@@rodneyplayer5483 I currently live in Mainz Bischofsheim. My sister and myself are probably the only people in our family that did not attend or work at Southern University. My grandmother was a professor there for 33 years and we still have several friends of the family that are literally fixtures in administration at SU. My aunt was the Jaguar mascot back in the late 70s and early 80s for the football team. Most everything I did growing up was some way or another connected to Southern University.

@@dwighthayes4738 Wow that sounds fantastic. My family is from northern Louisiana located about 45 minutes north of Shreveport. All my 5 siblings attended S.U. but I attended LSU. I would have much rather grown up in Baton Rouge since it was so very boring in my town. I remember seeing S.U.perform in person for the first time in 75 at the bayou classic. Man I thought I had died and gone to heaven that show was so exciting. These new directors doesn't seem to care about field shows anymore. They seem to concentrate more on battles but the band is still good and consistent. Well I hope to visit Germany some day. Take care.

@@rodneyplayer5483 My mother graduated from Southern but she receiver her masters at LSU and my sister attended LSU and received both her first degree and masters from LSU too. I went to Georgia back in 89 to attend college. Oh trust and believe you did not miss anything not growing up in Baton Rouge. I think all of us at some point or another thought the same thing about where we lived IF you grew up in Louisiana. I too insisted that Baton Rouge was the most boring place on earth. I actually had to leave Baton Rouge to really appreciate it. Now every time I visit it's now become one of the most vibrant and grounding places for me.

Dwight's Hayes is MLK village still there in Mainz just behind the swimbach? I lived there back in the late 70's as a Army brat. Best days of my life!

No. No offense but the SU Band just tries to be loud. The music itself is played poorly. LSU is a better band no doubt. Even when the SU Band played Neck the crowd reacted with the LSU chant for the song.

Robert McCoin that’s where your wrong, that’s marching and that’s swagger, you think it’s loud because half of the notes that southern university hit, the LSU band could never reach that level ever As far as neck, do your research, southern university been playing neck since the 80’s dude. LSU took that and created their own chant which got banned from LSU...so when southern played it the right way the crowed went bananas. when USA Today ranks LSU as the number #1 band in the land then you have my permission to tell them that they are too loud 😂

@@jaquayhills6577 No I am not wrong. I hear what I hear. Swag has nothing to do with playing music. At times when the Southern Band plays you can't even tell if there is a tune. It becomes just noise. I have listened to the SU Band for over 40 years and they distort music by playing loud. That is simply the truth. Oh, and get over the Neck thing. SU does not own the song nor have a copy write on how it is played. The fact is that LSU has made it prominent nationally and is recognized for it. Period.

Jaquay Hills no offense the fact of the matter is SU has soul, flavor, and gets the crowd hyped. Yea musicality is a huge part of it, but without soul LSU is just a square “side-chick” band to their football team.

Floyd Braziel Honestly, I don't care for when colleges play "Torture". We used to play that in jr high back in the 80s and there isn't enough arrangement in it for the collegiate level in my opinion. As far as "Neck" I can dig that. A political song with meaning with nice horn parts. Similar to Cameo's other powerhouse horn piece "Skin I'm In". Southern played it as close to the record as you could get running precise sixteenths all over in their arrangement. Another song many of us ran back in our high school days.

I bet if that crowd knew exactly what Cameo's meaning was they'd never play it again.It was on the same album as Skin.

McDonogh Rahloh "Talking Out The Side Of Your Neck" is from Cameo's "She's Strange" album. "Skin I'm In" is from Cameo's "Machismo" album. One of my all time favorite message songs.
