Learn to knit garter stitch for beginners, this tutorial is worked in full and slowly for beginners to learn. Garter stitch is the easiest beginner stitch pattern because every stitch of every row is knit. So you work across the first row knitting every stitch turn your work and work the next row exactly the same way. This video slows it down and shows you how I knit slowly through 2 rows of garter stitch and what it will look like after a couple inches of knitting. If you would like to learn the difference between Stockinette and Garter you can watch that video here:

I don't know anything when it comes to this stuff, but this made it seem so easy, but I do need help with the Needle what Brand should I use, and what size was used in this video as it's a perfect size.

Hi, a good place to start is to look at the tag on your ball of yarn. It should list a suggested needle size to pair with that yarn. To give an answer now, everyone knits a little differently, but I like a US 8 with medium weight #4 yarn (also called worsted weight). And a US 6 or 7 with DK weight #3 yarn (in this video I am using this size yarn with probably a US 6, but I can't quite remember for sure). As for brands of needles, bamboo is a great material if you are just starting out because the yarn slides easily, but won't slip off the ends too easily. Clover is a good bamboo brand that they sell at big box stores like Joanns. I exclusively use Chiaogoo red lace needles, they are metal and I think only come in circular needles (which can be used to knit things flat or in the round). They're super high quality, sharp tips, perfect cord for circulars and nice and slippery metal needles; I'm not paid by them I just really love their needles. Although I do think bamboo is a good starting material as metal can sometimes be a bit too slippery for beginners; for reference I used bamboo for the first 5-8 years of knitting and then switched to metal. Hope that helps!

How do you know which is which? (front loop vs back loop) 0:32

When the row you're knitting is facing you, the front loop will be facing you, and the back loop will be behind your work. Hope that helps

@@TheBlueMouseKnits I figured it out. I just started two weeks ago. My mistake was instead of putting the need inside the loops I was going between the loops (which was total fail). I got it sorted out now. I made 1 of 2 garter ties. Now to finish the second one!
