Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/arielcelestepho... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

Love that Clay sees this as a play day. That reminds me of an old saying from my family that "the best vacation is a change of work." Just doing something different (especially if it is productive) makes for happiness.

Heated our house with wood from the national forest for 13 years before switching to coal. My husband and I worked as a team much like you two. He felled trees, I marked the cuts at 16" , he cut into rounds, I hauled and stacked in the truck.

I live in Northern WI. This is definitely lake country. Thousands pour into this area every weekend when it's not snowing to have fun at their cabin and roast some weenies. Many folks have for sale signs where people can buy a bit of wood for their weekend fire. The best sign I have seen is " Firewood for sale. Organic".

My husband and I and one of our neighbors used to do this. Brisk autumn air, bright sunshine, and a whole lot of laughing. We enjoyed those days so much, and ended up with enough wood one year to last a couple of years. And the great thing was, we didn’t have to go further than the field behind our house. There was some untillable land there, and the farmer was gracious enough to let us take all the wood we wanted. Of course, we didn’t enter the field until he got his crop out, and always cleaned up behind ourselves. Great memories! I agree with Clay. Those were great play days!

Hi from northwest Florida! It was fun to watch you guys getting firewood! Today I been boiling up some fresh caught shrimp while planting seeds in flats in preparation for my fall garden, and watching KZfaq. I haven't had a wood burner for a few years since mine finally fell apart a few years ago. I bought it used for $25 in 1996 and it gave me good service until a few years ago when it began crumbling apart, it was an old Sears wood stove circulator, really great I could put huge whole log in a bedtime, close down the damper and it was still with coals in the morning. I recently found a good deal on a small oblong cast iron US Stove company wood burning heater that I could afford and I'm thrilled to have it! I don't have it set up yet but it's on my to do list to get done before cold weather sets in. Our local Military base has permits available for locals to cut firewood so I plan to do that soon too. I should have done it by now but heat, humidity and mosquitoes deterred me.

My beetle-killed lodgepole pine cutting days came to an end in the Medicine Bow National Forest in southern Wyoming came to an end when a gigantic forest fire wiped out the whole area, destroying billions of dollars worth of timber, posts-and-pole type sales, and habitat for moose, elk, black bear, and all the small critters I love to see in the woods.

Do you know if more of Wyoming was forested historically? In areas with more of a grassy plains looks, I'm always curious if that is because of historical clearing or if it's the natural condition of the land.

My newer but old MS250 has a smaller gas tank than my older Farm Boss. So I have to fill it up more often. A full cord is 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet stacked. A face cord is basically one third of a cord. I have only ordered a hand full of wood on my life but only one load was truly a cord. Last year, I thought I would order wood from a couple sources to see if they would bring the correct amount. Both loads were short by a lot. One company has the wood cutter and splitter in one system where they feed a log in and the machine does everything. Then it goes up a belt and dumps into his dump truck. The other guy does everything by hand. But he stacked it at his step fathers before he delivers it. He not only did not bring the correct amount but he argued that it was and suggested that I was probably hiding some wood someplace. I don't think that guy was smart enough to do the math to figure out if he was bringing a cord. A real obtuse dolt. I wonder how they would like it if their oil delivery was short but they still got a bill for the full amount? So it took me a while just to fill up what was lacking from the wood they brought. Which makes me wonder how people like that determine what they should pay if paying $5. a cord on government land in Wyoming? Why aren't the loads ever more than a cord when ordered? That's a shame the trailer wrecked and the hay was ruined. But good that the fire didn't get out of control.

Think of the income you generated. Heating the home and shop is expensive. Running a big truck and a chainsaw is not free. Labor is not free. The heat generated by the fire places will, however, be the most pleasant income of your project. You’ll be in the comfort and glow of the fire, looking out at the cold. Hard to beat that.
