His jokes are very clever, but it's his style. He intentionally strings you along waiting for the punchline to his main story, meanwhile going off on tangents that are also great.

I really appreciate when people can be so open about their depression & anxiety. As someone who has struggled with both since I was a teenager, it really helps to hear people opening up about it... especially when it's someone I admire. I wish him and everyone struggling all the best. 💛

I applaud Conan for talking about this more and more on his show and his podcast “Conan needs a friend” (which is fantastic by the way). This is something great that he’s discussing so openly, especially since everything he’s saying about the stigma of mental health is so true. Kudos to the both of them!

This amazing man's disposition with anxiety and depression sounds so much like mine, except im far from beating it from a long shot but this guy is so wholesome and sweet and funny he is one of the only inspirations i can see. If any of you people are experiencing the same thing pay attention to this guy. Weather or not his material is about mental health it will still help you mentally. I can relate. Having a significant other around to lean on for your emotional and practical needs could certainly make a depression more bearable. But there are other ways to fill that gap somewhat. I got a cleaning lady to help with the practical side. And for the emotional side I started a weekly dinner with some friends, so that I can talk about important stuff with somebody. That's in addition to the professional help I get. Hope something like this will work for you as well.

I knew knew knew he had a mind that might have issues with depression/ anxiety. I’m so glad he’s talking about his journey through depression and what he has experienced. The stigma and shame that comes with depression is the most damaging thing. You don’t feel ashamed over a broken arm (unless you were trying to have sex with a horse or something) so you should never feel shame about getting help for your mental health, we all have a mental health.

As just an observer, not a therapist, I can see a great deal of people-pleasing in Gulman's over-the-top laugh in response to other comedians' jokes or observations. And I also see it creates an awkward situation between them. Maybe his therapist should encourage him to be more honest in his response. I have done the same people-pleasing thing, but when I take the scary risk and be honest, I feel like a new and powerful person.

You know what cures a lot of ppl from being depressed-and SCARED?! Having enough money to pay your bills, being in decent health and not in chronic pain, having a fun pastime, a friend, and a decent job or purpose in life! I’m pretty sure most depressed ppl don’t have all of that! Good food helps too! Having fun and sharing it with others is really helpful.

It's nice for me to see comedians talk about depression. I've had to deal with friends losing interest in me and my parents demanding I take medicine to fix myself. I learnt to hide it deep down and act like a narcissistic idiot in order to get the attention my parents refused to give me. I'm proud to say that at 35 I'm an empathetic, Narcissistic, noisy, caring, idiot who wants every quiet, shy person to feel better about themselves and for every bully to hate themselves. So the other thing that helps if you're at level of self hatred I'm at.. I found another guy who hates life about 55% as much as I do and we can joke and talk about suicide and it's healing to know someone else is going through this suffering with you. Depression is a horrific thing and you need to find an outlet and at least get back to 50%

Comedy specials/comedians don't HAVE to be all jokes to still be brilliant. Neil Brennan (co-creator of the Chappelle Show) has a special from 2017 (maybe 2018) called "3 Mic's" where he also talks about problems/issues he has been going through for a long time. He had 3 mics and each different mic would be used to cover different material (one for serious talk, one for one-liner jokes, one for story style jokes). It was very well done and gave me a new perspective on a guy I'd always kinda liked but never heard that much from. Highly recommended.

Huh,..Electro shock therapy was trending on Face book last week, in August of 2021. Only because my group was looking at some old B & W photos of so called "insane asylums", in Ohio and around the country. We all ended up talking about One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest, the movie version. A person who was a psychologist nurse told the rest of us, they now administer anesthesia before the treatment. However, what little I knew about it, I offered that it is still is quite damaging "to one's brain" in the short term. The nurse concurred, that it can cause long term memory loss,...& semi-permanent brain fog. I was alarmed, since I had been anti-depressants for many years, and I thought they caused, at least for me,.....brain fog, and memory loss. It took me almost 3 years to recover my memories, both long term memories and short term memories, after getting off of them.
