Join us as we try out the Gateway Defense Performance drill! This challenging drill consists of 3 stages, each with its own spicy hit factors that will test even the best of us.
In this video, the guys take it up a notch by attempting the drill from concealment instead of the usual OWB rig, adding an extra layer of difficulty to their already ambitious goal. Watch as Jared and Aaron both aim for the High Hit Factor - the best score on record.
But it's not all about serious competition; Jared, Aaron, Miles, and Colin bring their signature banter and fun to the range, making for an entertaining and interesting viewing experience.
Stage Descriptions:
Stage 1: Setup: 1 USPSA target.
Course of Fire: From 7 yards, draw and engage T1 with exactly 6 rounds, perform a mandatory reload, and reengage T1 with exactly 6 rounds. 60 total points possible. Divide total points by total time. A-Zone = 5 points, C-Zone = 3 points, D-Zone = 1 point, Misses = -10 points.
A Class: 12.0 HF
M Class: 13.6 HF
Grandmaster: 15.2 HF
High Hit Factor (HHF): 16.0 HF
Stage 2: Setup: 2 USPSA targets, placed side by side within 12" of each other edge to edge. Left target is T1 and right target is T2.
Course of Fire: From 10 yards, draw and engage T1 body, T2 Head, T2 body, T1 head, T1 body, T2 body in that order with 2 rounds each. Best 2 per headbox and best 4 per body will score. Comstock. 60 points possible. Divide total points by total time. A-Zone = 5 points, C-Zone = 3 points, D-Zone = 1 point, Misses = -10 points.
A Class: 10.87 HF
M Class: 12.32 HF
Grandmaster: 13.77 HF
HHF: 14.5 HF
Note: each head box will be treated as its own target. Thus, any shot aimed at the head box that drops below the bottom of the head (shoulder perf to shoulder perf) will count as a Miss. The inverse is true for any shot aimed at the body that goes high into the headbox - counted as a miss.
Stage 3: Setup: 2 USPSA targets, placed side by side within 12" of each other edge to edge. Left target is T1 and right target is T2.
Course of Fire: From behind the 25 yard line, draw and engage both T1 and T2 body with 2 rounds each static. Move to the 10 yard line and from behind the 10 yard line engage both T1 head and T2 head with 2 rounds each static, and then engage T1 and T2 body with 2 rounds each on the move towards the targets. Comstock. 60 points possible. Divide total points by total time. A-Zone = 5 points, C-Zone = 3 points, D-Zone = 1 point, Misses = -10 points.
A Class: 4.2 HF
M Class: 4.76 HF
Grandmaster: 5.32 HF
HHF: 5.6 HF
Note: each head box will be treated as its own target. Thus, any shot aimed at the head box that drops below the bottom of the head (shoulder perf to shoulder perf) will count as a Miss. The inverse is true for any shot aimed at the body that goes high into the headbox - counted as a miss.

My DUDES!! Super humbled to have you guys run these. Y’all crushed it. MANY people cannot even pass A class runs during class, cool to see you guys ripping A, M, and GM on demand! The way the patches work is if you pass String 1, you get a patch and you get to shoot for String 2. Likewise for String 3, once you’ve passed String 2. Aaron you need to give string 1 a try with the old OWB rig and send me the video! I’ll get Jared’s patches in the mail asap! (Insane runs at string 1 from concealment by the way shooting it concealed with that reload is super spicy!)

Concealment is slower than OWB competition setup. However it is more realistic and more competitions should shoot from concealment.

The draw makes a negligible difference in a stage, and most reloads are done while moving so running from concealment shouldn’t really change much on a stage. Static shooting is a different story though obviously
@SunshineHB
@SunshineHB 4 күн бұрын
I shoot steel matches from IWB all the time. I train to my IWb so I’m prob about equal speed wise than out of a belt. The reloads are the only thing that sucks, mainly defeating the shirt and grabbing the mag with one hand while moving to the next box. Static it isn’t that bad. Sometimes I’ll even reload from my back pocket with the baseplate slightly out of the pocket so I can grab it.

Fun Drills. The "re-shoot" and Mulligans are representative of ability under ideal conditions, warmed up. A "Real World" approach is obviously; No Mulligans, No Reshoot- demonstrating ability On Demand.

Mulligan to my knowledge is golf term . Mulligan means you had horrible shot and you want to take another swing . We used to play 1 mulligan per 9 holes and you could not use mulligan on 1st or 18th holes

Than a non-retention competition OWB setup? No. It can be close, but a competition holster will have a faster average draw time, given the same shooter with an equal level of training on both setups.
