GARNET - Montana’s Best Ghost Town

Күн бұрынLike most mining boom towns, Garnet, (named after the semi-precious stones found in the area), saw its fair share of comings and goings. With the post office closing in 1942, and nearly all of the residents leaving, Garnet was added to the list of ghost towns in Montana. Fortunately the Bureau of Land Management stepped in, preserving the last remaining structures ensuring that Garnet remained Montana’s best preserved ghost town.

I think the short ceilings and small doors and windows were more about keeping the places warm in the winter than the size of the occupants. Awesome video. Love you guys!

Absolutely love that they're taking care of the town. Gives you a chance to imagine what life was really like back then. Could almost hear the honky tonk piano .

Garnet is one of my personal favorite ghost towns. Set in deep forest, imagine how hard it was to get around in deep winter snows. Just love the old photos, they tie the past to what we see now. You two work so well together, makes for a great time for us viewers.

That was so interesting. I absolutely love this type of video. Thank you, Andrea for all of your research. It's always so appreciated. It amazes me that people can wander around freely. My dad, while he was in the Air Force, was stationed in Great Falls, MT. for three and a half years. Western MT. is full of mining ghost towns that were fun to discover and explore as a family. This was back in the 70's for us, so not sure how much is left. The vandalism and neglect can take a toll.

@@PinInTheAtlas I appreciate your exploration and documentation of these historical sites. BTW, we were stationed in Colorado Springs afterwards....Colorado has amazing mining and ghost town history. Some of the best I've seen....

@@blw957 we do have quite a lot pinned in CO especially in the springs area. The weather is a biggy as lots of the roads don’t open until June apparently. Steve does struggle with high altitude and then there’s the $. Other explorers have told us it’s quite pricey. But it’s definitely on the list.

It s a gem as far as ghost towns go 😊 As always Steve has to look impressive 😂😊. Your right Andrea,, at night is the best time. You can actually hear sometimes noise as if life is still going on.

Very nice place. With that missing window. I would say the up keep is a little shoddy. People just do not appreciate how special a place like that is.

A nice bit of summer for these cold winter months! Fun explore and video! It's easy see Andrea prefers a man in a kilt and not the college preppy look! I have a hard time imagining the school having a nurse of any kind though. I can remember my grade school with over a thousand students having a nurse, but she also helped run the bookstore and whatever else they needed help with. I had classes in an old 1870s school house and the coat room had an area where problem students were put. Another teacher would come in for a minute to witness a board to bottom exercise and then the student got to sit on a chair for a while and ponder his poor behavior. The tall Victorian ceilings made a really nice echo when the board contacted the butt ... and even though we could not see the paddling ... we heard the results very clearly!

When we were naughty at school we had to stand in the corner facing the wall or outside in the corridor. And wowbetide you if you moved. Off to the headmaster for the slipper!

@@PinInTheAtlas The board paddle was still in fashion during my school years! Some were decorated and quite fancy. They hung inside the teacher's locker and were quite visible when they would get into their locker. I avoided having any contact with one, but I'm sure I was one of the few to be threatened with it ... for being "too quiet"!

We didn’t see the mine workings but there’s a hike you can do (we didn’t have time) maybe that takes you to them. Glad you enjoyed the video.

That was really cool. I noticed that most of the stoves were in poor shape. The bar wasn't the proper place for ladies. Unless they were saloon girls. You would have think there would have been a cemetery not to far away from town. Especially; for being a mining town. Did you know that the first National Park was sign by Lincoln. True story.

I visited Garnet in 1963 before the BLM took over. Saw more collapsed buildings back then. In the 1990's, I had a duplicate set of my photos made and donated them to the BLM museum. Did you happen to see them? One shows my 1956 Chevy Suburban parked "downtown".

Well hello nice to see a 👻 town that you are able to roam around in and at about over 7000 ft leval and green grass and trees .Where there areas that you could see where the mining had taken place ? Well the good thing of being able to walk in the buildings to see how they were built and how people lived and yes the creepyyyyyyy floors .And yes i have been to BODIE CAL. P.S. For about a year I've had some thing to mail to you it seems KZfaq might have eliminated that 🤔⛏️🇺🇸and i do not do paypal at all.

Yes. They have left most everything as it was and are maintaining it. You can even book a stay in one of the miners cabins

Not sure what you mean Irene. People who work for the park service live there in their rigs. Not sure if they live in any of the cabins. A couple of cabins can be rented. Maybe generators for electric

We do our best Sera to film as much B role as possible. As you can imagine we film the scene several times from different angles. Sometimes they just don’t come out on camera. Either too dark, reflections or a host of other things.

You guys should be able to figure out why 80% aren’t subscribing. I have been a subscriber since you crossed paths with Wonder Hussy. Now it appears as though you direct all of your attention towards your patreons. (And a special thanks to our patreons) what about us subscribers that have been here from the start. Seems as though its all about the money now. And gas for Tonto, money. Also when your in a place and you say, oh Wow look at this. and then you walk away and we don’t get to see what your oh wowing about.

Thanks for being a long time subscriber. We do subscriber shout outs in the beginning of our videos, guess you must have missed those. And of course we thank our channel contributors, a lot goes into doing what we do. It is our only source of income and we don’t see how thanking our patrons makes us all about the money, but everyone reads a situation differently.
