Amazing Performance by Gary Clark Jr. at Glastonbury, 26 June 2016 Ad disclaimer: I’m not running the super annoying ads. The label does, I have no say about that. The label also gets 100% of the ad revenue.

I dig it, yet still a semi- tragic irony, that today's BLUES greats are more appreciated and attended across the pond, than in U.S.A. Just like in the 60's. Wake up people, the best artists are not on your TV sets. They are at your Blues Festivals. Support them.

There a few guys out there that can precisely copy someone else's major hit, but they don't have any soul or their own personality and sound gone into it. @danielschaeffer12945 жыл бұрын
I agree entirely. There's always been a lot of snobbery, (and some unattractive reverse racism,) in the Jazz world, but when it comes down to blues, why bother? Technique is important, sure, but feeling is far more so. And as regards all these people who claim that all GC is doing is juggling a single chord diagram, hey -- that's all Lightnin' Hopkins, Gatemouth Brown, Albert Collins and Lonnie Mack ever did.

@patrickbuster34753 жыл бұрын
I might have to take lessons from you. I didn't know you did that until now. Thanks sierradelta07. Do some shit with Kirk Fletcher. Keep Chicago Electric Blues Alive (my favorite). I feel like there's some Egyptian, pyramidal, sacred, magic shit that hovers above Chicago and makes that blues possible. Normally, I believe in rationality, logic, reason, weighing evidence, argument and so on, but not here. I was meant to bend strings and create feeling since I was a little kid. I was only 5 when I saw Muddy, Little Walter, Johnny Winter and so on at Chicago Fest. It made such a deep, enduring impression on me. I collected Alligator records and tried to get autographs at clubs and festivals as much as I could. I was just so blown away by the fact that I was able to shake hands and speak with people who made recordings I listened to all the time. It's very personal to me. Shit, I ordered a white strat but it came in cream. Ain't that about a bitch? It doesn't matter of course. I have a small guitar collection. The only tortoise shell pickguard I have is on my mahogany jazz master. I have a couple strats, one with maple neck and fretboard and the other with maple neck and rosewood fretboard. However my fave is the tele. It doesn't have to be made by Fender. In fact, I'd rather buy a G&L than a Fender and a Heritage rather than a Gibson. I'm not a 'brand whore' though I do appreciate the histories of the major brands...Gibson, Fender and others. Eastman is a pretty great Co. though their prices and those of Heritage somewhat exceed what I'm comfortable paying at this time. I really appreciate craftsmanship and attention to detail. I make guitars and I think I'll make you a strat one day soon. I'm partial to Korina and Mahogany as quite resonant, tone woods for bodies and necks. Sapele, Koa and Zebrawood are great too. I have a Korina body tele with a burl maple top which sounds and looks amazing and there's something just great about doing volume and tone swells on a standard, 1 switch, 2 knobs tele configuration. I also have a light, ash body with maple neck and fretboard Cabronita...which sounds so rock and roll w/ 2 filtertron-style pickups that sound so rock n' roll. I'm going to make a bunch of pinecaster bodies from the wood I salvage from my uncle's farm buildings. I think I'll use this wood to make a Micawber copy as I see fit. I've got a '59 PAF humbucker at the neck, hand wound by Fabian D'Urbano in Australia. I think his Co. is called D'Urbano Magnetics. He was quite an accomplished (I think electrical) engineer for decades and now he's retired and makes amazing pickups. The bridge pickup for my tele is a Wolfetone Telebitch which is a pretty hot pickup. It's a rock n' roll dream. I do wonder how this sound compares to G&L Bluesboys with their MFD pickups. I also wonder about locking tuners, nuts, trems, etc. I wonder too about the various metals like steel,aluminum, chrome, bronze, brass, nickel, etc. that the hardware is made of.....also nut material like brass vs. bone. I'm not really open to that synthetic, tusq, graphite bullshit...though the self-lubricating nut is kinda interesting. I also insist on roller, string trees, if any. Steel vs. Brass tremblocks and saddles? Alright then. Peace....P.S. What about BIgsby vs. Duesenberg Les Trem vs. Babicz vs. Tremlok or is it Tremking, etc? Also quite fond of the SG Maestro Vibrola but tuning stability is most important above aesthetics. Evertune? I think Ibanez makes Bigsbylike trems for their Artcore series and maybe George Benson and Joe Pass signature guitars.

GCJ is such a tone master. He has a very interesting and unique style. I like how he leaves so much space in his solos and lets those long double stop bends sit, so he can build the solo up. A lot of guys think they need to come out of the gates and immediately shred on a guitar solo but that isn't the case. You have to leave yourself room to build up a solo. He establishes a motif at the begenning of the solo and then builds the solo off of its foundation. He saves the fast playing and even bigger bends for the end of the solo to create a climax but the lets the solo down nice and easy and right back in the groove. This is how you tell the difference between a guy that just does technical licks and somebody who can really play.
