In Part One of an extended early morning interview with the leader of the Patriotic Front, Gayton McKenzie explains why his kingmaking party is set to switch sides (again) in Gauteng - and why this time it’s likely to be for keeps. A central personality in South Africa’s edge-of-the-seat political arena, McKenzie ’fesses up to mistakes, especially in the Johannesburg Metro. And explains how this has helped the top team in his party conclude that DA leader John Steenhuisen’s Moonshot Pact is worth a full shot. He spoke to Alec Hogg of BizNews.

Why is it so difficult for people to come to their senses what is wrong. The DA is the only party you must side with. Their standards are very high but other parties don't understand that. Gayton and others are either or arrogant stupid incompetent and useless not to see which way to go.

The country has been in a rapid decline by being governed by the ANC. Much respect to all the Rainbow Coalition Parties for coming together, putting their differences aside in order to challenge the ANC in the upcoming elections. Most certainly this is a power move by these parties to stop the rot and turn around the country. Let us hope that change will come in 2024, respect to Gayton,Steenhuizen and Mashaba.

The DAs fear of Gayton is corruption and self enrichment. So this topic about positions etc must be settled on what best fits the coalition leaders persona, background, education etc. With that being said, Gayton should be given the Minister of Police portfolio. And a policy similar to segregation of duties should be adopted. So using this as a further eg, the National Commissioner of Police should be from another party. This should apply to all ministries. Its going to be very difficult to satisfy all egos and the race dilema, so my vote for the President to lead this coalition in government would Musi Maimane.

I certainly support Gayton on his stance with regards to making any agreements the political parties or alliances want to adopt public knowledge before they implement them, although this could delay implementation should it be agreeable to many, but not all,and vice versa,at least give the citizens a chance to voice their concerns before implementing new acts, which could also serve to give those in power a chance to review their ideas and implement changes based on advice the citizens offered which might be more reasonable and acceptable to a majority of the citizenry. Granted this might seem Utopian, but it's better than the dystopian nightmare we are currently living with.

Boggles the mind that people with a criminal record can stand for public office. 👎

Well Gayton. If you want people to trust you perhaps you should stop selling out to the ANC every time you get a little bit butt hurt. Maybe also remember that you are very much a minority party. If you want to act like the senior member of the coalition you need the votes. But Kudos on your candour. That is refreshing
