"GATE" is literally about gate that connecting 2 different world: this world and world of knight, magic, monster, etc. it's story sometimes heavy, fun, silly & surprising. i really recomend you to watch it, i think you will like it

this is one of the hidden gems in isekai genre without the protagonist dying at the 1st episode cliche

YESSS!! One of my favorite and most underrated animes ever!! Doesnt get talked about as much as the bigger ones but what a story and overall awesome anime to watch!! Two words that make this anime amazing is Rory Mercury! 've rewatched this series more than 5 times cuz I love it! never gets old!

It's a comedic but also action filled anime that shows a ancient civilization vs modern day civilization, in politics, war, and views on allies and such.

Middle-aged otaku finds himself in the middle of a fantasy invasion, handles it coolly, gets promoted and is then assigned a team to investigate the source. Highly recommend this one.

GATE is a great anime, its literally the clash between what we have as a society today and what was our society 500+ years ago, how military, socially and politically they clash.

Basically, there is technical no villain. One day, a mysterious GATE appears and opens up in Tokyo. Out comes an army full of horse mounted soldiers, goblins, and other fantasy creatures. They started attacking and killing people the Japanese army fights back. The male main character also fights and protects people, which when it's over, he is awarded and is one of the first that are sent through the gate to set up base and establish communication with the other side. It's really good

I have always fantasized THIS scenario as a kid, then there's FINALLY an anime on it!

This is the most beloved title for me. For me , this GATE series are rewatchable. Just as an info. The military are Jietai 自衛隊 / SDF which is exist in Japan IRL . Jietai / SDF is Japanese Self-Defense Forces, the unified military forces of Japan. Basically the theme is that our modern world suddenly connected with other world by a misterious GATE (just as the title said). Our world only had humans and other world has many races such as human, elves, dragon, etc. You would love the full context of this title. Just as MKAZ (my friend) said, I really recommend this one.

This was the anime that i binged in just 2days, both seasons after a long long time Pretty Good and Immersive if it's yor type

Didn't think I'd see anyone ever react to Gate so I'm really glad you check this out. I've probably rewatched this series 10 times now and I love it for the interactions the characters have with each other, and I like the political conflict between the other nations.

Been so long since I last saw these. I know I watched the series as it aired... wow that was a while ago, lol.

I watched the anime twice now. It is My second favorite isekai just behind Mushoku Tensei. If You would like to get into isekai (when You reincarnate or just transport to Another World), then this anime Will allow You to understand what isekai is about and it is really interesting having people from both sides of the "gate" interacting with each other and finding out technology and Magic for each side. Once You are done with Attack on Titan, I recommend you watch this one. It won't take long for You to finish it and it is actually a good isekai out of the so many Bad or generic isekai anime out there.

Rory (the gothic lolita girl with the really big axe) gives one of the most badass speeches in anime. If I ever get to escape work, I might submit it on a thursday as a "break" from music clip Edit: maybe not if you have any chance to watch it, since I don't want you to lose the impact of that speech. The clip I shared before from my favorite voice actress, that one speech she did is the only reason people pay any attention to that anime, this one actually has a lot of good things that are fun to watch, I definitely wouldn't want to spoil it.

I love how the second opening reflects so well the second season. Without spoilers, the second season revolves around small conflict that eventually escalates out of control. In the opening you can see how they present the different parties and factions (not only warriors and soldiers but diplomats and bystanders too) and as the opening progresses they turn from friendly and collected into hot-blooded and frustrated.

The full title gives away the story essentially is a isekai pr for the JSDF

Sooo, this is is what happens in episode 1. Imagine you are a person in the military. You have a few days off. Since you are a fellow anime otaku you decide to drop by an anime convention to buy merch and manga. A literal GATE from a fantasy world opens and knights on top of wyverns are pouring out and seemingly starting an invasion. What do you do?!? This is a realistic scenario of what would actually happen. The first season is more about introducing the main cast while the second season builds upon stuff that were being setup from the first season. For example, the MC(yes the one that was shown with the rocket launcher) is being thrown into situations because he happened to be present when things start to happen.

So funny that people call Tsukumichi a "ripoff" of Tensura... ... when Tensura started a year after it.

There is a part in the anime where they play Wagner's flight of the valkyrie and its epic

This anime is kinda cool. It's basically modern military versus ancient greek/medieval times warfare and magic fantasy.

Stories that blend reality with fiction is what hooks me. Unlike the typical trope of characters receiving magical abilities from Gods or entities, what makes these characters OP is simply because they came from the 21st century. This concept should be further explored in isekai animes, where realism clashes with fantasy. It's fascinating to see how much we have progressed in terms of technology. While some may criticize this type of anime as propaganda, If thats so.. then this type of propaganda is what I like. Showing how advanced we are. There are endless possibilities for storylines that can be explored using this concept. For instance, imagine a Star Wars-style military force, such as the empire stormtroopers, being transported to a world with magic. The idea of such a futuristic military colliding with a world of magic would be captivating. It's the unconventional ideas that often capture our attention.

Gate is like really good amine. Action, a bit of politicts and waifus. Itami, the one with the racket launcher, is an underated military badass. Request for you to react to all "shakugan no shana openings" and "darling in the franxx"

the original manga is apparently jingoist and very pro-Japan, anti-everyone else. The English translations gloss over much of that. There are many cute or sexy girls interested in the main character but instead of the dumb tropes of not noticing or can't decide he just can't get involved because he is a soldier and sleeping around or marrying local girls would complicate things and hurt them if he gets reassigned.

This is a great series!. one of my favorites. The studio did a great job of improving the story by skipping/streamlining a bunch of tedious detail into accurate illustrations. One of the only stories where the anime is better than the books.

I didn't wanna watch it at first since it seemed mid, but it's pretty decent and it's pretty thought out in terms of how realistic it would be.

There really isn't a clear cut villain in this series, although if I were to have a complaint the author has a bit of a "the JSDF can't do bad." syndrome but I feel like that goes for anyone who writes a military piece like this. It's hard to not want to show your country in a positive light.

While I actually enjoyed this show a lot the reason the army looks all nice even though it looks like they are the ones invading is because the show was more or less propaganda for the Japanese SDF. The plot is a big gate appeared about of nowhere that links the modern world and a fantasy world together. Theres a fight in Tokyo but the fantasy army get regularly massacred (best description for it. Its rarely even close to a fair fight) Then the army does a colonialism in the fantasy world while fending off other countries like the US and china who want to do the same. The show uncritically has the stance that what the Japanese are doing is fine while admitting if other countries where to do the same it would be bad. Again I like the show. If you don't think about what's happening too much you'll have fun. The show just very obviously has a bias and agenda and it is kind of weird how a lot of the major and extreme stuff the JSDF does is just never analysed as anything other then good or morally neutral at a pinch

if you dont mind the blatantly obvious military propaganda its a really fun anime to watch

gate is pretty good but after watching a gem like overlord might not appreciate it as much

Really wanted to like this anime/LN. Shame about the author's politics.

GATE is a rare isekai-type anime that doesn't treat magic as a Godly power that trumps everything. Has good political intrigue. Sadly, it's incomplete.

It's an anime/manga that I loved the political and over all story but never fell in love with the main character.

I liked this anime, but I hated it when it wanted branch out instead of being about the military action. So in a way, there are a lot of filler episodes cuz the army would steamroll in this new world, but there's also way too much fan service. The referee got tied up and stashed in closet for this one.

It gets kind of political as to who's the villains are. There's certainly a war that happens, but depending on what you're on, the villains are the other side.

It has a great concept but the anime didn't do it correctly. The Novel did it pretty well, same with the manga.
