'I only get pleasure [while painting] if there is a problem, and when I solve that problem I need to make another one' says Gary Hume. Part of the internationally celebrated group of 'Young British Artists' that studied at London's Goldsmiths College in the late 1980s, Hume has gone on to become one of Britain's most highly respected painters.
In this film, made on the eve his new show at Tate Britain, Hume invites TateShots into his studio and talks about his working practice and his famous preference for household gloss paints.

Gary Hume is not pretentious,he at times makes very beautiful signs. The YBA's generation were not about pretence and becoming art teachers or staying on the dole, they followed,in a way,the DIY ethic of punk..just go out there and make the work, try and be successful,of course they were opportunistic! Some good artists did result from this scene like Lucas,Coventry,Hume,Banner, early Hirst, some, yes even some of Emins work.

Finally an artist talking about art … and great art … Hume is selling because he is a great fantastic artist … he doesn’t need to talk about his sufferings and struggles in his personal life to explain what he is doing … a welcome fresh air in art world … Tate showing a real artist is probably a mistake of the snobby intelectual pricks managing the gallery …

back of a snowman, makes me giggle. the joke is on us I guess. how to paint a door. great poetry. it gives the works the right temperature. without it, they would be pretty average.

Alright lets get straight to the point and try to understand the fake genius like Gary Hume. Art should be divided by different categories which it is, although I see art critics and art history mixing up everything and calling certain people artists like Gary. If you look closer to his work you dont see a complex connection to human emotion color is related to our feelings and emotions although these concepts were already developed by the big masters of the past. They took art to the limit and confronted conventional art and techniques with abstract. They were the first ones to do it like Rothko or Jackson Pollock for example. Furthermore, I dont see any reason for artists like Gary being considered artists for bringing back concepts that doesnt suit our society or way of living nowadays. His work is not experimental and it doesnt give anything new to the viewer. There is a difference between an artist and a painter, an artist is a creator of something new to society making masterpiece after masterpiece. A painter just brings old concepts and conventional techniques to society furthermore his works can only be classified as art decor. Decoration and art should be categorized in different sections in the artworld. A true artwork tells about history and a certain context involved around the artwork. It describes society and human emotions. It doesnt have aesthetic functions instead it gives us information about the way the artist was thinking towards his environment. It is a historical event expressed by the intellect of one of the highest visual arts "painting". Most art critics, collectors and art dealers are focusing on the aesthetic of a certain piece forgetting the complex thinking of the human brain and its complexity nowadays. Art demands a more challenging art form and Gary Hume unfortunately doesnt have the talent to achieve it. Open your eyes and pay attention to artists born in the 80s and the 90s they will give enough support for the next generations in the artworld. These type of abstract it is over rated it became a trend and there is many fake artists like Gary taking advantage of these lies and primitive ways of thinking and painting. Make art great again and stop accepting shit artist from your circle of friends art should be supported for talented people with innovative new ideas and concepts. Dont try to fold my eyes with this primitive trash decoration. Tate may lie to amateurs but people that has been painting for over thirty years its a little bit difficult to accept this nonsense. They called themselves contemporary artists hahahahah they are contemporary liars if someone asks me if I am contemporary artist I simply say no I am simply an artist not contemporary, although I dont make decorations I make Art.

I found it via your profile. It appears quite obvious that you are projecting. You offer nothing innovative yourself, and simply perpetuate the myth of the artist as the shadowy tortured soul; trite and derivative is what you are. The fact you haven’t uploaded any more of your excrement in two years suggests you probably know it.
