Thank you for this honest review, mine just arrived last Friday. I use it as the same as my discontinued Original Vivoactive square faced watch . But this has some added metrics with the fields. I don’t have any of my Garmin cycling computers anymore they broke or were lost off the bike. So far I think the font for the smart phone notifications are smaller....that’s a big negative for me cause that’s one of the main reasons for the purchase. Other the cool style I like, and the format for the activities is different than my older Vivoactive I am used too. I think the Vivoactive is easier to use, and Especially my daily steps feature was large and clear to read and see. Time will tell on the battery life. And I don’t use the activities unless I forget my Leyzyne cycling computer. Mostly I use this as a smart watch connected to my IPhone 📱. Without having purchased or ever had an Apple Watch ! I really am extremely happy with the battery life of my older square Vivoactive, ,,,lasts and beats out the Apple Watch on that. So let’s see how this one is !

Hey guy, thanks you tipped me over to Vivoactive 4. I was already sold on that one but then discovered the Venu SQ so was toying with going the cheaper route but your battery life experience and your final comment comparing them sealed it. Now to decide VA4 or VA4S for my tiny hands. Thanks anyway.

Hi Donovan. I am interested in purchasing one of the many watches you have reviewed. On board music storage, accurate GPS and biometric sensors, and a screen that is easy to read outside during sunny runs are most important features. A lighter watch is a plus, and having a speaker to play music without earpods is a plus but not as important. Any suggestions between the Garmin Venu Sq, Garmin 245, Garmin 3 music, Garmin 4, Amazfit GTR 2, GTS 2, Stratos 3, Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS, or Huawei GT2?

Something to mention about this watch, as well - the screen only stays on for about 3 seconds (at least mine does). I can't even hit the next option when you swipe before it turns off, and you constantly have to process what's on the next screen since it's so small, as you pointed out. I will be returning mine for the Venu.

Yeah, I was honestly getting worried a little with the Pulse Ox, but I'm glad it was just wrong. It's a little concerning, because I wonder how many other people might get worried when theirs is also low on the watch. I've got the Polar Vantage V2 on the way... I'm excited to try my first real Polar watch. I did previously have a Polar M400, but that was quite a while ago and it was definitely a bit of a disappointment for me.

Mine can get as low as 80s on PulseOx 😓 but I think wrist base oximeter is very sensitive to movements, so even if I only track during sleeps, if I move around during the measurements it will give a lower result..🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s great that you get yourself a proper oximeter 👍🏻
@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd almost prefer that they didn't include it if it's not accurate personally. Even when I sleep it's not good for me. It might get as "high" as 93% when I sleep, but still clearly well below the actual pulse ox. Hopefully it is improved in future watches.
@AnirudhBuddhiraju
@AnirudhBuddhiraju 3 жыл бұрын
@@donavonhornbeck I think part of the problem is that it takes the oximetry at intervals where you don't expect it. Say for instance just when you're done with a run/ during a run/ during movement. Rather than an avg Spo2 through the day, could you compare how well it does it on demand? Since that's how Spo2 is generally tracked, under predefined conditions and not at periodic intervals where you might not be in the correct state to have an Spo2 measured.

You can wear a Bluetooth chest strap sensor and pair it with this watch so you don’t have to have the band tight, I have the same watch but wear it loose. The watch is auto set to prioritize to the external sensor.
@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
Do you prefer a chest strap for HR? I actually have a few on the way I will be testing out from Polar, but haven’t ever really felt the need to use one when wrist based HR has been quite reliable for me (though obviously requiring the watch to be tight to my wrist).
@robertp7209
@robertp7209 3 жыл бұрын
@@donavonhornbeck - I want consistency, and I believe the electrical sensor technique is more consistent than optical sensing. I have the polar H10. I ran with an FT4 on one wrist using the Polar H10, the other wrist with the Venu sq on its own optical sensor. When I ran there was a difference and the difference varied, one was higher 2-7 bpm, then when I ran faster with intervals it was lower than the other one. I wanted to use the same H10 on both watches to verify the numbers being the same, both read the same number. I’ve run 5K foot races where the last 1/10 of a mile I would crank it up to full gas - flat out all the way in. My usual finish style. I did this for several races with the FT4 with an old H1. 4 races I maxed at 163 bpm, one I hit 164. I would say if there is an error between reading and true, it’s a consistent, not variable. That’s what matters. My calculated max is 158 so I know I’m in the true ballpark.

The accuracy comment doesn't match the review by The Quantified Scientist. He compares to a Polar chest strap and the Venu SQ lags the heart readings. His Apple Watch comparison to the same chest strap showed that the Apple Watch is very precise with no lag. I'm interested in a Venu SQ and I wonder if a firmware update would fix this.
