Hi, yes I think the software is the same for all regions, but the maps is different.

You need to get Garmin Mapsource from Garmin, they come in installable DVD disk or downloadable file from Garmin's website. They charge the same price for installable Mapsource as they do for Map images on SD cards. You can also get the Mapsource free from some websites, but I don't recommend it because most of them are full of viruses.

You can get free maps for open street maps which is open source software for older Garmin devices. But if you want the original Garmin Maps you can still put it on you old devices but you have to pick a smaller regions and your maps must be PC installable map not the map image.

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 I downloaded the US maps to a 2GB SD card from the link you provided, but when inserted into the C320, it says 'please use the provided PC software to load maps'. So the SD card is not working.

@@mcello8931 the map must be in the following format G:/garmin/gmapsupp.img the letter G: is the drive letter for SD card reader so it can be any letter

P.S. I've noticed most searches don't yield any results, (i.e. CHASE, STARBUCKS, etc). In addition, when viewing maps, street names aren't displayed normally, they all show up with the first letter and periods after (i.e. M..........) This is regardless of how zoomed in or out I am. Things really seem really off in many ways. What would cause this?

The Garmin StreetPilot C series such as C330/C340/C510/C530/C550 do not support any SD card larger than 2GB. The SD Card can not be SDHC it has to be the normal old school 2GB SD Card. Also the cart needs to be formatted in FAT32 File System not FAT16, exFat, or NTFS

Thanks for your response, but I have more information on this after doing some research. I loaded the 2020.10 mapset on the 8GB FAT32 SD card I'm using, and it worked perfectly (i.e. full street names (no "M........") and CHASE, BEST BUY searchable). Problem is. . . Garmin recently changed the format of their maps using a "mixture of upper and lower case letters", which creates the problem I described. The blogger referenced the 2022.25 map release as the last release that utilized the old structure. Trying to get my hands on that or a 2021.10 to see what the newest I can load without issues. Hope this helps others.

Don't tell them what you need it for, just tell them I need Map source PC install-able software so that I can cherry pick different regions to load on my GPS. Tell them that you don't want to overload the GPS with areas that you don't need. If they are still unhelpful then go and get yourself the free Open Source maps

Usually the C320 doesn't have the SD Card slot, in rare occasions a C330 may not have it. In that case, you are stuck with the 1GB internal memory and it can't be expanded.

No you should be able to select individual regions, make sure you are using the select tool on the top of the map page.

Yes you can, but not the entire USA because now the map is way too big for that GPS to handle. So you can only pick 5 or 6 States and install it.

I clicked on your link and the page that loaded specifically states "Download MapSource United States TOPO Basemap Patch" and that I must have the MapSource United States TOPO product. Beneath that there is a small download button for a 2.2 MB file. Beneath that there is a large download button for a 57.05 MB file. Is it possible that the patch only refers to the small file and the large file is the actual application? I suspect that will be the case, so I will download the large file to my PC. Your video shows transferring selected parts of the map to an SD card, which seems to be a micro sd card loaded into a larger card. Since the capacity of the device itself is about a gigabyte, can I load it directly into the Garmin? I have a StreetPilot c530 that I bought about 16 years ago to use in my 2004 Porsche Boxster. OK. That didn't work. I clicked on the large download button and the download terminated saying it could not find the original MapSource file. Apparently it is a patch or update. I need to find where to download the Mapsource file. Your link does not take me there.

I found "US 24k North Central", but it costs $99.99". I can buy a new Nuvi for $104. And I need to have "Garmin Express". I think I will just use "Waze" on my smart phone.

If you want the original Garmin maps, they are not free, but you can download them from Garmin's website. You have to buy the PC install-able maps aka " Map Source Maps". However if you want to go with the third party free maps you can get the free Open Street Maps.

No I don't think it is the map problem, I think you need to upgrade the firmware on the GPS itself using Garmin Web Updater.

@@lpin9365 Yes, first power it ON using the cradle dock, then once it is fully booted to the home screen plug in the USB Port.

That means you downloaded the upgrade version. This is a free software provided by Garmin so you can go to their website and download the full version.

You have to buy Garmin Mapsource installable PC maps not Map SD Cards.

As long as your maps are not locked, you should be OK. However if you try to install a maps that was originally authorized for a different Garmin GPS then it can't be installed on any other Garmin. If you attempt to do that it will give you an error message saying " Can't Unlock Maps" Although there are third party unlocking software that will make the map compatible with any Garmin on some dark web sites, I don't recommend it because they are full of viruses, malware and spyware.

@@joez3832 Yes Garmin sells the maps, but when you are shopping for it make sure to ask for computer uninstallable maps aka " MapSource" , and not SD Card version.

Try updating the firmware no your C330, using Garmin Web Updater software

Ok I did that before I started but no luck. I have another GPS for my motorcycle and it has lifetime maps. When I updated it I also checked the box to install in Basecamp and that is where the current map is kept. After installing Mapsource, it seemed to know where the maps are on my computer and they are all listed as unlocked. But no matter what I try, I get the "cannot unlock" message on the C330...

@@pasolloyd I think the map which you have downloaded is unlocked for one specific GPS only. You need to get a map that is either open source for fully unlocked. Which countries maps do you need ?

Garmin StreetPilot C330 does not support TTS " Text To Speech" The next model which is StreetPilot C340 does support that.

This means the amps unlock files have gotten deleted or corrupt, the solution is to re download Genuine Garmin maps on to the unit by user GarminMapUpdater

You need to use Garmin Web Updater to update the firmware first, then let it sit outside for 15 minutes to get the latest GPS fix.

Hi, you must use a 2GB SD Card and put it on the SD Card Slot of your GPS. Make sure the SD Card is no more than 2GB because the GPS will not support anything larger.

For example just the map of Paris and nothing more, after that you can put more maps on the SD Card. Make Sure The SD Card is a 2GB Card and not bigger. This GPS cannot see anything larger than 2GB

Thank you, and you can get the old Map source from GPS Forums in Europe, they are free. Just type GPS Forums on google. Also be careful that all the websites that offer free software they are full of spyware, adware, and viruses. So make sure to do it on a computer with a good antivirus software, or a computer that is not too important, or you don't use mainly. This way in case you get some unwanted spyware, you can restore it without any data loss.

The card has to be formated FAT, not FAT32, NTFS, or eFAT. Unfortunately the card limitation for this GPS is only 2GB, it does not support SDHC which is " High Capacity Secure Digital Card". Any card higher than 2GB is SDHC there are very few and rare occasions where you can find a 4GB non SDHC card, and even if you do find them they are very expensive. So the bottom line is to stick with 2GB and split the map on two cards if you want the entire north America

@@TheDoru00 Us an 8GB SD Card because the Nuvi 265W is about 15 Years Old, and it will have compatibility issues reading an SD Card larger than 8GB. You don't have to choose mass storage, the GPS will automatically load all the maps that are on the SD Card. As long as the maps are inside the Garmin Folder on the SD Card, and named correctly with the correct file extension which is gmapsupp.img

TomTom mapping system is not the same as Garmin. So basically you can cherry pick specific regions. However they do offer pre-selected regions that you can buy from them and install in your TomTom. In most cases the cost is way too high compared to that of Garmin. Also in a Garmin your can use Third Party maps where in TomTom you can't.

but the one i have is not supported by tomtom anymore so i can’t buy maps officially from tomtom
