This is coming from a Year 10 GCSE student, but I really recommend that instead of using ‘shows’, you use words and phrases such as ‘derives connotations of’, ‘portrays’, ‘conveys’, ‘we can infer’, ‘evokes’, ‘alludes’, ‘connotes’, ‘crystallises’, ‘delineates’, ‘projects’, etc. These are words off the top of my head that my teacher very strongly recommends to use instead of shows. Aside from that, Thankyou for the advice!
@ellej69856 жыл бұрын
Haslamian Empire thanks for that, you might've just helped me get another mark. Worth it ✌🏿️ So thanks !
@OGCrick5 жыл бұрын
I would avoid using words like connotates over shows as connotates has a different meaning.
@Sukkulents_5 жыл бұрын
cake_assasin Connotes means to indirectly associate with, so could be used instead of ‘shows’ repeatedly. I would still use other words though

Correct, mr Bruff makes tons of videos about one question and ends up confusing you. Shows little examples and when he does, most of them are from the same question/paper. However Mrs Whelan only writes one example paragraph and this is very unhelpful as well.
@thefoodie13983 жыл бұрын
Mr bruff just goes on an on talking about the past and how well the students sitting exams the year before did he puts his effort in his animations he should put them in actually writing and explaing what to do

Btw IF YOU ARE IN YEAR 10 (14/15 years old) I'VE GOT A LIFE SAVING TIP FOR EXAMS!!! SPEND FOUR DAYS OF YOUR YEAR 10 LIVES MAKING REVISION CARDS FOR THINGS LIKE SCIENCE AND GEOGRAPHY AND KEEP THEM AND MAKE THEM AS NEAT AS YOU CAN BECAUSE IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO WILL LEAVE YOUR REVISION TO THE LAST MINUTE YOU WILL ONE DAY REALLY NEED THOSE REVISION CARDS AND DONT THINK MEH I WILL MAKE THEM IN YEAR 11 BECAUSE YOU PROBABLY WILL BE TOO LAZY AND HAVE NO MOTIVATION TO DO THEM IN YEAR 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPREAD THE MESSAGE XD

I wrote this paragraph for question 2 what do u think any advise? If you have the time in your presumably hectic routine Thanks. Firstly, source A and Source B present difficulties at sea with contrasting mind-sets and perspectives as in source A we are told there was a 'mutiny' and Fletcher acts in a 'alarming' and 'disrespectful' manner. This suggesting that the men on board were against 'Captain Bilge' claims despite the lavishes that he provides 'tasty surprise...jig or two...well-drenched rum cake'. Here the write present difficulties at sea in a lighter manner compared to source B who presents Life at sea as a 'violent' and 'most dangerous' thing she has ever done. This suggest that it's not 'difficult to break bone' showing the severity and ferocity of the sea and harsh condition the writer is in. Here both Source A and B present differing mind-set and attitude towards difficulties at sea. Furthermore both source A and B have different attitude at sea for example in source A it says 'found to be rife with errors'. Here suggesting there were mistake and errors in the charts of north and south Atlantic however these mistake and errors do not lead directly to death contrasted by Source B where one error can lead to a fatal and catastrophic end despite wearing a 'helmet' and the long 'agonised hours' she spent preparing as ultimately it is not 'difficult to break bones up there' suggesting that life at sea in Source B is more dangerous and violent leading and could lead to a painful death compared to errors in a chart. Both sources presenting different attitude towards difficulties at sea.

For the a "night from hell" quote would it make sense to say the weather was so bad it was seen as something so strong and powerful that it can be sent by only god or a some supernatural being .... And that the weather was so bad it was almost make belief and unrealistic
@Sukkulents_5 жыл бұрын
That’s the issue, you’re analysing the quote for a deeper meaning and representation. AO1 is about the implicit and explicit content, talking about what the weather causes and how it effects the subjects in the text. Developing interpretations of meanings and allusion is largely AO2 which is for questions 3 and 4

I know its not from this extract and i dint write it however my writing is very similar. If i wrote this how many marks would this achieve? Aberfan is a small village that ‘few people have heard of’. It is ‘tucked away’ in a Welsh valley. This suggests that it is almost hidden from view and would have been similarly forgotten in history had it not been for the tragedy. In contrast, London is described as a ‘colossal city’. It implies it is huge and filled with activity. A place that is so large that it should be safe from a natural disaster like an earthquake. Whilst both also have rivers running through them, in Aberfan it is ‘black as the Styx’ which differs from London with its ‘great river’. It is implied that in Aberfan its blackness comes from the natural seeping coal, but with London, it is ‘muddy and dull’ because of man-made waste from the many warehouses along its length.
