In 1924, Ernest Bloch wrote three pieces that form a suite called “From Jewish Life,” intended to be performed together and in this order: Prayer, Supplication, and Jewish Song. Hoffman likes performing these three pieces in the opposite order to what Bloch intended; he begins with Jewish Song, then Supplication, and then the highly potent Prayer. Of all the interpretations I’ve ever heard-and there have been many-Hoffman’s touches me the most. He somehow plumbs the depth of Jewish feeling in a way I’ve never heard before. I’m haunted by the beauty of this performance, and so grateful for the relief it brings during these troubled times. Thank you.

Une oeuvre en communion avec la souffrance séculaire du peuple israélien... Merci Gary ! Votre interprétation m'est très très précieuse en tant que violoncelliste amateur ! THERE are many non jews who became jews and are very satisfied with it, feeling this deep joy with no negative feelings in their hearts !!
