Conversion of Phytonadione into menaquinone-4: 1. Phytonadione into menadione 1(a). Phytonadione is converted into it's oxidized form called Phylloquinone thorough a process called hydroxylation by an enzyme called Phytoene-desaturase. 1(b). Phylloquinone is converted into menadione through a process called Prenylation by an enzyme called UbiA prenyltransferase domain-containing 1 (UBIAD1). Prenylation is the addition of a prenyl group to a substrate, the prenyl group is geranylgeranyl. Geranylgeranyl is a long, hydrophobic chain that is made up of two isoprene units. 2. Menadione into menaquinone-4 2(a). Menadione is converted into menadione-geranyl through a process called prenylation by an enzyme called UbiA prenyltransferase domain-containing 1 (UBIAD1). 2(b). MK-4 synthase is an enzyme that catalyzes the addition of four prenyl groups to menadione-geranyl. The prenyl groups are derived from the coenzyme Q10 molecule. The reaction catalyzed by MK-4 synthase results in the formation of a molecule called menaquinone-4. Is this process incorrect or not?

I have never understood anatomy like I do now after watching your videos! I now enjoy studying anatomy. You were born with a rare gift, thank you so much for sharing with the world.

Superb as always. So impressed with your knowledge but also your ability to explain and articulate it all so well. This video was such a revelation to me. I had always assumed all returning blood from all organs was via the inferior vena cava but had no idea of this very clever portal to the liver. God or nature is so brilliant in its designs.

My 62 year old hubby has cirrhosis of the liver, a swollen spleen, a hernia, low blood platelets , low white blood cells and very high bilirubin and asceites (?). His hematologist doctor wants to put him on water pills or drain belly, do a bone marrow biopsy. She told him he needed a liver transplant. We asked her what role diet & nutrition plays in this. She said “NOTHING.” SO……We quit cold Turkey all alcohol, all processed foods, cut down drastically on sugar and salt. No pain meds, no prescriptions. He’s lost 33 lbs since diagnosed in August 22. I’ve only lost 9 ( Damnit). He says he feels so much better. We will - in the short term at least- continue to get blood tests and exam of belly ( CT Scan?) WE believe we can reverse this.

You Sir, are bringing the swag into anatomy/physiology. This is what happens when passion and competence are nicely blended. If this is your way of studying/reviewing for yourself you are going to know your stuff! Exams are a walk in the park for you, me thinks. Also , way better source for me to recap GI-Liver basics before starting a PhD in this field. Screw dull paper courses, this is the future!
