I have one and wear it every day. As someone mentioned, the ballistics alone is a $500+ value when you look at what a Kestrel runs. Add in the maps, the NOD compatibility, the touch screen, ridiculous battery life for such a complex little dude, and just the overall quality of Garmin, and it is well worth it to me. I’ve even used the maps to navigate when traveling recreationally. Pretty damn hard to beat in an all-in-one device on your wrist.

I am using the Tactix 7 Pro. I love it. It is my 24/7 watch. Never needed any other watch now. I am also a normal person. I just like all the features even though I don’t use all of them. The light is so cool and I use it very often daily. Happy with the purchase. This is my first Garmin.

My mans missed the main point of this edition: the AB ballistics calc. Thats what we really wanted to see. Thats where the money goes. Even as a simple prs competitor i imagine its helpful for on the fly matching and corrections. Surely it'd be easier to glance at your wrist than to open up your phone and look so far away from the glass. Hopefully next time you can help touch on that aspect of the watch

The Tactix is the ONLY mdodel that offers STEALTHWATCH, use with NightVision, and Kills the GPS and smartwatch technology to AVOID DETECTION! This can be the difference between life or death for an operator in the soup! So for me, the “STEALTHWATCH” mode, being able to jump at zero dark thirty using nods and have this pre-programed waypoints on the uploaded map to navigate the landing all in pitch black....this is the seperation factor from the other models.

If you are looking at this watch then price isn’t really a consideration. But let me tell you. For the price, this thing is nearly bullet proof. Not a very fancy watch the the display isn’t AMOLED so not super bright. But if you want a do all watch that can be bomb proof then this takes the cake. First day I wore this watch, I banged my wrist on the edge of a metal cabinet. I thought I crack the screen on day one. Look to my surprise, nothing on the watch. I work in LE and i have even fought people wearing this watch. A few scuff marks around the frame, one very light scuff on the glass. Honestly you wouldn’t notice it unless I pointed it out lol. Former USMC and if you know us, we break everything. Still, this watch is holding up strong. Very happy with the purchase.

Worth every cent. I switched from the Delta mainly for the touch functionality on the map screen - makes life so much easier. Everywhere else I disabled touch. I wear it 24/7, I run every day for 45 to 90min, I swim open water, I wear it when being in the mountains whether summer or winter. And for any other sport I do. Battery lasts for about 20-25 days. I love it. I would change to the Tactix 8 AMOLED if - and only if - the battery would last almost as long as it does now.

I have a garmin instinct solar 1 generation and never needed another watch. Problem is i just lost it and i cant find it so i will buy a new one. Now i am in between Instinct 2x Solar and this one, and the only reason I might get the tactix pro is because of maps. You might not need it, but I do a lot of 2-3-4 days hiking in mountains above 10 thousand feet / 3000 meters high, and even though the instinct solar was always good enough for me, i always had to rely in the iPhone GPS offline maps to find other routes or just to check up my position on the wilderness. Having a touchscreen gps map included in the watch will save me battery on my phone, that can now be used for emergency only. Edit: nevermind,i just found it. Not buying any more extra shit. Hahahah

I view this as a low priority third tier redundancy. My phone does all of this. The compass, map, gos, and other gear in my pack does all of this. This is a 3rd level of redundancy. “In case everything else was unavailable”. For that purpose, it’s pretty cool. But, as far as allocating funds goes, it would also be deprioritized until I was at the point where all my other 1st and 2nd tier requirements were met.

In my opinion, this is the best watch of the whole Garmin line-up. In terms of styling, it's the numbered watch bezel that tops it off. I like that style much better than the Fenix/Epix/Enduro series. Currently I'm using an Instinct 2 solar tactical and that model was mostly a cost decision. I do open water swimming, but also skiing and hiking. The Instinct 2 is fine in the ocean and tracks the swim quite accurately. I'd assume that the Tactix would be at least as good in that regard. I used to sleep track with the Instinct, but stopped, because I find these watches to be too large. I ended up getting a slight rash where the sensor is. Since I stopped wearing it at night, there's been no issue. I miss not knowing the stats, but I could buy the Aura ring if I really wanted those stats back.

