Minnesota, December 1997. Early in the 98 season; the ageing Bulls are missing injured Scottie Pippen against the youthful energy of the up and coming Timberwolves led by Stephon Marbury, Kevin Garnett and Tom Gugliotta.

The Marbury video is funny because he starts out saying Jordan is "just another guy" and "a hater," then by the end of the video you can tell that he was so proud to win against him and looks up to him, especially when he started complaining that Jordan wasn't giving enough back. Very sweet.

The Wolves have Jim Peterson former NBA player and 3 time championship coach of the Lynx as their current Analyst. He's considered to be one of the very best commentators in the world regardless of sport. He isn't a homer and calls out the team if they play like shit and compliments other teams players on great plays..I've heard Toronto's team and the same cannot be said. This wasn't even the Wolves Broadcast team anyway because it was a national broadcast game. At this time we had Kevin Harlen who now works nationally broadcast games for NBA,and the NFL and former MN Gopher,#1 pick,and Klay Thompson's father Mychal Thompson as his partner.

Today's NBA still has stars.... So what's missing? That middle class. The Gugliotta's and Kukoc's.
@boogieloo18316 жыл бұрын
meg - exactly. Today's NBA has too many weak smaller players and not enough of the above average Gugliottas and Kukoc's. It's because of the drafting now where they go after athletic guys who can play two positions because their inbetween size but nobody is skilled in any particular area. And all of today's combo guards that can't read defenses to play PG and yet can't play off the ball to play SG well are just small bodies that are athletic but just meh, IMO. But these kid fans love it today because it's like street ball with way too much dribbling. They think this is superior and that they would play that way in the 80's/90's as well as if nobody could handle the ball back then.

Pro Hoops gotten deeper and better in my seemingly unpopular opinion even since this time. Used to be that you almost every NBA not only has 5-6 really effective players, but ther'es many with 9-10. I mean Hansborough was the man in college and is now barely a rotation player. Ppl/even basketball or antionsal suggest todays game is "different" then 80'sand90', but talented teams then are just as good as todays champs. I"m not saying the Bulls aren't still the standard with Scotty/MJ, for youngiins like myself. My dad loves the Celtics. Lakers with Magic/Kareem have lasting luster. Im not sure if they stand up to just the way scouting/ AAU/ competitiveness has changed..Simmons BOB is filling me in a lot of stuff I'll vaguely remember like modern shot clock and 3-pt shyness for years. eversteady. Stern became the commissioner in the 80's. He scored with LARRYvMAGIC, and he should of kept it rolling too but oJ

I h8 ppl saying who don't win champs without who, come on you can cry out this all day long, because every champ team(or a NBA team) has 10-15 man not 1 man. MJ is the GOAT. Chicago Bulls was the best team in 90s. MJ was a part of the team, Pip was another part of the team, but what's the point of using Pippen to deny MJ's greatness?

This Minnesota team could have contended had Gugs and Marbury stayed with KG I think Gugs signed with Phoenix the next year and Marbury was traded a few years later
@libraryham5 жыл бұрын
D Fizzle eh I kinda doubt that. KG was obviously the best player on the team, while Gugliotta was a good support player, and Marbury was 2nd best on the team. The team let Gugliotta go because they wanted to save money to sign the younger Marbury to a bigger deal, and Gugliotta didn't want to play with Marbury any more. Marbury had serious attitude problems at this time. He wanted to be the number 1 player on the team, but KG was obviously the franchise player. Its unfortunate that Marbury and the team had such a bad falling out, because the duo of KG and Marbury, with some more support, could have been so much better, and may have actually contended. Just one of this poor franchise's many failures and blunders.

Lol. Kevin Garnett was a beast in this game, swatting Jordan, stripping him, and busting the big jumper in this face to seal it. Pippen missed this game and his absence is always a predictor of Bulls wins and losses. At this point in his carrier, Jordan had lost a step and could no longer blow by the faster younger more athletic players and relied on the Bulls offense, particularly Pippen, to set him up for chippies. Without Pippen in this game, Jordan was 11-28 from the field this game and could not guard anyone on the Wolves. More interesting is the fact Jordan had just ONE assist and 4 turnovers this game despite Pippens absence, blowing the claim that "Jordan didn't average more assists because Pippen played point forward" to bits. The truth was the Bulls without Pippen were a rather mediocre team, while the Bulls without Jordan were actually a very good, championship level team.

Good win for the Twolves. That team i don't think had EVER been over 500 in a season and finally was shaping up for them. Meanwhile Chicago was going into yet another title defense for 'The Last Dance and started the year bad (for them). They were starting to get into a rhythm, had a much better record than Minnesota and were STILL playing without Pippen. Big win but... they celebrated like they won a playoff series. 😂😂 The next game for both teams? Minnesota were flat and lost to the Celtics. The Bulls were hot and Jordan TORCHED Ray Allen and the young Bucks for almost 50. Jordan had this thing with destroying new 2 guards and he kept it up.
