Yup for what was covered by the Anime. The novel paints a different picture as the monster disguised as kids causes tons of problems for the JSDF, the ALC and the Town that grew on Alnus Hill. Add in the Assasin Squad to the mess. I recommend reading the light novel series it paints a better picture of things. Though the Novel Volume 7 (Paradrop and Piña Rescue Arc) or was it Volume 8 is difficult to find.

I’ve heard this anime was supposedly propaganda for the Japanese military or something like that when this first came out but I really appreciate the attention to detail about military protocol, like checking your back before firing a rocket launcher. That made me smile.

This anime was produced by Japan's armed forces, therefore the production quality is very good. As propaganda, it is a bit subtle when compared to G.I.Joe though.

@Ban this youtube Dude. I am not dissin on G.I.Joe. It is one of the best things to come out from the USA! I remember watching the cartoons 25 years ago when it was broadcasted on TV. I had also bought a G.I.Joe Devilfish then. Sadly, I lost it a few years later. I still miss it today

As I understand it, the original novels were written by s former member of the JSDF and are quite a bit heavier on patriotic/nationalistic stuff, the anime is toned down in that regard.

Well, because "RPG" is short for Rocket Propelled Grenade and the Panzerfäust 3 is basically just that. And being an English dubbing. They dubbed it down to be easier to understand. As not everyone knows what a Panzerfäust is and so they just dubbed it "RPG". Personally, I think yelling "Panzerfäust! Panzerfäust!" Sounds cooler than "RPG!" But I was never asked nor even on the dub team.

@@fourze6113 It isn't. It was a recoilless gun, not rocket propelled :> Shoutout to the americans, who were the first to really adopt and roll out RPG's in a larger scale - with their Bazookas. Nazi-Germany essentially just copied an enlarged version of the Bazooka with the Panzerschreck. (Even tho the argument could be made that the soviets were first, with production of the RS-65 from 1931-38.. but there's a reason nobody has really heard about this weapon)

@@kohlrabe1709 Panzerfaust is absolutely an RPG, and it was rocket propelled. It was shot by igniting the propellant attached to the warhead, which then propelled it to it's target.

One thing I love is the massive wingspan, as it it would definitely need much bigger wings than is usually shown in fiction for dragons or dragon-like monsters for such a large animal to fly.

@@kmmediafactory if the diseases that exist in this world are in any way like ours, they may have already prepared for that. One of the soldiers in Itami's unit is a medic and was treating certain members of the red light district for particular diseases. (One of them was a harpy) The possibility of vaccination for the soldiers and the citizens in the special area is not out of the question

Probably because in most fantasy setting dragons are intelligent with spellcasting ability, so sticking to a more biologically reasonable features make sense for gate.

I wished they stuck with the Recon Team concept for more of the series, going into this show four years ago, i was hyped for what i thought would be "Generation Kill" meets "Dungeons and Dragons".

Yeah, they went too much the isekai harem route. The MC is somehow both a lazy otaku and special forces, even though that should be contradictory. He also goes on missions for personal reasons (help the elf girl) rather than just because he got an order. This anime has it's moments, but I would prefer either deep recon travelling places and talking to locals and resupplied by helicopters OR simply conquest of paradise type of story.

HEAT is good for punching holes, but requires the round to hit a thrashing target. HEAP may be better for blowing it's wings off and generally removing chunks of flesh in it's detonation area.

@@thomasschulz2167 It was doing a pretty good job of no-selling .50 BMG, which is intended for anti-material. I would not expect shrapnel from HEAP to be more effective than a heavy machine gun (or even _as_ effective). A hard target like that, HEAT would be your best option if all you have is MANPATS.

@@adyatma1 HESH depends on the transmission of shockwaves through materials to do damage; given that scales are not wholly rigid like steel (as they need to move and flex) and the size of the dragon, HESH from MANPATS is unlikely to transfer enough energy to disrupt internal organs (unless you hit it in the face, which would be challenging at best with a low velocity rocket). The best bet would would still be to punch holes in it, as punching holes in something is probably the quickest way to change its behavior.

@@MannyXVIII I'd have to disagree. There are a lot of anime I've watched started in one language and ended in another one because of it sounding better. Re zero I started in English and finished in Japanese and full metal alchemist was the other way round for me. Everyone has their preferences and for some anime it's in English and in others it's Japanese for me at least.

I didn't know Kurata was voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, who is the same VA as Sakuta Azusagawa from Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai and Naofumi Iwatani from The Rising of The Shield Hero. Similar HEAT warhead that doesn't require velocity to inflict it's damage. Modern mad-portable missile launchers are far easier to deploy for the same effectiveness. large versions have the advantage of being guided, which you can't do with the recoilless rifle.

@@aspopulvera9130 Panzerfaust-3 they used IS a recoiless rifle. As for Javelin I'm not sure if it could lock into dragon. There is backup aiming mode used against targets not hot enough, but I don't know if missile can home-in to moving target in this mode. Foolproof tool would be SACLOS missile, like TOW, where aiming is done manually, and missile simply follows wherever your crosshair aims at.

Because that movie was like the Silence (2019), it portrayed the military as stupid and incompetent. Realistically, only dragons on the level of King Ghidorah or Rayquaza can take out modern humans.

Funny, how cold war weapons had a huge advantage on taking out Dragons and medieval soldiers. They may find those guns they wield may be powerful but those guns were kinda outdated for us modern humans.

It’s been a long time sence I watched gate. And now I wanna watch it over again. Not bcuz I enjoyed it that much, no, bcuz now it has an amazing English dub that I can really truely enjoy this anime. I watched gate b4 there ever was an English dub. The fact that it’s been over a year now sence the English dub of gate came out is still quite shocking, cuz I wud have hoped to have found out a lot sooner. But better late then never I guess.

I wonder if the JSDF's iconic anti-kaiju Maser Cannon would have worked? (Assuming that line about "combating kaiju" was meant to be literal, and not just there for ironic comic relief.) That said, I suspect that any Maser Cannons would be kept on the Earth-side of the Gate, (the way all the latest conventional JSDF weapons are kept on Earth-side,) in case of another Ginza incursion.

@@rocket_sensha4337 And if you watch the anime, you will see them use both man portable mortars and standard 105mm towed howitzers all aimed by simple azimuth compass fire controls, as well as direct fire from tanks. What technology they took through the gate is all older self contained and easy to use and repair...no one knows when and if the gate will Close, stranding those on the other side. K.I.S.S principles in action...JDSF ain't dumb, they know how to make do with less.

It wasn't available just yet,it seems.They still had to build enough of base to have helicopters come through,and airfield needed some more time to be built.

Because the special region is considered low threat so they send in outdated equipment they can afford to lose. Furthermore they are recon element sent out to establish friendly diplomatic ties and they're far away from the only base in the special region which is still being set up at the time so it's unlikely even helis or the f4s that we seen later in the series are operational. (Also US forces are not in the special region nor aiding the JSDF for political reasons which I do not care to explain so I recommend you to instead watch the show yourself)