Wow, I can see how that touch screen would greatly improve the GPS function of it. I have the Delta and have found it quite useful though I haven't put it through its paces as much as you have. I am pleasantly surprised at how well it takes a beating without looking like it just lost a UFC fight. I think the solar charging works best under normal watch usage vs any of the apps. I find the GPS app to eat battery life. Much of the time I have it in normal operation and find it charging while driving to work in the mornings. Even with workout tracking, I get about a week of extra battery life before I need to actually place it on a charger.

How does it perform under frequent use of NODS in NV mode with regard to bloom and definition from your perspective, and detection from an outward perspective? Kinda dodging the AMOLED version depending on usability with regard to NV (and battery life, which isn't even up for debate). Thanks!
@PreparedAirman
@PreparedAirman 8 ай бұрын
Its still a light producing device regardless of how dim it is. It is very clear when you adjust the focus of the NOD. You can still see it from a distance away. In an urban or room based environment, I would say its fine due to all the cover and concealment around you. But in an open environment, I would still be weary of light projections. If I was in a contested environment, I would still use a poncho to block out the light.

I appreciate the feedback. Regardless, this model still piques my interest over the new AMOLED. Is there a reason you're not running any method of aperture restriction? If it's the ridiculous cost of entry, you can save $500 by snagging yourself another lens cap, grab one of your spent .223 / 556 cases and punch a hole through the center of your cap. Adjust your focus to infinite, and everything from your watch face to the hills out yonder are all razor focused. Solves the same problem you encounter with passive aiming as well, and don't have to give up your position with LEMs. Manul gain is beneficial in bringing back some of what you lose with decreased light input. But unless I'm stargazing with the lady, I can never go back. Killer video, man. You rocked it and sold me on the Tactix 7 Pro. 🤙

Does your screen has any scratches instead of using it so hard ? Do you recommend an screen protector ?
@PreparedAirman

No scratches at all, its sapphire glass. Sapphire glass is pretty much the best watch glass available. I have owned 4 watches in 8 years with sapphire glass and not a single one have ever broke or scratched.

Doesn't sound like you're using the extra features from the Ballistics edition vs. Tactix 7 Pro.
@PreparedAirman
@PreparedAirman 10 ай бұрын
Not very much. I used Ballistics with my Tactix Delta alot in testing and found the Tactix 7 runs the same system. The touch screen is more beneficial. The only way I have found the Ballistics to work extremely well is if you pair your watch to a range Finder and a kestrel giving it real-time data. It's definitely nice to have your range cards built it to a watch but it's not my primary reference.

What do you think about Software Version 13.22 - Backlight Bug? Your backlight always turn on when viewing maps, starting a new GPS activity, etc.. No way to turn backlight completely off.

same. I was thinking about this watch but i heard there are some "issues" that make the watch a bug to use. All of this can be fixed by Garmin with a update yet i do NOT know why they havent done it yet.

Yes your phone isn't nessesary at all. GPS, maps altitude, barometer, elevation, heart rate and alot more features function stand alone even with out service or a cell phone. As long as you have a reasonably clear view of the sky they will all function.

This watch is more expensive that the other models because you are paying a license to a 3rd party company "Applied Ballistics". How do you do a video explaining why this watch cost so much and not mention the real reason. Were you afraid of being de-monetized for talking about the ballistic calculator?

@@PreparedAirman standard is $1100, Pro is $1300, AMOLED is $1400, Pro BALLISTICS $1500 which is the model you speak on in the video and is the only model that includes the Applied Ballistic Elite software for long range shooting. You neglected to mention pretty much any of these things but spoke on the watch being expensive several times. I just don't understand the point of doing the video if you're not going to cover a key factor

I am aware of the difference in models. Next, this is not a comparison video of any of thoes other models..although i mentionen a different generation...this is a review on one specific model. also, the AMOLED edition wasn't released yet when I filmed this video. The Ballistics application is a very deep topic that would take over an hour to explain.This is not a tutorial of "how to use". Realistically, if you are actually into long-range shooting and know what you're doing. You should know to get a Kestrel 5700 elite first. It does more at half the cost and uses the same software.
