This model is best used for driving paved or marked roads. If you are driving off road the unit may be suitable for you. You will be able to get a general direction back to marked roads to get back home. I would highly advise against hiking with it.

The reset button under the Bezel most likely wont fix the problem you are having with the GPS unit. It was intended for when your unit freezes up, you can then reboot the unit. I suggest trying a firmware update to see if that helps. Most GPS units only last around 3 years do to the life of the battery. If the problem still continues you may want to look at a new unit with similar features to the ones you likes in the C series.

Great little unit I have had one for years traeled the continent with it would not be without it now. but of late it has been lossing signal for no reason is it the earths tile and you never mentioned the reset button under the pop of gray front. Cheers Pete
