A memorial for many of the (known) gay actors of the Golden Age of Hollywood, which spanned from approximately 1910 to 1960. While many actors stayed closeted to protect their careers and families, there were examples of out-and-proud performers in those days, including notable American actor William Haines. For obvious reasons, not all gay actors of the time are featured in the tribute.
The piece of music chosen for the video is by composer Michael J. Lewis and was featured in the 1979 film The Passage.

That's a pretty good way of looking at it but we all know how people really are, they'll make excuses to overlook things like this when it involves their own race and they may like the individual as well, on the other hand, crucify another person for the same act basically out of hate for that race overall and lie and say they're all that way, , their approval or disapproval doesn't come from truth or wanting right or judging fairly but rather from their hate and racism and that's just the truth that I've noticed about how many people operate.

From what I read he was actually quite open about it. I think at some point he accepted he was never going to be 'the leading man', and figured as a character actor it wouldn't affect his career so much, and people would just hire him anyway, and he was somewhere between less than 'discreet' and comfortably relaxed about it. He was also fairly rampant IIRC.

I can't help crying if I think about how many life stories we leave behind. How much beauty how much suffering have dissolved and now faded over time. @777davey 1. Sin is in the eye of the beholder. God is our Father and His eyes are eyes of love. He creates each of us for His purpose. The whole concept of sin is a ridiculous simplification of life and a relic of the Middle Ages where God was a God of fear and not a God of love. 2. Life is about love, not sin! 3. God loves us with the love of a Father who loves His children and understands the difficulties we have in living out our destinies. 4. Eternal damnation is a creation of narrow-minded people who wouldn't know the parameters of love and don't recognize the way love works in all of our lives. There was no gayness in my past family and why I was born gay is in the hands of God, not in the narrow-minded hands of people like you who see everything through eyes of judgement. God is not a judge. He is the Creator God and love creates. Love does not punish. Our society does not accept gay people because of people like you whose head is buried in the sands of the Middle Ages.
@leoinsf
@leoinsf 4 жыл бұрын
@777davey I don't know what Bible you are using, but the Bible most people read does not dwell on sin, does not dwell on Hell, but gives a message of hope and salvation to all, not just to the sinless. God sees us as His children and would any Father act toward their children like you picture God acting: a dispassionate judge, a heartless parent? No! God is not a divider. He is a uniter. When you focus on sin, you are dividing people and reinforcing your false sense of holiness! How do you know that "I stubbornly refuse to clean up my sin"? I live a sinless life and refuse to let people like you do what ignorant and short-sighted people do: act like they are God and have the power to judge everyone without knowing the circumstances and the facts. Just because I admit to being gay does not mean I am automatically living in sin. I was born gay and wouldn't have been born this way unless God wanted it so. Get over it! Your Middle Ages conception of life is due for an update! By the way, this is my last reply! I pray for you!

William Haines was the #1 actor of the silent era. When Louis B. Mayer insisted he give up his lifelong partner, Billy replied, “Only if YOU give up your wife!” (Mayer didn’t.) Bogarde was first major star to play a gay character. The film was called “Victim” and he played a married but closeted man being blackmailed. A great actor, he continued working but was no longer cast in romantic leads. He had a “don’t ask don’t tell” stance on his private life but didn’t participate in sham coverups. He and partner were together 40+ years. Ironically, before “Victim” he was often promoted as the British Rock Hudson.

Homosexuality aside, these were intelligent and talented individuals who challenged life as well as (if not better than) anyone else. I miss, especially, Tab Hunter. His very early TV appearances just oozed with boyish charm. You could see his awe over his new-found fame. Enough to make anyone smile (for him). As well, he did (in my estimation) develop into quite a decent actor, despite what some critics have said. And in 1956 he held the No. 1 position in the nation with "Young Love", a song that has since then been recorded by so many other artists. All in all (his real name) didn't do too bad for a poor boy without a dad.

I believe that is how the handled the death of Victor Charles too. He is buried I the same columbarium as his Mom. His grave is unmarked. Hollywood Graveyard has covered it in one of their videos. Check out the latest detailed and investigated biography on Rock by Mark Griffin 2018, "All That Heaven Allows". Having read several biographies on Tyrone Power, I think the general consensus was that he was bi. It is believed Elizabeth Taylor was genuinely in love with Montgomery Cliff, but he was gay. Cary Grant always deferred from accusations he was gay, but he did have a long relationship with Randolph Scott. Tab Hunter said he and Rock Hudson flew to Europe together for separate movies they were making. He said both knew the other was gay--but neither mentioned it.

@@teresalinton5898 “He (Paul Newman) had passionate affairs with James Dean, Tony Perkins and Sal Mineo. He also had an affair with the former child star Brandon de Wilde that lasted three years. And he had an intermittent affair with actor John Derek throughout the Sixties (spanning Derek’s marriages to Ursula Andress and Linda Evans). But the most shocking passage in the book concerns Newman’s tortured relationship with his son by his first marriage, Scott, who was in awe of his father but also resented his cursory involvement in his life. Scott, too, was bisexual but he was also drug-addled. When Sal Mineo was finally rejected as a lover by Newman in the late Sixties, he rang him up to say that he was in bed with Scott. Scott eventually died of a drugs overdose in 1978 and Porter chooses to end his book with the moment when Newman contemplated suicide by drowning not long after his son’s death. Some Newman fans will find this book hard to stomach in places, since their hero emerges from it as a more insecure, driven and flawed individual than they perhaps imagined. But at least we now know that he was a lot more interesting than the goody two-shoes image he cultivated. By Darwin Porter”

When I was about 9, I was reading the TV Guide & came upon the letters & questions to the editor. I read this. Q: Does Rock Hudson ever date women? A: Occasionally. I understood immediately. Was probably shocked, because I kept my discovery to myself... published for all America to read!

For the most part, there would *NOT* be a Hollywood if it were not for the gay people....Times have changed and the majority of people today do not care about one's sexual orientation. Sad, what many had to endure back then and could not totally be true to who they were....must have been a terrible inner struggle, despite having achieved success and acclaim, etc....

I suppose we could include Jonathan Frid, famous for playing Barnabas and Bramwell Collins on "Dark Shadows," but that was past the "Golden Age" of Hollywood.
