for

I'm looking at adding a G5 as a backup PFD for my 10" Dynon Skyview HDX. The size is perfect; price is fair and the 4-hour backup battery adds huge peace of mind.

Similar to my set up! When flying in NAV mode does your track ever swing a little left then back to the right then back left. It’s subtle but I notice an oscillating continuous shallow turn.. also, where did they put your GAD29B magnetometer?

Nice setup. I was just getting ready to put 2 G-5's and a Garmin GNC355 in my plane. I'm leaning towards the GI 275's instead since it's a little newer technology and the lower screen has a lot more functionality (9 different screens).

Thanks for letting us follow along with your panel upgrades and decisions. I was curious how your set up works with the piper autopilot, will it follow a nav course and shoot an approach as well or just a wing leveler? looking forward to see some more videos. Thanks

This video is older, but I see he never answered your inquiry. My understanding is the Century autopilot will track horizontally if your GPS supports it. 430 650, etc.. With the G5 HSI it should also be able to do GPSS, which anticipates turns. At least that's what my avionics people are telling me. If anyone knows different, let us know!!! Of course it will not give you altitude hold or preselect.

Kyle, great job on your videos... I am enjoying your channel!! After watching this video I purchased the GAD 13 and OAT Probe for my G5's. Can you tell me where the GAD 13 goes when installed? Is it behind the G5's or closer to the magnetometer?

Do you have GPSS (GPS Steering?) If so - does your autopilot work with the G5 as the only attitude indicator?

Hey Kyle. On my dual G5’s I have v speeds programmed and get white, yellow and red arcs. But no green. Do you get green?

In order to get Winds Aloft did you have to install a GMU11 or GAD29? Or you just got it with the Gad13 only?

When you moved your AI to the turn and bank location does it only support the autopilot or is it functional and still requires the vacuum pump.

My AP still runs off vacuum pump. The new GI275 with HRS would solve this issue but I like the G5 bigger screen. Plus the 275 wasn't available back then

I have your same set up, but I’m having an issue with intercepting the final approach course without my Century llB autopilot overshooting it when intercepting. It eventually comes back, but it seems to wait too long for the turn inbound. I have my ADI G5 scaling set to 1 and was told maybe I need to increase it to 2 ? any thoughts?

I am thinking of adding the GAD unit while upgrading with G5s. Are you happy with the extra information you got by adding it on your end ? They are asking an extra $2000 to do it here in Connecticut.

how does that phone mount work in flight? does the phone/mount stay on in turbulence?

Haven't had a problem with it, works great! It's nice to bring up synthetic vision on it or look at extra charts if need be.

I believe the new Garmin GI 275 can drive your legacy autopilot now so off with the old steam Attitude indicator :)

Nope, he needs to retain the original attitude indicator because the autopilot is an attitude based autopilot. The Garmin gear only provides lateral guidance. (Left/Right, vis HDG, GPSS, or NAV)

How do you find the heading bug works with that antique autocontrol AP? We have almost exactly the same setup in our ArcherII - can’t afford to upgrade the AP so keeping the steam AI and piper autocontrol like you did until the vac system dies... is it able to take a HDG command from the G5 HSI?

It works perfect, I feel spoiled now! My old autocontrol will wing rocket ever so lightly but I have adjusted most of it out within the potentiometer settings. I would love to go with the gfc500 but hand flying altitude for now has not been hard. Helps to have plane trimmed correctly.

I switched the source over to VLOC on the HSI and then let it follow the localizer. The G5 ADI and HSI bring up the CDI vertical and horizontal approach guides just like the GPS LPV guidence. I'll try doing a video on that sometime.

I noticed a setting for pitch in the regular menu not the maintenance menu. Is this because you have it in Experimental mode?

Yes, pitch offset was enabled on mine. Called shop and walked me through disabling it. Certified aircraft is not suppose to have pitch offset according to Garmin.
