@@willowdelosrios4326 No, but neither of them were very happy with what Garth did. He abandoned his wife to go traveling the realms, leaving her and their child to get kidnapped and tortured. He didn't even return to save them, as they were saved by Gull (the sister of Greensleeves) and his wife Lily (not to be confused with Liliana. Two different characters). The second is implied but never elaborated on... Garth's wife seemed to have cheated on him with this noble guy in Benalia, and the implication is that he did something similar with Greensleeves while he was helping her move the soldiers in her army that were stranded by Towser, only to go back to his wife and family when things were all said and done. So, no SA, but he's definitely not a good guy either.

I'd say he isn't a good guy because he destabilizes a city and leaves it to descend into chaos. I want to say the Greensleeves book he abandoned his wife because of PTSD. He does care about his wife and son and works to help get them back and does realize that he was an absent father and husband and gives up most of his magic to Greensleeves(Which arguably gives her a major power boost)

I love it when a commander goes infinite with the kitchen sink. I built a deck with this man that let me effectively machinegun infinite combos at peoples faces. Everything in the deck played into everything else which more often then not took a person out of the game or took everybody out of the game.

My Garth deck is a weird group-hug sorta deck themed around making everyone else make choices. It's got stuff like Fact or Fiction, that background that's like "get some +1/+1 counters but I get protection from you for a turn", Tempt with Discovery, and everyone's favorite choice-maker, Cataclysmic Gearhulk.

One fair thing I think you could do with him is 5-color gates. Not because he does anything crazy with gates, mind you. The main reason why you would use him in that is to Regrowth your ramp spells and generally provide some utility. It's just that none of the 5-color commanders that currently exist really *do* anything for gates, so you mght as well go with Garth because why not.

btw, displacer kitten only triggers with noncreature spells, while he is definitely shenanigans in a can, you can't make infinite shivan dragons with just a haste-maker and a displacer kitten. being able to drop the dragon and instant speed is still nice though and has taken a couple people by surprise in the pods i've played in.

I play Garth as a zookeeper. All the creatures in the deck have to have regular animal types and only 1 type, all the nonland noncreature spells have to be reminiscent of zoo enclosures in some way. Its one of my favorite theme decks I have.

My Garth deck is a silver-bordered Dice-rolling deck, in which Garth plays the role of extra interaction and recovery while I visit Attractions, roll dice, and dig for things that like me rolling dice in one of several potential combos of bizarre randomness. Also, having a random Lotus makes things like Attempted Murder much nicer.

Pro-tip: do not start in 5-colour. It'll melt your brain because you have to look at exactly 6 million cards and then decide which 99 to pick. Start in mono colour, then you only need to sift through 1 million before you make any decisions. Then you can gradually introduce one more colour at a time.

Got a similar budget Garth Gates list planned for the same reasons. No crimes, only ramp and draw. Sure, I might Braingeyser for 10 but those cards are mostly going to be used to play more lands.

Garth is the commander of my Spellshaper tribal, as an honorary spellshaper. His main utility is that he hold 6 different responses at any time. I need a card I discarded back? Regrowth. I need more cards? The geyser. Mana starved? Lotus, baby. Problem creature? Terror. Problem non-creature? Disenchant. The man's a toolbox on legs, and plays well with others.

I actually run Garth infiniteless. I deliberately avoid any insta blinks in favor of the ones that return at end step. It's deliberately built to be a more fair toolbox deck. It can do a little bit of everything by using regrowth to recycle reanimation pieces, flicker effects, haste givers, or counterspells. Most of the deck is tap effect synergy to really capitalize on Garth's ability to do a little bit of everything. It can get a bit bullshit when i have stuff like seedborn muse allowing me to do my tap effects at each player's turn but it's still a pretty fair deck. If you want a 5C toolbox deck and Kenrith bores you to tears, give a noncombo Garth deck a try.

My garth one is called Garth's Greatness. It's a tad out of date but the jist of it is there and there's some pretty obvious upgrades you could make for higher power pods.

I've gotten up to some crazy stuff with manifold key, not gonna lie the ability to just give something non-block is to good to pass up. It works in every deck of every color being a 1 cost colorless artifact with one of the most busted abilities in the game.

I have to say I brewed a Garth deck with every gimmick mechanic available in commander (stickers, initiative, monarch, day/night, city's blessing, ring bearer, attractions... If a triggered ability you control triggers, it triggers twice instead. 1, Exile Satoru Gojo or target creature you control. Oh hey it's my favourite combo deck who absolutely fucks. I run like 8 different infinite combos in the deck some easier to pull off than others and let me tell you. He really do only count to infinity. I also have back up planeswalker 1000 year elixir too. Thankssssss WotC.

My nephew made the deck. Luckily he doesn't actually know how casual proxying works, and doesn't have adult money so the deck was generally bad, but we had a fun time anyway. Again, for the nth time, as ask for Marchesa the Black Rose to be Roasted. She deserves it.
